  1. I work on Grant Street in Downtown and today I noticed occasional LTE (two bars) on my iPhone 5S. Speeds were only 1.1 Mbps up and 0.3 Mbps but at least it is something. First time I have seen LTE Downtown.  Hopefully this means full blown LTE for Downtown sometime soon. ‎

You may have been seeing band 26 LTE (800), which can go 60% future than regular 1900 LTE and has better building penetration.  Get this screen shot and post it.  If all the characters don't show for cell identity, change your font size so they do.

*iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c(theoretically possible) can use the following screen (credit mosoccer):post-25488-0-55710000-1392471349_thumb.p

The GCI can be obtained through hexadecimal conversion of cell identify

  2. I have to say I am a bit disappointed. Son went very aggressive with his pricing in Japan and I was hoping for the same thing here. Even if you don't want to compete directly on price then at least compete on value. Many folks here have advocated bundling a couple of gigs of hot spot data. Seems like Son is giving mixed signals right now.

He identified eliminating the network excuse as one of his priorities which is good.  I am not certain about putting the Clearwire guy in charge of the network given they are almost a month behind the latest plan for Clearwire updates for b41 in Columbus.  NV 2.0 B41 may beat Clearwire B41 in many parts of town.

I think they need to get more people with triband phones is the key, plus far better marketing in a few months.

This is an alternate path to try to get a t-mobile merger, which is not as bad as it sounds once Advanced LTE becomes the norm.  Sprint already used the 50 state argument. Economies of scale argument would make sense with advanced LTE (ie no 3G).

  3. 203 NID = NV upgraded.

As far as goofy SID/NID pairs, they match up to other markets, such as Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincy, Lima, etc. We have them tracked because we have info they are being upgraded/maintained by the crews for the Columbus market. IMHO, I don't think we should be including these fringe sites in the Columbus market spreadsheet, as their SIDs & NIDs are not consistent with the Columbus market.

From a switch perspective, almost all of our sites at the edge of the market in any direction use the nationwide miscellaneous switch.  We have a few near i-71 in the north that use Cleveland.  All of these sites do start with 086 (our market identifier) if and when they go LTE.  The only tough parts are the three locations that have not started network vision yet located outside of Columbus (untouched clusters). 4. I think it has to do with switching and routing and moreso probably roaming. Maybe theres an intermediary switch that picks up those sites?

Along the roaming thought if you have a prepay service and live in Columbus and Sprint wants to limit you to home area only, how would they do that? PRL. Good answer. So you would be limited to NID 214, anything else is roaming. Furthermore they could limit prepay to PCS only by removing 22442 (800) from the PRL and make prepay only use PCS while allowing Sprint customers to use PCS and 800.

Thats what i would do thinking down the road if i was programming this big cluster.

The switch changes just west of Zanesville, south of circleville, east of bellfountaine, south of bucyrus

  5. This message is intended for the Sprint West Virgina market, which covers part of the Ohio river valley in WV and Ohio.  I know ntelos is different (used to be one of their customers) and was directed here by an active participant of this thread.

As a former West Virginian, I want you to be aware that band 26 LTE has very likely arrived in your market!!!

For those unfamiliar, Band 26 LTE (800) can go 60% further than traditional band 25 LTE (1900) or penetrate brick buildings.

It can be found on the banks of the little brother of the great river inside WV. Map for premier members: http://s4gru.com/ind...ted-discussion/

To find it you need a triband phone (like a LG G2 or Samsung S4 Mini), or an Apple iPhone 5s or 5c.

How to tell in detail (in theory) if you have found band 26 (premier): http://s4gru.com/ind...-11?do=findComment&comment=282742

Please post and Signal Check and engineering screens of band 26 LTE findings.

  6.

Hello fellow alumni and former neighbors, band 26 LTE has arrived in your market!!!

For those unfamiliar, Band 26 LTE (800) can go 60% further than traditional band 25 LTE (1900) or penetrate brick buildings.

Go many miles northwest of downtown.  Map for premier members: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/5107-lte-800-band-26-sites-accepted-discussion/  1x800SMR is popping up all over the Pittsburgh Market, so band 26 LTE may soon cover a much larger portion.

  7. Having grown up in SW Ohio and then going to tOSU, and thus making the trip from Columbus to south of Dayton hundreds of times, I can say that this has been the case since at least 2008 or 2009 (one of those years is when I started Pandora through my phone as my radio on those drives).  Exits like, 72 to 62 on I-70 especially are terrible.  So perhaps things aren't done totally, as that's been status quo for years on end, but y'all would know more than me.

For what it's worth, that dead spot doesn't bother me.  It may be an interstate but there's not many people out there, and you're through in 15 (or, uh, 6) minutes.  The "dead spot" (in that data is basically unusable) at Hilltop in what's almost downtown Columbus is what just kills me.

If the location is within a couple of miles of 1900 LTE (band 25, ie traditional LTE), band 26 LTE (think long distance or brick building penetration) should fill it in.  Limited rollout so far of band 26 LTE, but Sprint covered one large metro area literally overnight (166 sites) and then has several rural small town areas.  If everything goes to plan, Columbus will also have an awesome band 41 network (think high speed LTE in a smaller area).  A true Spark city!!

All of that stated, I do agree that there are areas that they should add towers.  The big action in Columbus right now appears to be lighting up entire areas at once (clusters), so we just have to wait and see what is next (actually, we go out and check on progress, but that is the sponsor side of the story).

  8. Broad and reynoldsburg new Albany road has issues with receiving calls on all phones on my account.. Lte showed up for a second but disappeared

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You could have seen the startup of a new LTE tower.  Next time get the Field test < Serving Cell Info screen using a font that fully displays the Cell Identity and post a screen shot here.  We can tell you if it is a new site.

Columbus is not launched yet.  We all are impatient at times, but Sprint has launched a large number of new sites LTE recently and work continues on many more.  Several more months before it is mostly complete (laggards take longer - permit issues, ISP backhaul delays, etc).

  9. First, I want to thank twospirits (aka Dave) for putting this together and sharing it with me, and now I will use this awesome table he built and keep adding devices to it.

    Sprint Devices list....

It would be nice if you added GCI support to the list.  Apple can be included with a note about hexadecimal conversion.  GCI is very handy at identifying specific towers.  It might also encourage Samsung and others to add it.

  10. When is LTE going to be in the downtown area? I see all this LTE out of Columbus none what so ever in the heart of downtown.

There is plenty of LTE downtown, you just need a triband phone with our techniques. ;)   Eventually Columbus will be launched and it will be open to all.  :tu:

The progress detail is in the sponsor spreadsheet on the first page of the sponsor forum.  Happy hunting!!

  11. Sprint Launched Ohio markets as of Friday (it's buried in a list of launched LTE markets http://newsroom.spri...chedmarkets.htm )

    • Ashland, Ohio
    • Ashtabula, Ohio
    • Canton/Massillon, Ohio
    • Dayton, Ohio

    • Findlay, Ohio

    • Greenville, Ohio

    • Mansfield, Ohio
    • Marion, Ohio
    • New Philadelphia/Dover, Ohio
    • Parkersburg, W.Va.
    • Point Pleasant, W.Va.
    • Salem, Ohio
    • Sandusky, Ohio
    • Tiffin, Ohio
    • Wooster, Ohio

Dayton is not spark because it did not have wimax service.

Looking carefully at the coverage map, Sprint also launched in the Columbus Market:
    - Keyton
    - Upper Sandusky
    - Bucyrus
    - Gallion
    - Worthington (not the Columbus suburb)
    - Bowling Green

We had all the areas in the Columbus Market fully covered on our sponsor maps

  12. After I made the post I thought those stats were probably not being kept up..  The WV stats ( that are part of Sprint NV -  NOT Shentel... and includes Marietta Ohio - which is right across the river from WV ) is probably around 90% LTE complete.  That area is where my folks live so I've watched it closely. I wasn't aware that nTelos was doing a network upgrade in conjunction with Sprint ( like Shentel was for LTE ).. Shentel's upgrade was done as part of NV .., and uses the same equipment Sprint used. ( http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-20-sprint-regional-affiliate-shentel-releases-some-more-network-vision-info-in-conference-call-with-investors/ )

I think there was/is rumbling that Sprint may buy Shentel at some point and the equipment wouldn't need to be changed, but the affiliate agreement between the two doesnt expire till 2024 - with provisions made for two 10 year contracts extensions..

Also the areas that are Shentel LTE in WV ( not alot ) are offically done as well. (  Shentel invested over $100 million in 2012 and 2013 building the largest and most advanced 4G LTE and enhanced 3G network in communities stretching along the I-81 corridor from Harrisonburg, VA, through Winchester, VA; Martinsburg, WV; Hagerstown, MD; and Chambersburg, to Harrisburg, PA and east to Hanover and York, and west along the turnpike to Breezewood, and north to Altoona, PA. )

I'm pretty sure that alot of West Virginia is neither Shentel or Sprint.  So Sprints LTE coverage in West Virginia is not ideal.  I don't know if Sprint has cross agreements with anyone else besides nTelos - for roaming.. I don't think we can count on nTelos bringing much to Sprint though.

It appears Sprint may not be renewing any roaming agreements with nTelos: Feb 2014: "NTELOS sinks after firm predicts Sprint deal won't be renewed NTELOS (NTLS), a regional wireless retailer, is tumbling after research firm FBR predicted that the company's partnership with Sprint (S) would not be renewed when the deal expires in 2015. FBR, which noted that NTELOS obtains the majority of its profits from its partnership with the carrier through the Sprint Strategic Network Alliance"

My brother lives around there - in an ntelos area and  has an nTelos contract.  From what I understand, for him this would mean when he leaves the nTelos area he wouldn't be roaming on Sprint (or anyone - unless another agreement is made )

Maybe Coz or someone else knows more..

  13. Columbus Market:

Status:  Partial LTE Launch/NV Upgrades Continuing

    47% NV accepted & 28% LTE accepted

    West Virginia Market:

    Status:  LTE Launched/NV Substantially Complete

    97% NV accepted & 50% LTE accepted.

Mark Twain: "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics".

Your Columbus Market stats may be out of date,  I come up with 67.25% of our sites are new vision.  Now that does not mean that the sites that will be 4g are up to that level yet.  Almost half of the remaining sites are in process.  Our worst winter in 20 years is also slowing things down.

The other factor is West Virginia is not really a complete market because of Ntelos.
