Hi all, long time no see...

So I just ordered an S20 FE to replace my LG V30+, which is being phased out. Should have it by the end of the week.

My question is: Assuming I have a choice, what are the pros and cons of using my existing Sprint SIM versus changing over to a T-Mobile Sim. I know I'll have to make the switch some time, but hopefully I will still have options for the next six months or so.

    Thanks

    Jim

T-Mobile is now rapidly shutting down the Sprint network as the first December 31, 2021 deadline approaches.

    Time to make the switch.

Raising 2021 Merger Synergies Guidance on Continued Integration Progress

    • Expect Merger synergies of $2.8 billion to $3.1 billion
    • Approximately 50 percent of Sprint customer traffic is now carried on the T-Mobile network, 2x more than last quarter
    • Approximately 20 percent of Sprint customers have been moved to the T-Mobile network

Good results.  I wish TMUS would pay a dividend.  Its share price has been stagnant the past 6 months.

Big growth potential for the rest of ShenTel's wired and fixed wireless broadband internet.  Lots of public and private money coming to close the digital divide in their non-urban markets.

I'm a lot less skeptical than I was a few months ago about the future of the Shentel region.  Based on what I've seen in this area, almost every non-co-located Sprint site now seems to be running the 312250 PLMN, implying they're all "keep" sites.  I would expect similar in the Shentel region, so presumably they would be keeping the network together.

Of course, I'll believe it when I see it.  You never know when it comes to the more rural areas.  I would like to see Shentel leave the Network Vision panels in place with PCS on them, and add a 600/700 panel to each site.  Cheap and easy.  Where extra capacity is needed, like Charlottesville, swap the Network Vision panel for an AWS/PCS panel and add 2.5 GHz panels.  Instant top-quality network throughout the region.

But in any event, since the sale hasn't gone through yet, as long as you aren't on ROAMAHOME and haven't swapped out your SIM for a T-Mobile one, you should still be on the Shentel network and little should have changed.  I assume there will be an investor call in the next week or two which may or may not have information in it about the progress.  Last one was in early November, so we're due soon.

Hopefully a good investor call.  I bought shares in SHEN last Friday at $39.

How do you like the phone JimBob? I'm thinking about picking one up. Any big issues you don't like? I was gonna wait for the LG Velvet but no face unlock on that one hurts. I know 2D face unlock isn't very secure but it's almost a must have for me.

    I am highly satisfied.

Why does average America need more than 100 mbps??  Really?    It's called technology advancement.    Why do we need 707 Hp cars? Model T's and VW Bugs with 48hp still did the job.  Why do we need flat screen HDtvs when the old 480p big box picture tube ones worked?       Not a worthy rebuttal.   T-Mob needs to turn up the gas.  Fix the outages on the east coast. (Maryland, PA, Virginia..)...

Apple still does not even have any 5G iPhones yet.  They were also late to 3G and 4G, but yet still sell the most phones at the most profit every year.

Successful companies will give the market what people want to buy.

Don't buy into all the Pep-rally ...    Capex is only slight ahead of last year at this time.  Should be higher if you're really building up the network.    Gotta read the numbers first and turn the volume down on Mike and Neville with their Magenta pom-poms.    2H 2020 Capex is going to near 6.7B. (it's less than 4.7B 1st half..on par with last year.) That's better but still not if you want to be playing with the big guys.   AT&T and Verizon both are looking at Capex numbers approaching over 20B each.     I agree with the derrph above... ok, you're 2nd in size with subscribers, but until you have the network fixed you have to spend some money.   I routing hard for T-Mobile, but my service and many others aren't great.     Many of my friends with 5G phones are only getting fair speeds that would be equal to what LTE could provide. (less than 100mbps)    That needs to change... quickly.

    Sounds like a niche criticism.

Why does the average American need more than 100mbps cellular speeds while mostly stuck at home on WiFi in the middle of a pandemic?

The industry-record subscriber gains seem to indicate that T-Mobile is investing in the right services at the right value for what most consumers need right now.

  8. The following worked from a google search.  The screen still dims, but at least it doesn't totally timeout.

If it's sufficient for you to only keep screen on when charging, you can turn on the Stay awake option in Developer options.

    To do this:

    1. Open Settings, navigate to About [device] (tablet, phone etc.)
    2. Find Build number entry there. If there's none, it may be in Software information subsection.
    3. Tap Build number 7 times
    4. Make sure that a message pops up saying that you've become a developer (or that developer mode is already enabled)
    5. Go back to Settings main menu
    6. Find the newly-appeared Developer options item
    7. Turn on Stay awake option

Random question, but I see that Sprint is selling the Oneplus 8 5G. Will this phone still be good in the future after the merger ? I saw some of the earlier 5G phones on Sprint are being disconnected as T-Mobile is moving forward. I wouldn't want to get a phone that is obsolete in less than 12 months.

The OnePlus 8 phone is good post-merger.

The first 5G phones such as the Galaxy S10 are obsolete.
