  1. Does the "Radio Info" menu option in SignalCheck Pro work? It's the same screen, but perhaps the app access it in a different enough way to get past the security block?

    -Mike

I'll have to re-install that app and check it out.  AJ might know that off the top of his head.

  2. No, not through any of the engineering screens.  Instead, use this dialer code:  *#*#4636#*#*.  That opens a standard Android internal APK called Testing.  Select Phone Information.  Then, scroll down and select "LTE only" as the radio mode.  Done.

Thanks, AJ.  As others have said, that doesn't work on the G2.  It must work on the Nexus 5 as I read that on their thread.  Either the G2 doesn't have an LTE only setting or we don't know how to get to it.

  3. Is there any way to force my G2 into 4G LTE, through an engineering screen,  even if I don't get voice?  I really want to see what kind of RF performance it has.

I'm not sure when Shentel will fix the fallback switches in my area so I can natively receive 4G LTE.

I readthrough this thread - I could have sworn someone forced their G2 to receive 4G LTE, but I couldn't find the answer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  4. All of that is invalid data, indicating that you do not have an active LTE connection.

Thanks Mike.  I thought that as well, but the "connected" nomenclature threw me.  Thanks again.

  5. Would someone knowledgable here be kind enough to explain my DEBUG screen to me?  I went into the LTE engineering screen and I'm confused by what i'm seeing.  I can't connect to LTE in my area with the LG G2, so this makes no sense to me.  I wanted to try and force LTE just to see what kind of RF performance this G2 has, but couldn't figure out how to do it  Maybe it still wouldn't connect because of the eCSFB Gap Issue anyway.

Here is some of the info on my LTE engineering screen:

    STATE: Connected

    SERVING CELL:  355

    BAND:  50

    UL  Channel:  65535

    DL Channel:  65535

    RSRP:  0 dBm

    RSRQ:  0 dB

    RS-SINR:  -18 dB

My phone only connects on eHRPD.  Thanks!

  6. I was so frustrated yesterday with this new Tri Band phone not working in a new equipment area that I took it into a Shentel store.  They checked the device and agreed that:  "Yes, it will not receivr 4G LTE".  But..., they had no information as to when the system would be compatible in my area.

Now, I'm stuck.  I have a Verizon phone number that I wanted to port over to Sprint, but not until I had a working Sprint phone.  Do I wait for them to get this rectified and pay two phone bills in the meantime?

I wish there would have been some kind of disclosure on this Spark deployment, as to which markets it was going to be usable in.  I would have waited to avoid all this hassle.

  7. Actually, Samsung is the worst in this scenario. Other than PR/VI, all Samsung markets have a different legacy vendor. Therefore, every Samsung LTE site accepted without 3G complete is going to be a problem. Fortunately, Samsung is now flying on 3G acceptances. And has since summer. I would guess they have known since summer, and that's why Samsung has been flying on NV equipment installs for the past 3-4 months.

Also, Ericsson has really been pushing on 3G acceptances too the past few months. And at least a lot of Ericsson NV markets have Ericsson (Nortel) legacy equipment.

Alcatel Lucent comes off very well in this problem. Since most of their markets heavily focused on 3G deployments up front. And to think the S4GRU members in ALU markets have been so upset and vocal about 3G going in first!

The only ALU markets that are a problem are the ones where Motorola is the legacy, but 3G hasn't been upgraded yet. Like the North Carolina markets.

Actually, I'm in Harrisburg PA served by Shentel which I believe is an "Alcatel Lucent" system. I can't connect to 4G LTE at all with the LG G2.

  8. Samsung markets shine once again. Way to go Samsung! Hopefully Sprint will light a fire under Ericsson and get off their lazy rears and do some 3g integrations on the 4g only sites.

Sounds like none of these new devices should have launched like this. The average consumer is just going to say Sprint sucks.. Take the phone back and be done with the service.

I started as a new Sprint customer in early October.  I got a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.  The first unit had an issue with the home button sticking under the front bezel.  You had to push the opposite side to get it to pop out again and be functional.  That GN3 was replaced by the store with another GN3 which had a bad LTE radio.  It worked, but got much slower data speeds than the unit with the bad home button.  The store let me borrow their display unit (GN3) to test against my second GN3 and it proved out the slow data speeds of my second GN3.  At this point, I decided to leave Sprint and come back when a TRI BAND device was available.  Then I found the LG G2.  I thought this was the answer to all my wants and needs.  Great data speed and great in-building penetration.  Sprint let me come back as a pre-order customer in early November.

I purchased the LG G2 specifically for TRI BAND.  I wanted the in-building penetration that the lower frequency could give me.  I was very willing to wait until the "Spark" upgrade took place in early 2014 which would add the additinal two bands to my G2.  I'm currently also a Verizon customer.  I was going to port my number over to Sprint once I was sure that I had a working phone from Sprint.  Now, I'm in the scenario that if I want to wait until Sprint fixes this tower/device incompatibility issue, I would have to pay for two phone numbers.  The G2 I have will only get 3G.  I use my device quite frequently at work where there is no WiFi and I need the data speeds that 4G provides me with.  This sucks.

With a rollout as big as Sprint Spark, one would think that they would at least have tested some devices in numerous markets to make sure all was well before this was generally released to the public.  I'm afraid once the media picks up on this, it's going to make Sprint look really bad and leave a bad taste in many consumers mouths!  This is quite the blunder!

  9. Anyone would easily say Shentel is the farthest ahead in their rollout by far hands down. That's crazy it doesn't work.

Yeah, it is crazy.  This system around me is very new.  I just don't get it?  But none-the-less a NON Tir Band phone works in my area to receive LTE on 1900 MHz!  The G2 will not.

  10. Arent all the shentel towers 100% complete? So it should be good to go? Right?

It appears as if the Shentel system will not work with the G2 - at least around the Greater Harrisburg, Hershey PA area.  I went to a Shentel store today to let them look at the phone.  No luck there either.  I've been all over Harrisburg and near the 81 corridor with no LTE connectivity whatsoever.

The Shentel system is very far along in this area as well.  Some are even boradcasting the 800 MHz frequency.  The towers near me have been 4G LTE for quite some time now.

When I had my two defective Samsung Galaxy Note 3's, I got 4G LTE in these same places no problem.

  11. As S4GRU frequently points out, the site near your house should be basically the least of your worries.  A mobile phone is for, well, mobility.  This network fallback/reselection issue affects only LTE data.  That should not be a problem at home because you should be on Wi-Fi at home.  So, even if you use your mobile phone as your home phone, voice is not affected.

    AJ

I'm really bummed!  I live and work in a place where the 4G LTE will be incompatible.  All the Shentel towers around here won't work with the G2.  No WIFi at work either!

  12. I traveled 25 miles outside of Raleigh and instantly got a strong LTE signal. I then kept that LTE signal for several hours in areas my EVO barely got signal and where I had no idea LTE even existed (super super rural areas). I traveled in and out of LTE areas for about another hour and the device performed handoffs flawlessly. I'm now getting LTE inside of a house where an iPhone 4S and a (older) blackberry have to step outside to keep a call from breaking up. I'm VERY VERY impressed.

This 100% confirms in my mind that the issue so many of us are seeing connecting to LTE is regional. I am absolutely confident that as soon as I get back to Raleigh I will go back to never seeing LTE again until Sprint fixes this. Which is disappointing, because the radio in this thing, especially on LTE is the best I have ever seen in my life, by far, but Sprint has something seriously screwed up in many parts of the country  keeping us from connecting.

That makes a lot of sense.  I'm in the same boat.  I live in the Harrisburg PA area.  A very strong 4G LTE market.  I just received my new LG G2 today and can't receive 1900 MHz 4G LTE.

Why would the NON "Tri Band" phones be able to connect to 4G LTE in the same area that the new Tri Band phones can't?

    I just don't get it?

  13. Do you guys mind doing an APN pull of your LG G2's and post them for download to see if there are any discrepancies?

I'd be glad to do that. You'll just have to give me step by step directions how to do it. I'm not as advanced as the rest of you guys on this forum. I should be back home after 11:00 pm. I'll try it then.

  14. I assume you updated your profile and are still having issues connecting to LTE?  Did you try quering for software updates?

Yes, I updated EVERYTHING. Still no LTE.

  15. It is time to bomb the Sprint forums with the LTE Connectivity issues.

Everyone who has a phone and lives in a LTE community needs to post the issue on their forums to get the ball rolling at Sprint.

I already dood it!  There's one called

my lg g2 has no 4g lte

I added a reply to that person's comment.  You really have to laugh that on Sprint Spark launch day we can't get the original 1900 MHz frequency.  Don't mind waiting until early 2014 for spark to be activated on my phone, but if I want a 3G phone, I'll go back to the one I used 5 years ago!
