  1. Yeah... That's how I feel like after reading the comments section of any Sprint related article on every tech site.
  2. Omg... The icon is animated? I would have been fine if that icon was just a static image in the status bar, but animated? That's going to be annoying.
  3. If anything, they are releasing Spark to the more popular phones first: http://www.comscore.com/Insights/Press_Releases/2013/8/comScore_Reports_June_2013_U.S._Smartphone_Subscriber_Market_Share Sure, the GS4 Mini, the Mega 6.3, and the HTC One Max are not really flagship devices, but I wouldn't be surprised if all three of those models individually outsold both the Nexus 5 and the G2 individually.
  4. As someone who's messed with Android way too much since the Evo 4G, I will have to say that benchmarks aren't everything. The Galaxy S 4 destroys the Nexus 4 in benchmarks, but in my opinion (and probably many others' opinions), the Nexus 4 just feels smoother. This proves that it's not really the HW holding back "responsiveness" or "smoothness" from Android devices. It's really the extra UX framework that slows down the experience. I have always felt that TouchWiz, no matter how powerful a chip you put in there, was a piece of garbage in terms of performance. Heck, the Nexus 5 is getting crap numbers in certain benchmarks, but reviewers mainly stick with the idea that the Nexus 5 is the smoothest Android experience today. That's my take on benchmarks. As for governors, if you do the research, interactive should technically yield better results in terms of performance, but you should stick with what feels better to you. Ondemand is a very aggressive governor. If it thinks it needs performance, it will crank up the clock speed. However, the downside is that as soon as it *thinks* you don't need performance anymore, it will aggressively crank down the clock speed. These decisions happen in the milliseconds range, so you could have had the governor decide that it was time to lower the clock speed, and then you see a frame drop, and then the governor cranks up the clock speed again, and then it's smooth again. Interactive is still aggressive when it comes to cranking up the clock speed, but it kind of leans toward the performance side. So not only does it crank up the clock speed faster, it also lowers the clock speed slower. One other specific feature to Interactive, is that if you just turned on the screen, it assumes you will use the screen immediately, so it cranks up the maximum frequency immediately. It's pretty much the best governor out there for performance without sacrificing too much battery. For more information on governors, I suggest you do a Google Search, but this thread at XDA also helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663809
  5. Jealous of you northern OC folks. I live in Tustin and work in Irvine, and other than UC Irvine, there are like 2 spots with just band 25 LTE (exaggerating... but sometimes that's how I feel). Of course, those "2" (2 in quotes because it's more than 2, but not a lot) spots weren't there a month ago, so I'm still happy seeing Sprint make progress. As for B41, there are like... 10 WIMAX towers in all of Tustin and Irvine, so other than those specific locations, I don't expect B41 anytime soon. As I said in the last paragraph though, it's nice to even see B25 spreading around. I'll be satisfied once I see band 25 everywhere, and band 41 will just be icing on the cake. Oh well. When I visit my parents in LA, I'll have amazing speeds.
  6. That's how I run my Galaxy S III. While Google Now and being always connected sounds like a nice feature, it definitely puts stress on the battery. That's actually one of the reasons I originally leaned towards the LG G2. I wanted to see if I could use a phone that could have everything syncing without worrying about battery life. But the Nexus 5 is so tempting, and I definitely don't really *need* everything to be synced all the time. It's probably how I'll run the Nexus 5 when ever I get it.
  7. It really depends on your priorities. Originally I was planning on getting the LG G2. I read Anandtech's mini review on it, and the battery life and camera blew me away, and this is coming from someone who doesn't prioritize camera quality on a smartphone (I have a digital camera for that, and one that specializes in low light pictures since I attend nerd conventions and concerts frequently where lighting is definitely not ideal). In any case, I was completely set on the G2. It's just a better phone, spec wise. Then when it was 100% confirmed that the Play Store version of the Nexus 5 was compatible with Sprint, I started considering what really mattered to me. The Nexus 5 will have timely updates, will have developer support since it's not the Sprint Galaxy Nexus from yesteryear. But the LG G2 is king of battery life, even besting the Droid Maxx in some reviews. I have terrible Sprint reception in my office at work, so the LG G2 was very very enticing. However, I know my way around Android, and I'm able to get my Galaxy S III's battery to 50% after 16 hours off the charger, and this is still with the 8-9 hours roaming on MetroPCS in my office. Not only that, but I'm a flashaholic. I'm always trying out new ROMs, and I tend to stick with AOSP, which was one of the main factors with me dropping my Epic 4G Touch to get a Galaxy S 3. So in the end, I decided that the developer support was really what mattered to me. I'm sure the LG G2 will have dev support from the big names like CyanogenMod, but there is no way for them to match the support that the Nexus 5 will get. I figured that the Nexus 5 is really what will bring me enjoyment for the lifetime of the product. So yeah, that's my story. It all depends on you. What do you really want out of your smartphone? It's ok if you end up deciding that the Nexus 5 isn't for you, as long as you end up with a product you are happy with down the line.
  8. I'm in the same boat as you. 32 GB, Black, and ships on 11/26. I've also been stocking that status page every day to see if it's changed. I also just checked the Google Play Store page for the 32 GB Black. They updated the shipping time to 3-4 weeks like the 16 GB one. 32 GB White still shows 2-3 weeks. Good thing we ordered ours before that happened.
  9. Waiting in line for Blizzcon, Anaheim convention center. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
  10. Those texts look exactly like what happens when you put Sprint visual voicemail onto an AOSP ROM, though I think the latest CM versions are able to correctly hide those texts (I'm using SlimBean 4.3 right now on my GS3). I'm not really an expert on this, but I believe the Sprint visual voicemail app uses these SMS messages to determine whether you got a voicemail or not, and while stock ROMs know how to handle this, this functionality is not baked into AOSP, so it just comes in as a regular text.
  11. I also ordered a 32 GB black yesterday at around ~11:30 AM (pacific time), and my order status shows as: "Leaves warehouse on 11/26/13"
  12. Lol. I'm guessing Sprint's either using the same app or using the same source to compile the hidden menu app and just sent it out to Google, LG, and Samsung (Does the Galaxy Note 3's hidden menu also misspell priority or does that menu just not function since it's not a triband device?).
  13. Well... After stalking this thread and the old Nexus 5 thread, I finally decided to get this phone instead of the G2. I was originally going to wait for my upgrade to be ready in December, but then I learned that the 32 GB is not going to be offered in Sprint stores, and well... I wanted the 32 GB, and a black one at that. And now that I've waited this long... it's said to leave the warehouse on 11/26. And for sure, they will have the systems in place to hopefully be as painless as possible by then.
  14. Sensorly has been updated recently, it's just that Irvine really isn't covered yet. For example, the dark section of LTE you see on the corner of Culver/Irvine Center Dr.? That's completely new that was not there 2-3 weeks ago.
  15. I believe it's just LA for now. For OC, you should be seeing "Spark" where ever there is WiMAX in the coming months, since they're using Clearwire's Spectrum for that.
  16. By the way... for people who aren't believers in Sprint expanding LTE in OC, here is a speed test I did last night inside of Ralph's on the corner of Newport and Irvine Blvd in Tustin. This area did not have LTE last week.
  17. I know this is late, but I barely had time to see this: http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/first-sprint-tri-band-capable-smartphones-arrive-on-nov-8.htm Haha! I was right then I said they should make a press release for these Triband phones. I would quote myself from the other G2 thread, but that's all I want to say... lol. December 1st can't come any sooner for my upgrade date.
  18. It depends on the context... This is the main reason I love Year Month Date order instead: Create file names 10012012, 09022013, then sort the directory in alphabetical order from A to Z. Now do it with the file names changed to 20120110 and 20130209. You will see that 09022013 shows up before 10012012 even though 09022013 is a later date than 10012012. Now imagine hundreds of files with different dates spanning multiple years. Ignoring metadata like date created and date last modified, this method would create a mess when it comes to sorting files. Remember, I'm not talking about which unit is most important to know in daily activities. I'm talking mathematically, like what mozamcrew said. YYYY MM DD makes the most sense mathematically since that format makes it easy to do certain algorithms with it, such as sorting. In any case, I won't let this thread take more of a detour than it has, so this is it for me on this topic.
  19. I went to the Sprint website to see if they updated the LTE coverage map yet, and I still saw their LTE footprint stop at the LA county OC boarder. I really want to see what area they qualify as "Santa Ana / Anaheim", because I've been around Garden Grove and Westminster, and I get LTE all over the place there (and Sensorly confirms this). I do know Tustin/Irvine and south don't really get LTE yet, but I'm just curious to see what parts of OC are included in "Santa Ana / Anaheim" or if they really will just show a giant LTE coverage area around ONLY Santa Ana and Anaheim in their coverage maps.
  20. I'm not going to lie... This is the most logical format for dates. Most significant unit in front, least significant unit at the end. You don't read 10:30:12 as 10 minutes, 30 seconds, and 12 hours or 10 seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hours, do you...
  21. Yeah, Looks like they are launching LTE for those where were lucky enough to already have WiMax. The rest of us who were not so lucky have to continue to suffer with the old network for a while longer. This is about the spot Clear wire ran out of $$ last time... Leaving Irvine at a snails pace.. I am hopeful that with the Softbank buyout it won't be a repeat of that with LTE roll out. Irvine was definitely left in the dust when WiMAX stopped expansion. However, just in the past two weeks that I've been a sponsor, I've seen at least 4 new towers pop up in the Irvine/Tustin area, so things are definitely looking up. Not only that, but the Network Vision Site Acceptance Thread also shows that OC is starting to accelerate when it comes to NV since the end of September. This is definitely not the same Sprint they were previous to the SoftBank/Sprint/Clearwire acquisitions.
  22. Maybe since the Nexus 4 was selling like hotcakes, even though there was no real event, Google decided to not waste time and money making a huge announcement, and instead will write a simple blog post. More money for them.
  23. Wow... If SD county is getting 800, I hope I start seeing it in OC soon as well.
  24. Yeah... After reading koiulpoi's and enyce9's experiences, it kind of freaked me out, so I also wanted to see what the folks at XDA were experiencing. Thanks for letting me hijack your question .
  25. Can you guys try setting Band 25 to Priority 1. It looks like it works for this guy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46752946&postcount=37
