  1. No doubt Sprint has the potential. They have the best spectrum position out of any carrier. The billion dollar question is - can sprint execute? They are finally moving at a pretty good clip, if they can accelerate their plans and really move faster on getting voice/LTE on ESMR and then backfill with capacity using EBS/BRS in areas that see heavy traffic, they would be unstoppable. Nobody could compete.
  2. no, touchstone stays in place. Overall, it's cool, but I think there are better value QI chargers on the market. It's definitely better than the original nexus wireless charger.
  3. What was kind of cool about the touchtone charger is that the phone sort of gravitated to the charging zone. While sure, the magnet holds the phone in place (with or without a case) it doesn't really serve any purpose.
  4. I just got mine in the mail today. It's very nicely built but the charging area doesn't seem all that wide. I would recommend sticking with less expensive products elsewhere. A+ for build quality and design but really the magnet isn't strong enough to center it like the touchtone. The idea of having a charger like the touchtone was appealing to me, but sadly this is not it. Pros: Nice grippy/sticky surface on the bottom that has made it stick to my desk without sticking Nice small design, easy to pick phone up off charger Good build quality/materials - very minimalist. Works with my slim case without issue. Cons: Narrow charging zone. Magnet is not as strong as I would have liked. Magnet does not guide the phone into place at all. Expensive.
  5. Mine is YMMV. I've called voicemail twice in a row to see it drop down from LTE to 1x on channel 650 (1900) and 1 second later, call back and be on 1x channel 476 (ESMR 800). I have no idea how many towers have 1x on channel 476 up but it is huge. I hope sprint gets 1x on ESMR ASAP.
  6. Anyone figure out how to modify the PRL yet?
  7. I think it has to do with the fact that the network is just very loaded, which impacts latency. When VZW first launched LTE, I remember latency consistent and low.
  8. Get the G2 or Nexus 5 if you are looking for good LTE signal. If you are barely getting LTE now, the G2/N5 will get you solidly covered.
  9. I remember hearing about what a fiasco sprint HD voice was turning into At first, didn't they say it would only work if you happened to call another sprint subscriber on the same vendor (AL/Ericsson/Samsung)? After being spoiled on T-Mobile's voice network, Sprint really sounds crummy. Plus, the new eCSFB seems to silence the line so I keep thinking the call drops when talking to someone.
  10. Has anyone figured out how to modify the PRL yet?
  11. The LTE coverage is just phenomenal compared to the One/EVO 4G LTE/LGOG,GS4, etc. No Sprint phone has been able to hold LTE in my home (new lowE glass windows + old school solid brick construction + old thick horsehair plaster walls) except the new Nexus 5. The connection is solid.
  12. 1x is solid. I can do some more comparisons on 1x later (im on channel 650 in my market).
  13. LTE doesn't go idle, it completely disconnects/shuts down. It's amazing that it correctly displays LTE bars and then correctly displays voice bars.
  14. This nexus 5 is very interesting. My 1x in engineering (or engernering) shows no connection until there is a call. I tried calling voice mail and it would toggle between choosing PCS or ESMR band to connect the call. When the call would end, the 1x connection would drop. All calls come/go just fine - has qualcomm figured out how to completely kill the 1x radio unless there is an active call? If so, that is impressive! How does it select which band to use when making a call? I was in the same exact spot at 7AM in the morning (low traffic) and one call it would pick PCS, the next call ESMR... What's also interesting is when I make the call, the LTE icon goes away, flashes R for a second, and then just displays bars (no 3G, no nothing, just voice bars). When I hang up, it goes blank, then goes back on LTE. It appears the game has changed. I am LOVING this phone. I still can't get over how great this phone is at holding LTE. It's unreal. EVERYONE on s4gru should have this phone for how great the radio is.
  15. Ah, gotcha. Just a heads up on the hotspot feature - it's just a function of T-Mobile snooping your web browser user agent - you can just use an add-on to switch it to something else that doesn't flag t-mobile's system. What's interesting is that on Sprint, the built-in hotspot feature doesn't seem to work at all. Not sure how they did that.
  16. Did you ever update to 4.3? That was a big battery life improvement for me. I used the hybrid AWS LTE radio on 4.3. Trying different bands will only help if you happen to be around one of the few places that has band 41 up and running.
  17. Yeah, sprint customer care isn't going to help. I had a similar issue at first but quickly got it resolved once I got a few sucessful "update profiles" and a few reboots.
  18. I can't get over how great this phone is in terms of LTE reception and performance. It's just insane. I would say -20dBm improvement in LTE signal... which sounds too good to be true...
  19. Interesting. Can you activate your old phone and reactivate the nexus 5? That's what I would try next, try to update profile after that.
  20. What happens when you update profile on LTE only mode? Did you verify your ICCID? Have you tried another SIM? For the record, I mean UICC when I say "SIM" (looks at AJ).
  21. What happens when you go to *#*#4636#*#* and select LTE only?
  22. Have you tried cleaning your SIM card with an eraser (the contacts)? Have you tried updating profile over wifi? Is your Network Mode on LTE?
  23. I'm in Boston - no more issues. Everything works fine. There was only one issue, which was 32GB black nexus 5's not having their MEID loaded into sprint, which sprint promptly fixed. Do two things - 1) Make sure that the ICCID on your SIM matches the ICCID listed under www.sprint.com/activate (start to activate a new phone and it will list the MEID and ICCID - make sure those match your phone). 2) Update profile (Settings, Wireless & networks More..., Mobile networks, Carrier settings, Update Profile) Anyone that is having LTE issues needs to make sure the proper MEID and ICCIDs are registered on Sprints end by checking what sprint has registered on their sprint account under "activate new phone" and needs to update their profile once they have confirmed the MEID and ICCID are correct.
