  1. Not to reopen old wounds, but have there been any recent Spark updates for those waiting for the OTA update? Just curious, it's been a week and a half and still haven't had the update on either my phone or my wife's phone.

    Didn't get it yet.

  2. awesome guys, thanks I just pulled the trigger on the N5 upgrade! So now where did everyone get the Sim/uicc cards?

Thanks, sorry to hijack...went frome note 3 to N5 today haha

edit this is going to be fun, I called and asked a sprint corporate store, he said oh there's a charge for those but we don't have any in stock...lovely

edit sprintworldwide chat was awesome, guy ordered it and shipped it to me for free. awesome!

There is no charge for the SIM. Call Sprint Worldwide at 1-888-226-7212 and ask for part number 760492013536.

  3. Hi everyone,

So i was wondering if you could help.  I'm moving to Tampa in June which I understand has LTE being deployed on band 41 and 800LTE (Sprint Spark, not sure if it's active yet?)

I was super excited to get the note 3, then i found out its single 1900LTE, so I was thinking of passing?

So I can upgrade now, or I can wait if there's something coming along better

    I have a GS3 right now

The GS4 "T" version is Tri Band... If you're looking for a big screen, the HTC One Max is Tri Band as well. I've heard the GS5 is right around the corner too, but not sure about the screen size.

I also have a Note 3. It works really well around Harrisburg on 1900 MHz. I also have an LG G2 but that phone pretty much sucks... I'll resurrect it when 800 MHz LTE hits Hartisburg here shortly.

  4. Im still waiting on Spark lol. Its not fair. But since kitkat already rolled out in korea it cant be that hard to give it to us in the states

I'm waiting for Spark too. My G2 is not activated currently, since I am using my Samsung GN3.

Does anyone know if the Spark update will happen over WiFi? I intended to activate the G2 again once 800 LTE lights up here in Harrisburg.

  5. That is not the same case with the LG G2 spark update.  To me, the Spark update seems to have improved the LTE scan time to search for LTE.  The current firmware on the N5 is only programmed to scan for B25 LTE.  With the Spark update it is now programmed to search for multiple LTE bands instead of just B25. However it could be the fact that being in a Spark market that some of the spots that I didn't use to have LTE are quickly picked up by B41 LTE and I see the LTE icon more often now.

That's good to hear. I'm still waiting for the Spark update. From what I read on this Forum, 800 LTE is soon to be in Harrisburg, with band 41 forthcoming. I'll get to see how well the G2 will perform then...

  6. I've been seeing this issue on my g2. It loses LTE and never comes back without a toggle. My iPhone will lose LTE but get it back in a few minutes on it's own. This is near Chicago, too.

My G2 does this as well in the Chambers Hill area of Hartisburg PA. Even when back in a strong 4G LTE area, no matter how long I wait, the only way to regain LTE is to cycle the radio.

  7. Will it be possible one day on this phone to connect to more than 1 LTE band at the same time? Like you can connect to 1x800 and evdo. Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

I think that was an excellent question and a great idea. Just think about the new WiFi routers that allow simultaneous connections to the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands thus increasing usable bandwidth.

Wouldn't it be great to have a cell phone that could use two frequency bands simultaneously whenever needed for intensive uploads or downloads?

  8. I feel very fortunate to live in a Sprint Shentel area.  Shentel is always right on top of everything.

Band 41 will definitely be a bonus, but I am really eager for band 26.

I forgot to mention that I received a text from Sprint a few days ago saying that "the new network will be complete in about a month in my area making it better than ever".  I am paraphrasing...  The included link pointed to a site that said HD voice and Spark will soon follow in my area.

  9. In a place like Harrisburg, a fully deployed Band 26 network on Sprint should be killer. And now that Shentel has confirmed a Band 41 overlay, it should be glorious!

Forget Sprint taking over Tmo. Shentel should take over Sprint. (Yes, I know that Shentel is only so successful because they are small, but they are even well run for a small company. Swiftel is even smaller and is tragically run.)

    Right On!

  10. I had a conversation in the past few days with a Shentel/Sprint technician. This is a tech who works on the towers, not one in a store. He said LTE800 should go live very soon as all the hardware is in place and it's a simple upgrade to make it go live. LTE2500 equipment is "in" and should start going up soon but he didn't have an exact timeline. I asked him if Shentel and Sprint redid the contract since the last I knew Shentel's current agreement didn't include 2500 but he didn't have any info on that. The fact the equipment has come in, it sounds like a clue to me.

As far as some other towers that seem to be in limbo, he said there are so many reasons why that can happen. He told me about one tower in particular that the tower owner is putting up a new tower next to the old one and Shentel is waiting to replace the equipment until the new tower is built.

Seems like Shentel is doing well and keeping up the quick pace that they had during NV 1.0.

This is great news. When LTE 800 goes live, I'll have to resurrect my LG G2 and check out the in-building performance. This should beat the heck out of Verizon, since the Shentel towers around Harrisburg PA are so densely positioned.

  11. Hrmm, bouncing off of what you said in your other thread...If the N3 is dropping calls, but not when on Google Voice...Well, first off, my "sources" tell me that the N3 Drop Call Issue is only on 800 MHz.Secondly, if Google Voice resolves the issue, it might be due to HD Voice.

Could you elaborate a little bit on Google Voice? I don't use or know anything about Google Voice, but is it HD voice capable? I own a Sprint Samsung GN3, and mine works flawlessly at everything. I guess I lucked out. Is the Sprint GN3, compatible with the forthcoming Sprint HD voice?

    Thanks...

  12. I can't comment on the RF issues you were having but I feel the GPS issue could have been easily discovered and should have been resolved during your 14 day period.

Yes, the GPS was definitely my fault, but I think I said 7 days for working eCSFB in Harrisburg, but it was more like on the 11th day of ownership that I finally had 4G.  I actually noticed the GPS issue when I thought I'd be helpful and add Sensorly data for the Harrisburg area.  It added mine to Hanover PA which is at least 40 miles form here.

An update might actually fix my G2 issues.  I have read way too many other owners complaining of the exact same issues for it to be unique to mine.  Whether there is a defective batch or not...???

Luckily, using a single band device in Harrisburg is not too bad.  Shentel has this area so densely populated with their towers, that it's hard not to get a great signal everywhere on 1900 MHz.  To my knowledge, there is no 800 MHz LTE up and running here yet anyway.  Now if I travel outside this area, a Tri Band device would be great.

  13. Why haven't you tried to get LG to replace the device or even exchange your device within your first 14 days?  Having a faulty device and comparing it to another device is not an apples to apples comparison.

It actually took me longer than the 14 day period to find all the flaws.  First we had the eCSFB issue which Shentel fixed in about 7 days in Harrisburg.  I didn't even try the GPS until a month later as my car has a built-in unit.  Call quality was supposed to be fixed with the ZV8 update, it didn't fix mine.  I wasn't really sure about the poor RF issue at first until I realized there are way too many places this phone drops back to 3G.  I finally got fed up and just purchased the GN3 which works flawlessly.  Unfortunate;y for me until I realized that my G2 was indeed a lemon, time ran out on the exchange period.

I'll have to contend with LG now to get this resolved.

  14. Has anyone try to manually update their phone yet to see if the Spark update is available?

I must confess.  I tried it this morning at 7:02 EST.  It just said your device is up to date.  I'll turn it on again in a few days and see...

  15. I would reserve judgement until the Spark update arrives to see if the LG G2 signal shows some improvement.  Perhaps we can be surprised but either way I am willing to live with any shortcomings of the G2.  It has been a great device so far.

I don't have issues with LTE reception and I am glad the GN3 is working out for you.  However I can't stand a single band LTE device and I don't want the Nexus 5 for the small battery and just plain vanilla.

Unfortunately, I was one of the lucky ones. My G2 has big time GPS issues, along with a crackling earpiece speaker on some calls and poor RF performance. My only real recourse is to try and get LG to replace it under warranty.

I'm not thrilled about using a single band device, but the GN3 really shines at holding a 1900 MHz LTE signal even deep inside buildings, where the G2 would fall back to 3G.

I intend to give the G2 another chance after the spark update, so I'm staying tuned to this thread to see how the performance is after said update.

  16. Just as a note onto rf performance. When I switched to my Nexus I immediately saw a gain in signal strength. My speeds at home are close to 5 mbs faster and I barely drop to 3g when inside work now. I'm starting to think the g2 may sound good on paper but when used in real life, it might not actually be the greatest thing out there like it was supposed to be.

I agree with you. I'm using my Samsung GN3. Signal reception is stronger everywhere and reliability is much improved. The G2 was a waste of my money. I'll have to wait for the Samsung GN4 to get a Tri band device again.

  17. No battery issues with any Google services here on 2 Note 3's. But then, I rooted both Note 3's and they're Rooted with battery-saving apps like Greenify and Deep Sleep Battery Saver. :P

I'm very curious...  My battery hog "Google Services", now is listed as "Google Play Services".  Did it update and is that the exact same thing?  I no longer see "Google Services" in the list - only "Google Play Services".
