  1. I'm modified as much as I can be without s-off and xposed already...and I haven't had the poor battery/overheating issues that the general user base have been experiencing so I've been putting off using the rru. I wanted a n6 until I saw the size, m9 is just about the right size for me where as the n6 is too damn big for a phone IMO.

Haha yeah I figured I would adapt to the size. I'm much more accustomed to it now than I was when I first took it out of the box. But I didn't know how bad the front facing camera was, that it's exponentially worse than my previous M8. So I expect the ultrapixel camera to be a major upgrade over this.

Also I saw and held the Gunmetal M9 at the store the other day, and while the Nexus 6 is a nicely built phone, the metal body of the M9 is just unparalleled in my opinion, along the smaller size felt much better in hand compared to this N6

  2. Have you read the whole thread? Plus I don't think there are many of us in here so far.....it's by far the best device out so far IMO. Sure there are better innovative ones (s6 edge), but total package wise this phone is the only one worth upgrading to right now IMO. I was set to pick up a new n5 and a couple extra batteries until I found my m9, and I don't regret snagging it.

Yes I've read it. A new software update came out roughly 5 days ago, and I'm still waiting to see what improvements were included and what changes users are seeing. If you have the new update and would care to share that would be awesome. I upgraded to a Nexus 6 last week, and I'm rapidly approaching the end of my 14 day period for me to decide whether I want to get the M9 instead or keep this.

Any feedback would be cool. Honestly my biggest factor for wanting to switch is the Front facing Ultra Pixel camera on the M9. The Front cam on the Nexus 6 is garbage and my Snapchat game is being heavily affected  :pinch:

  3. Really looking forward to seeing people's experience with this phone. I wanted to get the M9 but I'm really concerned with the Snapdragon 810 and I've been heavily considering getting the Nexus 6 instead.

  4. Just ordered by gunmetal gray from Sprint (thru HTC's web site, which re-directed me to sprint.com).  Unfortunately, the usual mail-in rebate crap for $50, but will eventually be $199.99 as contract upgrade.

    *tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock . . . *

Mine was $199.99 from the get go. YAY business plans!!

Best of luck to you brave souls! I can't wait to hear of your experiences.

My line is eligible for annual upgrade through Easy Pay on April 1st, so depending on what I see and here between now and then, I could either make a decision or keep waiting.

Also, should this thread still be called the "M9 Rumor Thread" if the phone is announced? Not really a rumor at this point anymore. Bring on the HTC One M9 User Thread!  :tu:

  5. This may end up being the first htc device I don't get on release day, I may just wait it out a week or two to see how it goes.

I am on the exact same boat. I want to see how the SoC and Camera situation pans out over a couple more software updates.

  6. It's not like it's one review or one outlet giving the display a bad rating...so it's kind of hard to just downplay it. This is from Anandtech:

Again, I know they have said it is a regression from the M8. What I'm saying is that the display is still great and near the top in the smartphone realm despite the fact that it went backwards and is far from being a bad display. The display itself is getting a "bad rating" because the display is a step backwards from the M8, not because the display itself is bad.

It's akin to many people thinking the M9's design is bland because it's so similar to the M8, but that does not change the fact that it is still one the best designed phones around. They just speak about it negatively because they didn't change it as much as people hoped.

I'm sure the M9 is still a fantastic device and everything comes down to your perception of what people are saying about it.

  7. What reviews have you read? MOST of them mention issues of some kind with the display.

Straight from Engadget's review, right at the top under pros and cons:

    • Screen isn't as vivid as last year's model

    http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/22/htc-one-m9-review/

I'm not ruling this phone out myself, but it's hard not to see the issues when most all of the reviews list those 2 items as the main issues.

While they say that the display may be a slight downgrade from the M8's screen, it is far from being an "issue". It's still one of the best displays out there, still looks great, and still got a 10/10 rating on the Verge review.

  8. I definitely don't debate the Touchwiz vs Sense UI. HTC has done a great job in making Sense a very fluid UI. Matching Google's own launcher in fluidity. I think Sense being mostly light weight and running at a higher frame rate definitely serves the M series well.

Touchwiz on the other hand has mostly been very heavy handed and bogs down, but as of late (Note 4 and S5) they have made it quite a bit more consistent.

At the end of the day, I think Samsung did a great job with the design of the GS6 and for me personally, touchwiz is not my preference by far, but as long as the modding community is in full force (its a popular device, so it always is) I might bite.

I'm not really in the modding scene for android but I thought it was considered that Snapdragon SoCs is what you wanted to have in your phone in terms of modding, and that Samsung's Exynos chips were far from friendly in that regard. Not exactly sure how the modding community varies between Snapdragon and Exynos versions of like the Note 4 for example.

  9. Mmmmmmm... So I need to hold it but the galaxy s6 is the phone to beat right now. Discs the camera dual 1.9 aperture front SNF back plus ois slick design. Mmmm its kinda win! Samsung has made a strong move. If there modem is on par or better than Qualcomm... Might seal it. M9 is nice but I'm not moved and Qualcomm 810 worries me. But this is just initial reaction. I didn't like the m8 either and hmmm I got it also. Lol

Fret not my good sir. The rumors of the Snapdragon 810's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

A small section from the hands on preview:

"First up, we have the raw CPU performance test with GeekBench 3, so things should be pretty straight-forward in this department. Naturally, we expected to see the HTC One M9 at the top of this list, along with the LG G Flex 2, due to the identical hardware, but the HTC does seem to perform better.

While testing the LG Flex2, we did notice that under load the phone tends to heat up quite noticeably. We were definitely happy to see that HTC One M9 had no problems in this department and squeezed even more juice of the more than capable Snapdragon 810 putting the debate over the thermal performance of Qualcomm's latest silicone to rest."

  10. I'm very confused, by these leaks that say these are the rendered official versions when it goes against the other sources that claim that the one m8 looking units are just demos and not the official release design.

I wouldn't look too much into it. These "official" renders are pulled from a german website and are probably just placeholder images.

If you go to Spigen's website, they have a VERY different representation of what the M9 looks like in their product pre-order pages.

So I've officially stopped looking into the design of the M9 and I'm just gonna patiently wait for Sunday morning.

  11. I am having severe is issues after downloading this update. I received the notification that the update was ready yesterday afternoon and proceeded to promptly download it and install it. This took about an hour - much longer than I'd anticipated. But that wasn't the issue. It was the battery life after the update. Something like 120 minutes! This phone had excellent battery life before the update! But the worst part is that once the battery finally drained completely last night, the phone refused to power back on and after being plugged in for several hours did manage to reboot but only after somehow completely erasing everything on my phone! It was a mess. I had to reinstall everything. I couldn't be more pissed with this update. Oh, and the phone is significantly slower and more laggy. Someone please give me my kit Kat back!

Wow I'm sorry to hear that, It sounds like a terrible stroke of bad luck. I've been running this update since Wednesday morning and I'm not noticing any of those issues. My phone runs smoother than before and standby battery life has improved a great deal.

However I have noticed that when I'm home and connected to WI-FI, every few minutes my WiFi will disconnect for a second and reconnect for no reason. It's a bit annoying but it hasn't caused any interruptions in my usage so it's not too bad.

  12. Updated to Lollipop. Does anybody who's using SignalCheck know if there's a way to eliminate the notification bar on the lock screen? It's kind of annoying, I wish it would just stay in the notification bar like in KitKat. Turning off notifications for SignalCheck removes it, but then SignalCheck doesn't run in the background.

And yes, it's 90 degrees today, February 11th, in Southern California  :)

The only way around it that I can find is to go into the General settings > Sound & Notification > scroll all the way down and under "When Device is Locked" set that to "Don't show notifications at all".

Granted you won't see text messages or anything else on the lock screen, but you also no longer have the SignalCheck bar. Another downside to that option is that you can't see your signal strength at all on when you turn your display on and you HAVE to unlock your device before you can see signal check in the notification bar. It's either that or not have signal check pro run in the status bar at all.

  13. I have a hard time distinguishing the M7, M8 and new supposed M9. It's like the GS3, GS4 and GS5. Come on, HTC. Move the goal posts a little further in design.

Lol then you must not be paying attention Robert ;)  I can tell them apart instantly. You can't compare that to the Galaxy S3-5, those were more like iPhones 4-5S  :D

  14. What speeds are you seeing

I'm hard pressed getting over 2.5-3mbps in a lot of York, PA. At my home I've consistently been getting 1.5-2 mbps for months now.

Doesn't bother me too much since I have 125 mbps Comcast Blast internet at home so WiFi will always get the nod, but it's a bit annoying when I'm out and about.

Instagram takes really long to load videos, and I'm always afraid to even attempt to show my friends a Youtube video in case it stops to buffer every 10 seconds.

  15. The HTC Software Update page was updated today and the Sprint M8 has been upgraded to the 3- Certification stage. I don't know how long that usually takes but I don't think it would be that long unless there's an issue.

If we are lucky we'll get it much sooner than next Friday.
