  1. If two B41 signals were coming from the same sector, I would expect them to propagate similarly. I wouldn't be surprised to know there are two B41 carriers to support CA, but I would not expect them to have different footprints. If you drive out of range of the first carrier, you will drive out of range of the second. They have the same power and come from the same antenna. An RSRP of -117 dBm is at the cell edge for sure.

Seems like Shentel is trying to get some sites on-air before the end of the year, and they likely have some B41 islands right now. Expect more consistent B41 service once more sites come online.

That makes sense, I just thought it was strange that for literally a split second before dropping to B25 it would show me the 2nd B41 carrier. It's almost like they're teasing you lol. In any case, I'm definitely excited for the major upgrade that's on the way.

  2. So I noticed this twice today both on the way to and from work. When reaching the cell edge of the B41 signal, Signal Check Pro displays that there is a 2nd B41 carrier, but it only displays for 1 second before dropping down to B25.

I managed to keep an eye on it and take a screenshot really quickly before it went away.

Is this normal or could this be a glitch from it being a recently activated and probably not optimized tower?

  3. Are you specifically asking about Netflix-created series, or any series that Netflix carries?

Any series that's available on Netflix please.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys, quite a few shows that I have heard good things about, as well as shows I've never heard of before. I'll add them to the list.

I'm glad House of Cards is getting a lot of mentions, several places say that the 2nd and 3rd seasons kinda slow down a bit so I was getting a bit discouraged to watch them but now I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Also surprised yet somehow glad nobody mentioned the "ultra popular shows that everyone talks about like Game of Thrones, Walking Dead or Breaking Bad.

  4. Just recently decided to get a Netflix account and watch a few series' to see what all the fuss is about with all these popular shows everyone is talking about and watch some good stuff.

I just binge watched the first season of Narcos this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised with how good it is. Next one I was planning on watching was either The Blacklist, Dexter or House of Cards.

What other recommended shows are out there or if anyone has seen the shows I listed that would suggest I not waste my time, please let me know.

Also Mods, if this Topic already exists I apologize in advance for making another. I didn't see an existing one.

  5. Yes, I know what QoS is for, just mentioning how in my limited experience, I've never needed it.

I mean in most cases outside of fast past online multiplayer gaming, the difference between say 35ms to 25ms would be imperceptible. If you play Halo or CoD online you would probably feel the difference, otherwise it would feel like it's a useless gimmick.

I've never had a router that has Adaptive QoS so I can't speak from experience, I'm just saying what makes sense to me in theory. Hey, maybe you're right and it does jack squat. But just keep in mind that if you're just streaming videos or browsing the web, you won't notice any difference.

  6. It's funny but I've never come across a time where QoS really came into play, the 200mbps connection I have from TWC gets unused for 60-70% of the day and in the evenings it's more than enough for multiple devices.

The purpose of QoS is to prioritize gaming to minimize latency as much as possible, it has nothing to do with bandwidth.

  7. What's your thoughts on the advertised Gaming Accelerator?  It sounds gimmicky, but could potentially be a game changer (literally ha!)

Lol I see what you did there! I can't speak on the Gaming Accelerator from experience cuz my router doesn't have that feature but I agree that the GPN by WTFast sounds extremely gimmicky and I have no idea if it even works. I think there are too many networking variables outside of your own router that can affect latency, but I guess it can't make it run any worse (knock on wood) Good thing is that it sounds like an optional software install and you aren't necessarily required to use that feature.

The Adaptive QoS on the other hand sounds pretty awesome, where it prioritizes game data through the router first, over a VoIP phone call through Vonage, someone FaceTiming on their iDevice or a family member streaming a show on Netflix, etc. over the same network.

  8. Wow, that is impressive.  I'm actually looking into ordering that router when it hits the shelves.  Any ideas when it comes out?  Newegg shows it's a new product, but it's out of stock so I don't know if people have bought it out or if it's not released yet.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320244

I have yet to see a release date of when this one actually goes on sale. But I think if there is a product page up on Newegg, it's got to be going on sale very soon. If you don't want to wait and also want to save $100 you could always go for the RT-AC88U - AC3100 right next to it. It just recently went on sale and also offers 4x4 MU-MIMO and Beam Forming so you will have similar range. The difference is you don't get that insane 5 Gbps WiFi transfer speed. Ya'know, in case 3 Gbps isn't enough lol.

  9. I vote the ASUS RT-AC5300 just because it's the most beastly router I have ever seen in my life.

    http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/2/9238057/asus-rt-ac5300u-triband-wireless-router-ifa-2015

In all seriousness tho, I currently own an ASUS RT-N65U and it hasn't given me a single issue and their graphic interface to adjust router/network settings is fantastic. Extremely well laid out, fast, and user friendly. My only regret is not getting one that has external antennas. Didn't think about signal strength throughout the house because at the time I was searching, my biggest priority was getting a router with Gigabit Ethernet as my previous Linksys router was limited to 10/100 mbps and it was bottlenecking my internet speed.

Long story short, if I were to be looking for another router, and when I upgrade to one with external antennas, I'd go Asus again for sure.

  10. I'm not sure what happened last night or if anything changed at all because of the whole WiMax ruling, but I woke up this morning to faster LTE speeds than usual. For several months while at my home I was unable to get speeds over 2 mbps on LTE. Then about 3 weeks to a month ago I was pulling about 4-5 mbps at home.

This morning I woke up and my WiFI wasn't working so when I started scrolling through Instagram on LTE it was loading everything MUCH faster. I ran a speed test and I was getting between 15-18 mbps down and 4-7 mbps up.

  11. This news completely ruined my day   :td:

When you're this excited about a change this major about to happen and then at the last minute you get told you have to wait, it's extremely upsetting.

How would you feel if your employer told you that you were going to get a promotion and a 30% increase in salary effective November 6. Then you get told at 3pm on Nov 5th that you have to wait 3 more months until it kicks in. I don't know about you guys, but I would be HOT!!

  12. No, in most markets it is not. (There are a couple of exceptions, where WiMax usage is high enough they have not done any WiMax thinning. WiMax sites tend to use different spectrum on each sector, so it eats up a lot of the available spectrum.)

But that's not what I'm talking about. I mean deploy a second carrier on the Clear equipment. Not deploy a second carrier in general. In dual mode WiMax/LTE, Clear equipment can only broadcast one LTE carrier. With WiMax shut off, they can deploy a second (or more) carrier.

Yes, they do have a lot of 2.5 GHz spectrum. BUT, the way WiMAX was deployed, each sector used a DIFFERENT 10 MHz slice of spectrum. So one site used 30 MHz, and other sites may use other 10 MHz slices of spectrum also, so even MORE spectrum is used. Therefore, a lot of spectrum can get used very easily.

So yes, WiMAX does have to be shut down in areas that not much thinning has been done in order to launch a second carrier.

Edit: DK got his post out before mine :)

It sounds like a lot of spectrum currently but if Sprint wants to use some of that 2.5 GHz spectrum for intraband wireless backhaul it won't be that much especially if Sprint can ramp up to 5xCA at some point  .  The reason I say 5xCA is because I think I read that LTE can be aggregated up to 100 MHz currently.

Didn't know that the Clear equipment is only limited to 2 LTE carriers max.  So yeah I think its crucial that Sprint decommission the Wimax network quickly so that a 2nd LTE carrier can be fired up for 2xCA.

Sprint isn't going to waste money maintaining a dying technology with few subscribers. They aren't required to and they would be stupid to. It is better used boosting B41 speeds with 3 carriers. Even a second set of 3 carriers, then leaving the WiMax network operating.

WiMax's death was announced in 2012. Most of the customers that were around in 2012 are long gone. Most of these remaining subscribers became WiMax customers after the 2012 announcement that Sprint was going LTE and getting away from WiMax and Clearwire's subsequent announcement.

These really low cost WiMax plans came out to just use the network until its sunset. So it won't be a complete waste for 3 years and perhaps generate some revenue. Now these people certainly are in no position to demand to keep it now. They always only were going to have it for a short time. This should be a surprise to no one.

Thanks for the insight guys and for the rapid response. I actually would second RAvirani's question right above me and ask how long would it take for a second carrier to show up after the shutdown?

Is that something that could be set up before hand in the months leading up to the shutdown and as soon as Nov 6 rolls around they just turn off Wimax and turn on LTE? Or am I oversimplifying the amount of work required to make the transition?

  13. Shutting off WiMax should not degrade service at all (unless you still use WiMax....).

They main thing that will come of the shutdown will be the ability to deploy a second B41 carrier on capable equipment. I'm not sure there is much optimization to be done.

With the sheer amount of 2.5 Ghz spectrum that Sprint has at it's disposal, is it really a REQUIREMENT for them to shut down the WiMax Network for them to be able to deploy a second B41 carrier?

Don't they have upwards of 100+Mhz of this spectrum across the entire country?

  14. Looks like shentel is installing 2.5 panels right now on the mcsherrystown water tower in Hanover pa

Nice! I guess I should start keeping an eye out when I'm driving around.

I have noticed over the past few days that at my job in New Oxford, my LTE has gotten unusually slow (like 500+ ms ping on a speedtest) I'm not sure if this is any sort of sign of a tower that's being worked on. But since New Oxford isn't a highly populated town, I don't see Shentel installing B41 here so early since they will be focusing on their densest areas first.

I'm actually surprised that Hanover falls under that category, but I could just be underestimating the scope of Shentel's initial B41 rollout priority.

  15. Lancaster near oulets have live band 41 and ca showing coverage was good and at -117 stilling close 27 mbps down.

Wow I can't believe that. I was just in Lancaster on Friday and Saturday at the Lancaster Family Resort right across the street from Dutch Wonderland, and at no point did I run a speed test or even notice if I was connected to B41.  :wall:

  16. I have a M9. Like I said up until Friday morning I never had an issue with handoff.

I too have an M9 and have experienced the same thing. It doesn't happen on EVERY tower handoff but I have notice it happen very often lately. I haven't been able to notice a trend yet tho in regards to if the issue is when handing off from 1 band to another while on the phone, or moving from my Shentel Market (York, PA) to a Central PA Sprint Market (Lancaster, PA).

I have had my call drop a few times about a minute or 2 after crossing the susquehanna river going into Lancaster county, so I'm not sure if that would be what's causing it.

  17. I have noticed that it switches between LTE and 3G a little more often than my M8 did but still waaaayyyy better than the old Evo LTE so I got not complaints about that just yet. Not nearly as good as the Nexus 6 I had for a few days tho, that thing almost never dropped down to 3G.

What I have noticed is that after ending a phone call, it does take significantly longer to reconnect to data. Not sure if it's just mine or if a radio update is needed for this phone.

Also the battery life was absolutely horrendous on this phone for the first 4 days or so but I guess the rom finally settled down or something because now battery life is much better. Comparable to if not better than my M8 after the lollipop update.
