  1. Better Off Dead is a good movie. For some reason they were talking about it on the local sports radio (WWLS) this morning. Just coincidence or was that old movie in the news for some reason? I may have to watch it tonight while I do my taxes. Note to self - do a speed test tonight from home to post to show LTE performance from a tower at a distance of 4.7 miles at -108dBm.
  2. Let's see, go out for lunch for some fried chicken, maybe the buffet at Mackie's, or go to the gym and eat a protein bar? Decisions decisions.
  3. Nope, the Yukon speedtest was just going down the road heading to the GF's house. She's a little further away from the tower, right on the border with OKC. Speeds aren't as impressive there but much better than when sometimes you'd get a signal from the Garth Brooks Blvd & Route 66 tower. I did some speedtests from inside her house, I'll post one when I get back out to the car (where the phone is currently located). I will have to check to see if the LTE is faster than her old clunky DSL. -85dBm is pretty good. I'll have to have kiddo #1 check his signal at work (Timberdell between Chautauqua & Asp). At home in Choctaw I'm lucky to get better than -108dBm from a tower ~4.7 miles away. Four other towers are closer but one is 3G-only, one is 10 foot tall (small exaggeration) with a useful radius of 1 mile, one is probably out of LOS as it's downhill south of I-240, and the tall tower at NE 23rd & Westminster just doesn't work well. Is it possible that the antennas were never aimed properly? There's great signal right underneath it but dropoff is rapid, another tower with about a 1-mile useful radius.
  4. I'm surprised that you get any signal at all at home what with all those apartments sucking it up! Wonder what the holdup is with the water tower on Lindsey (near Classen)? Water tower in Yukon is finally active LTE (from old route 66 near Mustang Rd):
  5. But there are so many more markers on the map! Been quite a while since I've gone down there, guess I just assumed that the metroplex would have better service. But, no 800 MHz marker around Plano. DiL does have a Nexus 5 so she's set for tri-band. Unfortunately the Kiddo has a 5S, drank the Kool-aid.
  6. It's looking more and more like my Tulsa kiddo will be transferring from Tulsa to Plano (TX) for work. I guess that's okay, at least it isn't much further from here, plus the ex will still be in Tulsa. And the Sprint service should be much better in the Dallas area!
  7. Well, I'm up to three Nexus 5s now. Bought the daughter-in-law a 32GB B&W version for Christmas. Got it charged-up with SIM (easily obtained from International chat support) installed and ready to activate. She'll be happy to replace that old iPhone 4S that she's had to use since breaking her GS3.
  8. Worldwide chat has worked well two times now. The Corporate Sprint store on I-240 would not give up a SIM, claimed that they didn't have any, that the 11/9 shipment never came in. Got both phones activated via regular chat though both times the reps at first could not find the phone ID numbers in their system. Both eventually did find the numbers and activate the phones but curious that both blamed me for giving bad info (though the chat documentation emails show that I did provide proper information).
  9. Couldn't find the iHeart Radio app on the N5 along with all of the others that were automatically downloaded at activation. Went looking for it on the Playstore and couldn't download because it's not compatible? (sorry, forget the exact wording of the message and I'm at work where the phone isn't) Is there any good reason why an app wouldn't work with the N5? This is just a streaming app for radio stations, I normally listen to WWLS with it.
  10. Out for delivery. Standard shipping here.
  11. Looks like by black 32GB N5 shows up Wednesday, ordered on the 4th. Have the SIM in-hand, hopefully I won't have any major problems what with being in a good incumbent market. Now if they would just get 800MHz LTE going around here.
  12. Welcome to a fellow Michigander! (also from just outside Detroit - well Monroe, in the next county south) Hope Sprint gives you great service.
  13. I've run DD-WRT in the past on other routers but my To-Do list at home is so long that playing with router firmware is way down there right now. I did perform an ASUS firmware update on my router last night, but then that was because the home internet was crawling following the Cox Cable speed increase announcement. Didn't know if my problem was on my end or theirs so was going about rebooting everything and noticed that the router update was available.
  14. Case - delivered SIM card - out for delivery 32GB Black N5 - leaves warehouse 11/26/2013 16GB White N5 - leaves warehouse 12/3/2013 Hurry up and wait.
  15. I've got a PS3 but really only use it as a Blu-ray player and streaming device in the bedroom. Oh I guess I beta test a few apps too. I pre-ordered a PS4 combo from Target but since I'm not much of a gamer I may or may not keep it. If not a kiddo might get a nice Christmas present. As a casual user didn't see a lot of differences between the units, but the PS4 is supposed to be able to function as a DirecTV RVU client in the future and then there were the attempted Microsoft shenanigans, so chose the Sony product.
  16. Used the previously posted chat link and have a 3FF SIM card (SKU = 760492013536) on the way. By the time I get my 32GB Black N5 all the bumps will have been smoothed over, eh? I'm late to the party, initial shipping time for me is 3-4 weeks. I wanted a tri-band, and I'll probably give the S4 to the GF's kiddo as his S3 is acting up (hard to turn on and off, intermittently can't hear callers). In the mean time still can use the S4 and the (now) old Verizon Rezound.
  17. Next month my Verizon contract is up so it's decision time. I was hopeful of ditching dual service and going only with Sprint to save money. Unfortunately Sprint just isn't good enough yet, an LTE/800MHz voice tower (SE 44th & Sooner Rd. in Del City) just a mile away from my gym is unusable inside. Verizon works well. Since the mobile isn't allowed in the office it's real important to me that I catch up on things while in the gym during lunch. Maybe 800 MHz LTE (which we should get in a couple of years?) will help and I can kick the Verizon habit.
  18. Beautiful area Rapid City. I always enjoyed my time spent there. So much to see and do, just gotta watch the weather. You can get almost tropical weather in the middle of winter, followed by a blizzard! Enquiring minds are wondering what's taking you there. Wish you all the best and take care.
  19. Looks like a moot point for me as switching to a new plan from my old Everything Data - 1500 Shared Anytime Minutes Included (5 phones) plan would raise my bill ~$41/month. (employee discount would move from the basic service on the old plan to instead apply to data on the new plan) I'll hold out as long as I can. Are we clear on whether the old style upgrade paths will still be available? Should I expect to be forced to change plans sometime in the future?
  20. Got some specific locations? What LTE signal strengths are you getting? (not bars which are CDMA-only) Maybe just weak LTE signal.
  21. Looks like the I-240 at Air Depot Blvd. tower (cells 100/269/438 just South of Tinker) is finally active after having new equipment and Complete status for a month or two. This is from about a half mile away while the signal to noise ratio was fluctuating wildly. Things looked more settled as I was going home later and I got ~25Mb/s right in front of the tower.
  22. I heard it reported that the SW 15th tower near Mustang road is active LTE so that should be good for you. My GF's brother lives in your vicinity near SW 4th & Czech Hall Rd., I'll have to drive over that way and check it out. But you're map is missing the most important part of MWC! So is the SE 44th & Sooner Rd tower doing you any good?
  23. Or maybe bad planning and decision making? Many companies including my own have been too enamored of outsourcing work and then Management acts surprised when the contractors (like Clearwire) don't perform. My company lost billions (with a of dollars, years of schedule and prestige due to stupid management farming out too much work that we should have been doing and used to do ourselves. It's management by buzzword and current fad. I jumped to Verizon for my personal phone almost two years ago. Had to, Sprint data around here was just unusable. Verizon is expensive (not on a grandfathered unlimited data plan but at least I'm not on a shared plan where they cut out discounts) but it works well. I'm always having to turn on my tethering/wifi service so Sprint friends and family can use data when we're out. T-mobile is no option, just 2G at my house even though OKC city limits extend 14 miles beyond my location. Can't stomach the thought of AT&T with their past and current unsavory business practices. I'm hoping that Sprint does well, still have 5 Sprint phones for family and use one myself to track LTE progress around here (which seems slow, watched pot syndrome I guess). For lower cost would sure like to quit Verizon and just go with Sprint.
  24. RIP Tim & Paul Samaras and Carl Young. So sorry for the families of the lost stormchashers. Was driving around rural El Reno looking for houses of co-workers of the GF (who works in El Reno, seat of Canadian county) but the sheriff had many roads blocked off including the one where the tornado killed folks. The tornado made a virtual 90 degree turn to get the stormchashers so they didn't do anything stupid, just unlucky in a dangerous situation. Another crew survived being lifted 30 feet in the air then thrown another 200. Nine were killed in all with another six missing. After El Reno this tornado set it's sights on Yukon where the GF lives. On TV they're telling folks that you must be underground to survive so she evacuated and had a harrowing drive to my place where I have an in-ground garage shelter. The peace of mind it provides makes the shelter well worth it. We're all ready for the season to be over and traditionally about now is when it ends.
