  1. I have a friend who went to MWC and she played with the S9. Her comments were it felt cheap which has me a little worried, I hope that isn't the case. But then again she worked at Nokia who built solid phones. I guess only time will tell.

“We have also made the decision to manage the business at a higher churn rate,” Claure explained. “We're selectively managing higher ARPU subs in our base, as they do not have access to our more aggressive offers. And some are above our competitor rate for unlimited plans. We're comfortable using this strategy as it creates more enterprise value to have a higher churn than to write down our base. We also see some churn pressure from leasing, but would believe that the total economics of leasing more than compensates for higher churn level.”

Interesting take on this. What's everyone's thoughts?

  3. If my work with Government is any indicator, keep them out of wireless networks. As someone previously stated, they are way to slow at making a decision. A great example is a couple years ago we needed to upgrade some hardware for a clients cctv system. This client is a government entity and they had to go through the IT department. It took like 18 months to approve something this miniscule. I could easily see the federal government taking even longer to create a national standard. While the idea is enticing, I believe it would hurt our country overall. Besides, you would greatly hurt competition if the government paid and built it.

Anyone else see this?  I wouldn't have assumed National Geographic to be a sensible place for wireless advertising, personally.

I find it interesting when Marcelo mentioned we won't need 6G since 5G is more software base than previous generations.

I wonder how aggressively Sprint plans to swap out the Clearwire equipment as part of its CapEx surge. DC’s downtown core could really benefit from Massive MIMO. I’ll have to check out the Macy’s too!

Good find. I’ll keep an eye on that page too.

Sprint has really thrown down the gauntlet for this year’s “Big Game” in Minneapolis: http://newsroom.sprint.com/network-big-game.htm

    ......and those upgrades are permanent!

The preparation for the Presidential Inauguration in January 2017 seems like it was the last large scale CapEx surge for DC: http://newsroom.sprint.com/sprints-dc-network-ready-to-support-great-american-tradition-presidential-inauguration.htm

Here’s how Sprint prepared for the Pope to visit DC (and elsewhere) before that: http://newsroom.sprint.com/preparing-for-pope-francis.htm

    And here’s the after-action report: http://newsroom.sprint.com/capturing-and-sharing-the-pope-francis-visit.htm

Perhaps we need a “Big Game” in DC! :D

I wonder even with all the upgrades if they will still have COW's; though it doesn't sound like they need it.

I want the fingerprint scanner in the front, under the screen.  :-)

There are rumors that will be the case for the note 9; though I've also heard they're having reliability issues with that technology.

Today, Ottendorfer said Sprint makes use of roughly 60 MHz of spectrum with 2x2 MIMO and 64 QAM across three sectors. He noted that Sprint has already tweaked several of those figures in order to reach LTE speeds approaching 1 Gbps. And in Sprint’s LTE network evolution Ottendorfer said the carrier can potentially—partly through the application of its massive trove of 2.5 GHz spectrum holdings—increase those figures to 120 MHz, 64x64 MIMO (16 layers per sector carrier) and 256 QAM to reach theoretical peak speeds of up to 6 Gbps

That's insanity, even theoretically. Will be interesting to see if they can even get anywhere near that.

This would be a smart strategy.  I would add:  Concentrate initially on densely populated areas with good ROI potential.  Generate a great reputation in those markets and combine it with great marketing.

It’s basically borrowing a page from the T-MOBILE playbook.

Then, when the cash starts flowing, build out the rest of the network.

While good idea I bet people will say Sprint just copied T-Mobile and that will not help them.

And no call... Just a note from management. That is strange, especially at such a precarious time for Sprint.

Tells me that the announcement of the merger is close at hand.

I agree with you snake. There were reports of them wanting to wait until each company reported their fiscal quarter before a move happened (though we may still need to wait until T-Mobile gives theirs before we see any action)
