  1. i never requested from sprint that they unlock my phone, but twice now in the past month i've had a message pop up on my phone telling me it is now UICC unlocked....

I thought I remember reading that unlocking would be automatic once required conditions were met.

  2. Thanks for responding?

Where do I do that? What does it specifically do? How to reset to stock?

The dialer. However if you aren't comfortable messing with that stuff I would advise avoiding the service menu.

  3.

EVDO-B, would just be yet another technology that no one else is doing and is dying out. There was one route that EVDO-B could have been successful for Sprint. But Sprint never had an exit on their route that lined up with it.

It's been a while since I read about EVDO Rev B. Wasn't it basically carrier aggregation for EVDO?

  4. By the way, the information here about Verizon has been helpful. I've been considering Verizon for some time, though the reports of a less dense network than T-Mobile does bother me somewhat. It would be good if there were some sort of specific Verizon tower location listing online, similar to what S4GRU has for Sprint, so I could check the proximity to that where I often travel.

The nearest T-Mobile tower to where I live, is 2300 feet away, and gets around 65% signal strength, with speeds around 20-30mbps typically, though offpeak between 30-50mbps. Although, the importance for me is having at least 5mbps typically. I'm wondering if Verizon could provide that.

Stop worrying about signal percentage, throughput, site density and everything else. If it works where you need it to and you like the price you pay for the service then stick with it. So many people complain about what band they are connected to, or how many signal bars you have, or only getting 20mbps instead of 50mbps. The only important thing is, does it work where and when you need it to.

  5. Some people would say dogs are meant to be outside too. However, that is basically only good for large watchdogs kept as a security measure. Most other dogs are much better inside where they can be comfortable. It would be cruel to suggest all dogs should be kept outside for expense reasons, particularly when owners are gone to work for the day.

Of course, I could leave my television and my computer outside too without any security, but I doubt that would work out very well. Likely they'd get stolen, obviously. Though, I don't understand why the same thought isn't applied to all wireless equipment.

Dogs, your television and computer are terrible analogies. Most (almost all of them) are secured sites with locked fencing around them. Why pay for air conditioning when you don't have to? I'm sure there have been people retarded enough to try and steal equipment from sites but stupid shit happens all the time. Even if you manage to remove a base station or radio head from a site without getting caught, what are you going to do with it? What's stopping some one from breaking into the building and stealing the equipment anyway?

  6. Not sure if you read what I wrote all the way, T-mobile also usually don't have there equipment in a building either (around the towers that I have been to in my area). so this has NOTHING to to with Sprint's "NV".

I am not in a rough neighborhood at all, its far from that. IF it was a rough neighborhood all the carriers on that tower would be in a building and locked if that was the case (most likely). I mean yea there is a fence but anyone who really wants to steal something or mess with something could jump a fence lol.

I read what you wrote, I don't know anything about T-Mobile base station equipment. However I do know about Sprint, their stuff is meant to be outside. It lowers operating expenses by not having it in an air conditioned hut. The radios and everything else is cooled by ambient air.

  7. It obviously can not, or Wichita and KC wouldn't have the holes they do. Sprint might not be finished with 1900 LTE by the time 600mhz can be used. It'd be stupid to not get this extra service which would strongly bolster the network instead of being stuck 5 years later saying "gee I wish we would have bid on that spectrum when it was available." Sprint sorely needs the building penetration and propagation properties of 600mhz spectrum to make it competitive.

I never said they shouldn't participate in the auction. 600mhz spectrum won't be usable for a long time, at least four years from now assuming they can win enough for any meaningful deployment. They are still working on finishing bringing LTE to sites and are about to start on their first network expansion in a long time.

  8. Well looks like Verizon is going fast to the tower by me that I mentioned before, they got the building up and ready to go, that didnt take long!! One thing I never understood, MOST places AT&T and Verizon use buildings for shelter there equipment but Sprint and T-mobile dont unless its a big building shared with others, at least in MY area its what I have noticed. Does AT&T and Verizon have more equipment then T-mobile and Sprint that they need a building (doubt it) or is it just because they have the money to build a building? (well prefabricated). That part of carriers I dont know much about. Anyone know why this may be?

The NV base stations don't need to be inside air conditioned hut's, so why put them in one?

  9. I tried again yesterday and samething. The device is leased and the system won't allow access to that information

Just say you need to manually program the phone, they will give you the MSL along with the steps required.

  10. Is it a bug of Android (CM 12 in my case ATM) or SCP? The data LTE Discovery is showing for both 1X and LTE checks out with past data collected from my Galaxy S5 other than PCI which it didn't display.

It is correct to show only LTE or CDMA on the nexus 6, but not both at the same time. My guess would be a bug in CM, but it could also be something with signalcheck and its interpretation of data from Android. I've seen others post about that issue before, I just don't recall what page it was on.

  11. I'm wondering if I'm having the same issue as some of you with no GCI/TAC showing in SCP but do show in LTE Discovery.

This is on a Nexus 6 currently running CM12.1 (5.1.1). When running the stock ROM it would show all LTE data including PCI & Neighbor data which was nice but wouldn't go any CDMA/1X when connected to LTE.

Its a bug if its showing LTE and 1x at the same time on the nexus 6, its not a SVLTE device.

  12. I've written a lot about the 4k topic in the Sprint Plans thread, but I'll restate here that I'm not advocating the use of 4k on wireless devices, though it'll become a form of use eventually. Already there are reports that the Samsung Note 5 may use a 4k screen, which if so, we'll be seeing 4k on smartphone displays this September, beginning with the Samsung Note 5, unless another 4k display model beats it to the market first.

I don't see it being common. Look at HTC and Apple, both opted for a 1080p display on their flagship phones instead of bumping it up. Both displays look amazing, higher resolution isn't necessarily better. Think of all that extra GPU power required to power that display, and the larger battery needed to accommodate the higher power requirements.

For some of the high power users, what are you doing to use that much mobile data? I'm not trying to call anyone out, but I just want to understand how you are using that much data in a manner that does not violate the terms of service. I still don't see it being possible to average that much data use unless you don't have a home ISP or travel for work (business, trucking etc).

  13. I just don't see using 40, 50, 60+GB in one month unless you don't have a home ISP or are on the road 24/7. That is a lot of data, even for streaming video. I'm surprised you keep bringing up streaming 4k. What phone screen supports that resolution? The highest that comes to mind is 2560x1440p which is far from UHD/4k's 3820x2160/4096 x 2160. Where can you sit for hours on end each day streaming that much video where WiFi isn't available? How does your battery in your handset even last that long?

  14. This hiccup is really starting to annoy me! I have no idea why LTE Discovery is showing the information, and SignalCheck is not.. the routines to gather this information are part of the base Android framework on Android 4.2+, and I don't use any crazy tricks to display them unless you're using an older HTC. I do see you're showing that bogus "<!>" indicator that I mentioned in my last post; that's a remnant of beta testing that I need to get out ASAP, and could be the reason you are not able to edit the site note. But the missing GCI/PCI/TAC information is a separate issue that I am completely lost on. I'm going to reach out to Spence and Danial and see if they have something up their sleeve that they might be able to share.

    -Mike

I always assumed the phone didn't show the information because it's Verizon. I don't know why toggling the network mode to LTE/GSM/UMTS and back to Global made the band/gci/pci/tac show in the main app screen when it normally does not. It stays like that until the phone is restarted. Is there anything I can log from the phone that might help you figure it out?

  15. Loving the new Android M developer preview. I flashed my Nexus 5 and my battery life has went up dramatically. Before I had some sort of Google play services bug that made it so I had to charge twice a day to this:

What settings are you using? I did standard install with everything defaulted on (location, google now etc) and I'm having abysmal battery life. The only other apps I downloaded besides the gapp updates were signal check pro, Tapatalk and inbox. This is 56 minutes screen on time.

The only way I ever got any decent battery life on 5.x was by disabling location, google location service, google now, OK google from any screen and android device manager while using xposed and greenify to keep all my apps from causing wake locks.

  16. No problem with contacts here everything is working just like it was on lollipop.

I got it working by deleting and re signing into my google account. It must have been an error when initially trying to sync but it works fine now.

  17. Would you say it's stable for everyday use? Also, notice any benefits of doze yet?

My contacts don't work on M, not sure if others are having the same problem. I can still use Google now to call or create new texts by OK google call/text name, but its a little annoying not having contacts listed.
  18. I think Sprint was smart to modify its tos on new plans to include video streaming may be limited to 1mbps when they did. If streaming UHD content becomes the norm on phones, I can see other carriers following in Sprint's footsteps. What I would like to see is the ability to cache video for offline use similar to how Spotify allows it with music. It's already available for Google Play, getting Netflix and others onboard could go a long way toward solving the problem.
