  1. The Hangouts app has that limitation, but as others have said, there are 3rd party apps that can manage this. I personally use Handcent, even though that app bloated itself. I still use it though since it works. It has the option to automatically split your text messages and even turn it into an mms if it gets past 3 sms messages. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  2. What happened to "Testing"? I guess their testing is done, lol.
  3. If reports are right and 4.4.1 is coming within the next few days, then I doubt it'll have the official Sprint Spark support in it. We know that the Spark update is coming early 2014, like the LG G2. Of course, it would be a pleasant surprise if it was included with this update, but it mainly looks like camera fixes. Let's hope 4.4.2 comes out with Spark support and in the early part of "early 2014".
  4. You guys must have massive hands to love pressing the power button on the HTC One. My opinion is that the GS3 had it right. If I hold my phone with my right hand, my thumb would rest right on the power button. If I held it with my left hand, I could easily find it with my index finger. The Nexus 5 moved it up, so now I have to shift my hand up a bit. The HTC One was similar: I'd have to shift my whole hand up to press the power button up top. The LG G2 has a better solution in the form of knock on. My sister has it, and it's a whole lot better than looking for a power button. The only time I confuse the power button for the volume rockers is on the Nexus 7. Who's idea was it to put both the volume rockers and the power button on the same side in very close proximity to each other?
  5. I don't really know if this is considered an "improvement", but my Nexus 5 seems to hold onto fringe 3G signals better than my Galaxy S III. I would be consistently roaming in my cubicle at work with the GS3, but my N5 seems to hold onto Sprint a lot more. I only recall my phone roaming once in the last 2 weeks that I've had this phone. I still don't use data at work, though, as my speeds are still horrible there.
  6. I haven't tried any of the custom ROMs since most are still in their alpha or beta phase. I'm mainly rooted since I like to use titanium backup to restore my apps, and I like to have the ability to mess with the system partition, but other than that, I like stock. I also use Xposed framework, which got their first stable release for KitKat, so doing small mods is easy. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  7. I personally don't use ART, as I had a bad experience with it on the home screen and a few apps, but as mike said, just try it, and if you don't like it, switch back. I unfortunately still use apps stuck in the gingerbread days, so those apps just didn't work, but try it and see if you like it. However, I disagree about the building of the ART cache. It takes significantly longer than the building of Dalvik cache, so if you have 80+ user apps like me, expect to wait a very long time on the reboot after switching to ART. The best time to switch to ART is when you don't have a bunch of user apps like me. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  8. BTW. When people say this phone is fast... It really is fast at everything. I tried toggling Airplane mode, and it's seriously instantaneous. I turn it on and I see the airplane mode icon in the status bar in a second or 2. As soon as I disable airplane mode, it connects to LTE right away. Definitely a better experience than my GS3.
  9. Well... back to triband goodness, or lack thereof, I just made it to my parent's house in downtown LA and tried enabling B41. So far, no dice. I know I had a decent Wimax signal here in my room when I had my Evo 4G, but nothing so far with the Nexus 5. What's good, though, is I'm getting amazing B25 speeds here. I just clocked in a 17.8 Mbps down and 6.42 Mbps up speed test, and I NEVER could get past 13 down,3 up with my Galaxy S 3. This thing definitely has a strong LTE connection. I can't wait until I can see a strong B41 signal. I might take a walk to the B41 enabled site here sometime his weekend, and see if I can get a signal there.
  10. Yea. Just use a different launcher like Nova or Apex and it'll be just like the ICS/JB days. That said, it's amazing how Google is exposing a way to easily change the default messaging app and launcher right from the settings menu. I know Android has always been about customization, but I think exposing those to users who aren't too tech savvy is definitely a step in the right direction. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  11. I know the ART reboot is painful, but try switching back to Dalvik for a few weeks. ART is still an experimental runtime compiler for a reason, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is what is causing random reboots. If your phone on Dalvik is still having random reboots, as AMD64 said, maybe there's a bad app somewhere. I tried ART once and it actually gave me a worse experience. My home screen wallpaper was cut off, some apps that I frequently use stopped working, etc. It just didn't work for me. I switched back to Dalvik and the Android that I know and love was back. I'm sure ART has potential in the future, but for now, I don't use it. The Nexus 5 is already one of the smoothest experiences, and while smoother and faster is nice, I'll wait for ART to mature.
  12. I, personally, just attach the image as an attachment instead of an embedded image in the post. That way, people can see the thumbnails and then click to see a bigger image if they want. I know everyone has their own way, and this is just my preference.
  13. First LTE Speed Test in Irvine Spectrum Center. Just B25, but just doing it cuz I can. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  14. Apps don't necessarily need to be "optimized" for ART, but many apps still are not compatible with ART, hence the option being in developer options. See this link for a list of known working and non-working apps: http://www.androidruntime.com/list
  15. Yup... I work in Irvine too, and since I'm also on the boundary of getting LTE, my phone loves to bounce back and forth between LTE and 3G and never gets a consistent signal. I actually set my phone to be 3G only unless I visit my parents in LA or go to mid-north OC because those places actually have consistent LTE coverage. However, I can tell you that they are improving. If you visit the Sensorly map thread here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4145-sprint-lte-coverage-maps-via-sensorly/, I can tell you that those dark purple spots on the corner of Culver/Irvine Center Dr. and Culver/Irvine Blvd were not there 3 months ago. If you become a Sponsor to this site, you can actually get more detailed maps and see the NV rollout happening before your eyes. I was skeptical at first, but I ended up putting down some money, and my faith in Sprint has never been stronger. You just have to be patient.
  16. I've never tried this specific app myself, but my experience with power management apps and task killers is that it might be good for casual users who don't know their way around Android apps' sync settings, but I tend to get better results messing with the sync settings myself. As I've said before, while auto syncing is nice in the form of Google Now and Google+, those two specifically are huge battery drainers. Turning just those two apps off has allowed me to make any Android phone last all day, assuming there's no other app that adds long times of partial wakelocks.
  17. So after playing around with it for a day, I'm definitely loving this phone. I also have my MSL, but I didn't mess with the LTE settings yet. Where I live and work, I hardly get even B25, but come next week, when I'm in my parent's house for Thanksgiving in LA, I'll definitely try to get some B41 goodness. Since I'm a premier sponsor, I know that there is a B41 tower active really close to my parent's house, so we'll see how it goes. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  18. I also haven't received my usual UPS Choice notification. Mine departed 4:55 PM KY time, so I expect it to arrive in CA sometime later tonight. I'm unfortunately one of the last stops in the local UPS route as I always tend to get packages at 8 PM (my PS4 arrived last Friday at 8:10 PM as my most recent example), so if it does go out for delivery tomorrow, I don't expect it until around 8 PM.
  19. For the great deals that a Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 are, holy crap that is expensive. You can find good Qi wireless charging pads on Amazon for less than half that price. I'm not planning on buying any wireless charging pad myself anytime soon, but jeez, $50?
  20. Don't lose hope! Maybe you'll get a shipping notice later today or tomorrow. Of course, nothing is guaranteed until the 26th, but so far, there has been a good trend of people getting early shipments.
  21. For what it's worth, I chose 2 day shipping at checkout, and my phone is shipping from Louisville, KY, with destination being Orange County, CA. Does anyone know if that's where they are all shipping from, or are there closer locations to CA that they can do UPS Ground from? Just speculating if maybe choosing 2-day shipping helped me get a Nexus 5 earlier since I can get a Nexus 5 from a warehouse on the other side of the country while people choosing regular shipping are stuck with relatively local warehouses. I obviously don't know jack about shipping, but just wondering if that could be the case.
  22. Hey guys... Guess what? My 32 GB Black has shipped! My original date was the 26th, so I hope all you other November 26th dates ship soon.
  23. So I got my Nexus 5 screen protector in the mail (the zagg invisibleShield variant)... Still waiting for that "shipped" email for my Nexus 5. The 26th is next week, but it seems like I've been waiting forever.
  24. Wow. Who would have thought that putting those two little arrow icons to show data activity would have caused such a performance hit that Google themselves decided to take them out of the status bar. Oh well... That just leads me to believe that Google would not even be close to allowing Sprint to put the Spark icon on the Nexus 5.
  25. I agree with both of you. Hopefully the Nexus 5 doesn't get that icon, but in the event that it does, then I hope it's only animated during data transfer. Otherwise, it's going to be pretty annoying.
