  3. They could still be 3g only listed on the map for several reasons. Maybe Sprint hasn't yet accepted it as 4g because of some problem. Contractors need to be called back out to fix their mistake, etc. It's possible the information that S4GRU gets is just a bit behind. Data here is only as good as what is received, and the tower may be marked just 3g or 3g/800 but actually doing 4g. Fiber backhaul may still need to be hooked up, meaning the site is still on copper and that's not fast enough to support 4g, so they're waiting on that to happen. Then is possible that the responsible sprint tech, just hasn't yet set foot inside the fence. It'll be accepted once he gets there.

  14. I certainly don't have much faith that's how it will play out. They're just taking the required steps. It seems to me their intentions are clear and set. Wheeler had this all figured out back when the FCC lost against Verizon in court. He didn't want to fight the ruling and knew where he intended to go, and now here we are.
  15. It looks like it's even going to be built into a church steeple? Seriously, "low frequency radiation"?????? Oh, and I bet they'd all chip in to help do a fundraiser. Are they going to do one every month for eternity? Cause thats how long the money will be rolling in if the tower is built.
  16. What benefit, exactly, do you believe IPv6 brings to the table for a website like s4gru, or any website for that matter? It's just version obsession. It's hardly that simple. LTE brings bonafide real world advantages to cell phone data networks. Tangible and identifiable advantages. The average joe will immediately *feel* a difference with LTE and many other "new technologies." What tangible benefit is there to IPv6 vs. IPv4 to you or the average joe? IPv6 exists only because there aren't even addresses in the IPv4 world, it's like..... adding a new area code because you've run out of phone numbers. It solves only a problem here or there, but creates new ones.... Massive new ones. Anyhow, to more specifically answer your question, I'd imagine Robert can't even tell you when it will happen for s4gru.com. This site is hosted at IP.Board and it would be simply up to them when they transition to IPv6. As far as all the users here and on their other boards.... You'll notice no difference.

  18. There are endless reasons why your speeds may be slow. I was down by the tower earlier today and it was just fine. The server you're testing from may be overloaded. The route the data takes over the internet may have a router in it's path that is slow. Your phone may not quite be up to it. And a vast number of other reasons. The internet is just not that siimple, that a speed test is going to determine that a tower has some sort of problems. The tower could also be very heavily burdened atm with all the new people in Fairfield just recently realizing they have LTE and doing endless speedtests. To be clear, the tower isn't meant to serve people sitting right under it. Antennas have radiation patterns, and those patterns are designed so that they spread out in a way that makes sense for the people who need to use that tower. Also, having a signal that is too strong (even though I can't guarantee this) is likely not the best when the system is designed for a certain median signal.
  19. No, LTE is not as robust as a 3g signal. It doesn't travel as well, but it will be better than LTE on 1900.

  21. There are tons of sites already upgraded. They just need an integration tech to visit them to "turn them on." Also for samsung markets, because of incompatibilities with the legacy motorola stuff, it's quite necessary to bring up large clusters all at once for 3g. This is the reason that some sites back in the fall that were turned on inside the loop, were and still are only LTE. I think there are probably TONS of sites already upgraded. In fact, I'd imagine the majority of sites inside the 275 loop are upgrade. If folks would get out, learn to spot the samsung equipment and take quality pics to report in the in progress thread, then we'd see the truth about how many towers are already waiting for integration. Some of the purple on sensorly is B41 purple, and if you were a premiere sponsor, you'd be shocked to see all the band 41. Some in this thread would be quite happy at all the B41 just in the Hamilton/Fairfield area alone!
  22. I've been feeling like once it's starts to move, it'll move fast. If you've been watching columbus on the sponsor maps, it seems like once acceptances start going, it's moves quite a bit. I think that a lot of towers in our area are upgraded already, just waiting for acceptance. We don't really have anyone out getting proof of sites being upgraded for in progress status here in the Cincinnati market.
  23. Yeah, it would seem you'd be right and that would make sense. But conceivably if the others sign up, after 6 months they'd have to cancel as well to avoid paying. So why doesn't it specify "must opt-out" for framily plans?
  24. I don't understand this must opt-out nonsense. So I'm not on a framily plan and if I sit around and do nothing they're going to charge me 10 dollars per line for spotify if i don't opt-out? That's insanity.
  25. While that cabinet does resemble a Samsung cabinet, that tower has been LTE active since probably saturday morning. For LTE to work, the new cabinets are required. There is no scenario whereby LTE works from the old ones, and as such the new one very likely has been installed for some time, near back when I reported that tower as being "in progress." AFAIK, 800mhz doesn't use a second cabinet, it's all in one. I don't however know what happens when the old clearwire stuff is also on the same site as sprint, if that requires a new cabinet or not to upgrade the clearwire stuff. But mostly, since there are like 5 or 6 carriers on that tower, who knows. But it doesn't seem like it's sprint and without more evidence I'm going to assume it's not. It's possibly for upgrading the clearwire site, but that picture is hardly going to tell us if that's the case.
