  1. I actually had 4G for about 3 minutes while I was at the PDQ near 1 St street here in Madison. My phone started vibrating on and off while I was on Williamson St and while I was on east wash. Of course I'm now back to 1xRTT. I think Sprint is just taunting me now.

I've been 3G, then 1x, then eHRPD, then back again all day downtown. Still 3G in Fitchburg too. No eHRPD here. (after power cycles, etc.)

  2. Madison actually has a tower with an actual acceptance!  The first time since August.  Too bad its a 3G acceptance which essentially means that the equipment is in place but there is no backhaul for LTE (I believe).  I was pretty sure that Sprint forgot about us.

Good to see all my pictures from the In Progress thread make it up there. It looks a lot better now with more pins in the map.

  3. these antennae are impossible to get a picture of based on how they are mounted...here is the best i could do with my terrible zoomed in camera on my phone...

I'm not positive, but IMO that does look like NV equipement...

That is a typical arrangement of a NV setup.  It could be that the RRUs are mounted low on the antenna and we wouldn't be able to see them.  The best way to tell is to A) see the RRUs or B) count the wires going into the antenna or C) getting up on that roof! Considering all three are not possible to do, might just have to hope its done.  Can someone get to that area with a better camera? perhaps a point and shoot with zoom? I won't be able to get over that way for a while.  This is at least encouraging news though.

Aarofloyd, since you're a sponsor and can lookup the addresses, could you get to the tower that's south of there off Badger Rd?  Perhaps the one in Monona on the water tower?

The one at 30/90/94 Badger interchange could use a photo as well, I'm pretty sure that's upgraded though.

  4. What's the situation by UW hospitals? Close to zero signal

If you step into a building!

    UW Madison Hospital?

Yup its bad over there. Good news is that yesterday by Camp Randall, my Signalcheck chimed at me many times for LTE and 800SMR but nothing locked for more than 3-4 seconds. Testing?? Hopefully.

That area will be a true test of 800 MHz as there aren't many towers surrounding that complex for UW hospital (or any UW building) and there's some topology working against it. We'll see soon, hopefully.

  5. Yeah that was an unfortunate casualty with my redesign, can't quite decide how I want to add them back in, The hover comments I used the first time didn't work with IE8 that I was updating it in, and the entire thing was glitching so bad I went with the simplest UI while keeping the info.

I'll figure out how to add some sort of glossary back in again that fits the design.

    IE8?!? LOL!

The new sheet is great. Just add either another tab for glossary, or just add some lines at bottom. You don't have to have a Jony Ive approved sheet.

  6. Great find!  now the question is....just because a tower had a permit cleared in May, does that mean the work has been done since then?!  Makes me really want to go to the one closest to my house and see if the number of antennae matches the permit!

Well, it just means that the permit is approved. The length of time on when the work must be complete and inspected can vary.  Some are within 6 months, some within 2 months, etc. Hard to say.  The one closest to your house may have lots of antennas on it from many carriers.  What you should look for is.....are the RRUs like these: http://goo.gl/aWWY1s If they're up there, then your tower is closer than not. You should go to your tower and take pictures, which one is yours?

  7. Just double checked the permit reports for Madison, WI for September additions and the rest of the towers are now accounted for, including Hilldale, High Point Rd, Monona area and the aforementioned Badger Interchange, etc.  Therefore ALL towers in the Madison area (by my accounts) now have approved permits (many of these have NV equipment on them). http://www.cityofmadison.com/dpced/BI/permitreports/

choose all construction permits, september, 2013....then search the resulting PDF for "sprint"  Really wish all communities had these so readily available.  most of the others are in August, July, May and April.

  8. If you get a chance, can you take a look at the lower rack of the tower by the beltline at Fish Hatchery? I haven't been able to get pictures, but the lowest rack looks like it might have the grey RRU boxes on them. I'll try to take pictures next time I go by.

Yeah, I drive by that one every day.  There has been zero work on that tower.  No new cabinets, no new equipment, no backhaul that I can see. There is a fiber line not too far away though, so perhaps it's already run into there. That tower does have some weird boxes of some sort up on the lowest rack.  I haven't seen them in any other locations (for any provider) so perhaps they're for the county, police or something along those lines. I believe that when Sprint antennas do go up there, they will go to the middle rack.

However, as I have witnessed with other towers, that could all change in like 3 days.  The tower on Hwy M in Fitchburg had nothing as of early last week, but by Sunday, there were RRUs up there.

  9.

can someone answer this for me I have been looking at the senorly maps lately and i notice that in the inner city where we do not have lte we have wi-max coverage and it is has been increasing for the last 10 months is this the build up to the 2500-2600 lte roll out that everyone is waiting for but it has not been switched over yet and will they turn on 2500-2600 lte before they turn on 1900 or 800 lte?

Not likely. There is other equipment that must be added for the 2500-2600 that's not the same as WiMax equipment. I imagine you'll see 800/1900LTE long before 2600. Just my opinion though.

  10. They must be waiting on two towers to adequately serve the Camp Randall area. #1, Hilldale tower, no equipment yet and #2, West Washington Ave. The one on Old University which is very close to the Camp is ready, as is the one on State St. Man there aren't many Madison towers left without equipment on them.

  11. Alright. I think I've clarified things today with better pictures.

Here's that Top Rack - not Sprint, look at antenna wire arrangement

    Here's the whole tower

Here's where I believe NV will appear when they're ready (bottom rack), right there in the middle of the skinny ones. As I got real close to the tower, it's clear this is what's going on based on other towers I've stalked.

For the whole tower, top to bottom, I'd guess AT&T, VZW or USCC, T Mobile, then Sprint?

  12. That's a verizon setup.

ATT's typical setups look like this

Is that second rack VZW? Third down is ATT? (pic from when they were working. Their truck had a Samsung rru antenna setup sitting in the back. That's why I thought it was Sprint for sure.)

There's a 4th rack that has like 2 pencil thin antennas on it that don't match anything I've seen.

  13. Ericsson RRUS11.

Huh. How about that. There are 5 of them actually, it looks like. I'll go over to that thread to do some learnin.

Edit: are there other markets like this? Is this really an ATT rack? Strange. I'll get some closer pics tomorrow when the light is better and I have my DSLR. I want to see the bottoms of the antennas and the plugs.

  14. Do you guys know what these are (marked by Red arrows)? There were guys working on my tower, then they left 3 days ago. This is what they added (3 total of them). I haven't seen this in other threads. I'm 99% sure that's where Sprint's equipment is located. This is in Madison, WI so a Samsung market.

  15. correction, that one off Sigglekow may in fact be done. i just texted him about that tower and he said he had 5 bars and full 4g for a short time last night off the SE corner of the golf course, so it must be upgraded and in testing! Having been to his place many times, the fact there is any reception whatsoever there means they they are getting close. I usually cant even pull roaming signals there! The Madison area is flying right now!

Please get a picture of the antennas somehow. That's the only way we'll know if it's possible to get that signal. If I remember right, that tower isn't very high or very dense and is easily accessible, so it'll be easy to photograph.

Like Robert has said, he doesn't have good internal sources in Wisconsin for updates on towers in progress, so it's up to us to get the evidence.

  16. Here's the tower near hwy 51 and hwy 30 on the dirty Eastside of Madison.  There are a LOT of other antennae on this tower....a LOT.  This is the bottom rack.  You know most Sprint panels are on the bottom racks or lower on water towers....cheap skates. The one by me is the top rack at least. Anyways, NV work here too, it looks like to me.  The other racks are clearly not Sprint stuffs.

If you guys are in Madison and are Sponsors, please try to take a few pictures of some of these other towers. Message me if you want to divide and conquer some picture taking. I haven't been able to get to the tower on the Northside of the lake or out near Waunakee on 113, so if you travel that way, please let me know.  Also, perhaps someone that traverses the Beltline could check out the tower off South Towne behind Super Walmart?  The one more north in McFarland off Siggelkow by Curling Club?  Then downtown ones on rooftops, I haven't had the time to get to them.
