  1. AT&T has really solid voice quality in my region of the country. Am I in the outlier here? Verizon is super-compressed here. Sometimes it also cuts volume from really soft to really loud and back. I haven't really talked enough on Sprint to make a fair judgment of where they stand.
  2. I simply do not believe that Sprint has had enough time to test out the new frequencies. That would be my guess as to why LTE 800 and TD-LTE 2600 are not included.
  3. While I think many people are frustrated that Sprint has embedded SIM's, I can understand why at this point they went this route. Sprint can't afford major outages at this point, like what Verizon sustained, in building out their 4G LTE network through Network Vision.
  4. I'd buy the One on Sprint...if Sprint ever got to putting a tower in the NIMBY little s*** towne where I abide.
  5. The stories of Charlie being an arse are quite legendary. He'd fight anyone for a buck.
  6. Is Sprint going to have a special "embedded SIM" version of the One?
  7. This. I haven't tried with a 4G LTE phone on any of the carriers, but I know from going to games last year that Verizon was absolutely brutal to use. Data wouldn't even work. Lots of time, the phone would just straight go back to 1X. I know US Cellular was the wireless sponsor of the Cardinals, but with the Sprint takeover of that market, I have no clue who takes over.
  8. I don't know but I know Rozier's in Perryville sells all that.
  9. I would guess that A1428, the GSM model sold for AT&T in the US along with the Canadian LTE providers Bell, Telus, Rogers, and Fido can be upgraded to support CLR and PCS LTE with a future software update. That's just a guess though, I have no way of knowing.
  10. I wish someone from S4GRU would get in touch with the Engadget mobile editor Myriam Joire. I recommend AJ Shephard. Maybe an epic flame war between CDMA and GSM will ensue?
  11. There are a few areas where Sprint may need to add filler sites to keep coverage equal to USCC. There's a couple I can think of in Randolph County, out by the World Shooting Complex and one in downtown Sparta.
  12. The most important part of LTE Advanced might be things like cooperative multipoint and the intercell interference reduction techniques LTE Advanced incorporates. Unfortunately that's not going to be hyped up nearly as much.
  13. People think of me as an iPhone guy, and that's true, but... Samsung comes out with a Note 10.1 with a HiDPI display, and I'm seriously considering because of the stylus drawing capability.
  14. Once LTE Advanced with CoMP is available everywhere (2015 and afterward), I think it's feasible to, at the least, switch smartphone customers over to VoLTE with HD Voice. I don't think that CDMA will be sunset until at least 2020. By the way, where'd HD Voice on 1X go? The Evo was supposed to have that but nothing launched. T-Mobile at least has HD Voice going over AMR Wideband running on conventional UMTS channels.
  15. Sprint is going with the same design as the GSM models this time? My theory is that if Sprint had just gone with the One X design and called it the EVO, that they'd have better performance on it. They could have sold the AT&T version with CDMA enabled and had a better phone.
  16. I've not had any love for American since they terminated most of the flights coming out of the old TWA hub in St. Louis. If this can lead to the old MD-80 fleet going away, however, I'm all for it. Unfortunately the consolidation of the airlines is irreversible at this point.
  17. That's precisely what I was referring to. There are other local co-ops getting back in the mobile business who could be interested in that USCC spectrum. https://www.mymobilenation.com These guys are owned by some of the local telephone co-ops in Southern Illinois, including the one in my area, Egyptian Telephone. Right now they don't serve that area. They had plans at first and didn't go through with them. I assume that's because they didn't want to compete with another low cost CDMA provider. There could be a niche for these guys in Southern Illinois, not to mention they play friendly with Sprint, having most of their coverage show up as native on Sprint coverage maps. With ATNI vacating the area and yielding their towers and spectrum to AT&T, there's a place to go now on the low end IMO. SI Wireless DBA Mobilenation could consider buying the USCC spectrum in Southeast Missouri around the Cape Girardeau-Sikeston area and Southern Illinois as well.
  18. Look at Randolph County in my home state of Illinois. Sprint has only Red Bud, USCC has Red Bud, Baldwin, and Sparta. Most of the areas though, I'll concede that Sprint has stronger coverage. I'm noticing USCC has spectrum they've never deployed in Carbondale/Marion (BTA 067). Anyone want to build a local wireless carrier?

    What is a PRL?

The Chicago Subway question is a good one. What's going to happen with the Subway once Sprint takes over for USCC in the coming months?
  20. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1789097-AT-amp-T-LTE-rollout?p=15046913#post15046913
  21. I'm bumping this because I wanted to say that I made an argument for VZW to implement EVRC-NW on HoFo. For a lot of the more rural customers in the VZW footprint, that would be a more of a boon than VoLTE. VoLTE is a big bag of hurt right now.
  22. I can understand that. I just don't think I've filled up this thread with speed tests for other providers. For the most part, I put that information over at HoFo where the other network fanboys play.
  23. I think it's relevant to see what Sprint has to compete with in a given market. I don't think Sprint has to blow these companies away. They just have to get the new network rolled out. Given Sprint's relationship with CenturyLink, I think they'll do very well in St. Charles County. But anyway, thanks for the snark.
  24. I will be in that area later. If I see anything I'll let you know.
  25. Wait, there's sites in the Illinois portion of the market being worked on? Could some of them be around Carbondale?
