  1. I have the Ipad2 (purchased when Sprint did not have one). I essentially choose to do the wifi and add hotspot onto my data plan. Has worked well. Only complaint would be the 2GB of sprint. It is surprising how fast one eats through it.

I went with the 16GB capacity. I have movies and games. pretty much it. I use it to keep myself preoccupied when I am traveling for work. I fly Southwest, so the $5 for internet works out really well.

  2. Having funding from softbank has nothing to do with extending debt maturities nor rolling debt.

The only thing that it helps with is the cost to extend debt maturities (not like they couldn't do it before).

The biggest helper is the low interest rate environment.

I lower interest rate market only influences companies to re-issue new debt at the lower interest rate to cover older debt at the higher rate. This is not the case. Sprint completely wiped the debt out; therefore, making its ratios for the YE look better (i.e., acid test, debt to equity, and current ratio).

Edit: I stand corrected. This is such the case. See sprint's release.

  3. I saw an Ericsson tech at a site about 5 miles from my house in Cuyamungue. I've never seen a logo'd Ericsson truck before outside of ABQ. So I stopped to talk to the guy. He said he was there on an RF ticket.

I told him who I was, that I run a blog called S4GRU.com. Of course, he had never heard of us. I invited him to check out the site.

I asked him about Network Vision and the ABQ market schedule. He says that he has heard that Ericsson will start mobilizing in the ABQ market in November, but it may be awhile off still until deployment starts. He said he had no idea about details, or any info beyond that.

This may be further corroboration that Sprint may be making a move on 3rd and 4th rounds all at once now that all the design is complete. Starting earlier, but deploying slower and getting done at the same time. This may also be why all the eHRPD sightings.

Big money! Big money! No whammies! Stop!!!

Awesome news! Also, how do you keep getting this new devices. I need to have some kids so I can start this rotation like you. :)

  4. Dial *3001#12345#* and it will take you into Field Test Mode. I am not sure how to tell if connected to eHRPD in there but that is what you are looking for :)

I just did this on a i5 and it does not display eHRPD. I got to see 1xCDMA and 1x. Neither of these sub-menus showed eHRPD. I am in the ABQ market. Perhaps eHRPD was turned off now?

Yup. The cursor on the map screen shot is right on my home in El Valle de Arroyo Seco, New Mexico. I'm not sure what to think of it at the moment. Maybe the ABQ market is moving up to be an early 3rd Rounder? It may mean nothing at all. I'm not certain at this point.

I want to like more than once. I don't care when it happens. Great speeds!

  6. Okay, here are almost all of the screens available on the iPhone 5's Field Test function. All of these were taken at one time just at the foot of the Trophy Club, TX water tower, right behind Sabre HQ off of TX-114.

IMO, this is a strange location for a tower, as Sprint also has a 300 ft tower less than 2000 ft away. My assumption is that this one is designed to serve Westlake's Solana complex just across 114 -- but I can say that I can't get LTE over there.

I ran SpeedTest, RootMetrics and Sensorly -- quite a variation, but all were fast:

    Test Date: Sep 24, 2012 1:58 PM

    Connection Type: Cellular

    Server: Fort Worth, TX

    Download: 8.31 Mbps

    Upload: 8.91 Mbps

    Ping: 177 ms

    External IP: 66.87.97.6

    Internal IP: 30.120.181.6

    Latitude: 32.9863

    Longitude: -97.1672

It's hard to believe that performing one speed test on Sensorly used 45 MB of data.

  7. We most likely will get CDMA 800 (1x) with our initial deployment. It's possible that we may be late enough in the NV deployment to get LTE 800 also. But that's a stretch.

I get good Sprint coverage between ABQ/Santa Fe and Espanola/Los Alamos (where I spend 75% of my time), especially since moving to the GS3, which is a solid radio performer. However, 800 will really be appreciated at the times I spend on I-40, where site spacing exceeds 1900.

I have not been south of Los Lunas on Sprint before. But I hear it can be patchy heading to Cruces. In fact, I'm just about to head out to ABQ for the day now.

I love how you look on the bright side of things and say that NM will be late enough in NV deployment to get 800 LTE. Thanks for reminding of the very patient wait I will be doing.

  8. "Sprint should be careful if they don't want to end up with mad customers that feel betrayed and end up leaving. With T-Mobile's network modernization plan they might end up becoming the new Sprint with Sprint moving into more of an AT&T level position."

It seems to me that you are focused on the short term. Hesse is looking at what Sprint will be in 2014/2015 with a fully functioning network and potentially the first nationwide network of LTE-Advanced. Sprint, once the dust settles, will be the LTE leader by far.

  9. I know this might be frustrating, but I look at it on the bright side. Hesse is looking at the progress and the potential of what the three different platforms of LTE (800, 1900 and 2600) and what Sprint will be when the convergence of all three is complete. Finally, it will be a network a customer will want to be on. Lets be honest, we all like it when an underdog takes over the Goliants.
