  1. And look how fast Samsung has done even a larger scope of work in each market in the 4th rounders. Although I think you may have highlighted an Ericsson problem. :)

Many would call it a Sprint problem for not cracking the whip. Fire them, I am sure Samsung would gladly send in their crews to clean up the mess Ericsson has made.

  2. Does anyone know why it seems like 3g is getting more work than lte right now, shouldn't have 3g been like that in the beginning?

Just the way Ericsson does things. Do the 4g one day, come back later and do the 3g another, then roll back and do the 800 stuff later.

Better than nothing as we haven't really seen them installing new cabinets or other upgrades of legacy. They have quite a few 4g only sites to go.

  3. Johnny Legere is double talking this. Basically saying that Sprint has spectrum but can't build out a network to utilize it, but then saying that his team could fix it.

There is truth to some of this. A couple sites with Tmobile and Sprint I saw Tmobile whip in, thrown the cabinets, NSN RRUs, new antennas while Sprint is still legacy there and not even NV 3g at least.

  4. Thanks for the help.

I will try TWRP, as I prefer it as well.

Would the preferred method of changing recoveries be to use Philz to flash the TWRP zip, or the Odin method?

    Thanks again for your help.

Others have been saying that Philz 6.07.9 works well and has no problems with restoring 4.3 backups.  I would just flash any recovery updates in recovery as it is just a simple flash to the recovery partition.  As always, test your zips.

  5. I Know.....  I'm just afraid that I'll brick the device.  The wait shouldn't be too much longer.

If you are afraid it will brick then do not accept the update as the manual method is the same exact method that your phone does when it gets the update.  And since everything is signed, if one bit of the ZIP file is changed the whole process bails and says nope, bad download, not doing it, reboots back to the OS.

  6. That's completely awesome. Shentel will be lighting up 800 LTE here in the Harrisburg area soon. At that point I will re-activate the G2 and see how Sprint will kick Verizon's butt with their densely populated towers.

I still don't understand why you guys don't just manually apply it. Literally minutes to do. No rooting.. No modding. Never waited for an update on any of my Android devices since day one.

  7. Just in-case anyone was curious as I was... I spoke to a Sprint rep tonight via chat and found out that even though my G2 is currently not activated it still will indeed receive the ZVA update over WiFi.

I was on chat for another reason and I thought I'd pose the question...

Yes, almost any Android phone will update as long as an active Google account is on the device and it has access to check the Internet.

  8. hey i know i add to this as well....

but do you shake your head sometimes??

i know i do on some other forums for my work....

and like i said, i add to asking questions to.....

Nah... My neck is wore out from shaking my head at other things.

  9. Thanks digiblur.

I downloaded the APK file, unzipped it and extracted the 3 Accuweather APK's.

When I click on them and try to install them it says "X Aplication not installed".

    Am I doing somehitng wrong?

You'll need to put them in the ZIP system/app folder before flashing, or use a root file manager to put them in this folder.

It either has the option for Samsung text -to-speach engine or Google text -to-speach engine

I tried both but no microphone.

Install Google Search from the Play Store.

  10. I dislike plugging things in so much I use Bluetooth headset at the gym (that place that sells fried chicken ;) ).  Like digiblur I only plug in my Nexus when I need to transfer a big file or lots of files.

Digiblur, do you have any heating issues with the Nexus 5 and the Tylt charger?  I have read that some people have issues with that, I personally have not but I did find that if I charge landscape that it does seem a lot cooler (25 C as opposed to between 35 and 40 C).

I haven't noticed anything.  I just throw it down and pick it up in the morning.  The case is a bit warmer but that's to be a expected, nothing crazy.  I haven't installed any app to look at the temp.

  11. What's this gym thing you speak of?  Do they serve fried chicken??   :fingers:

    Robert

And I was going to put "those things you use at the gym...oh wait..nevermind.." :)   Speaking of that..  every time I come back from the gym passing the Popeye's and Raising Canes with the windows and sun roof open creates a huge temptation that is hard to resist!

  12. What are headphones?  I only use bluetooth streaming to my car.  Otherwise, I don't use headphones at all.  I have met one charger that was too big though.

    Robert

No bluetooth on my Pioneer deck but the 16gb micro SD card works well for that and no phone to mess with.  Headphones are those things you use at the gym and used for while at work so I don't have to listen to people talking to themselves, trying to be stealth in their burping and farting, etc.

A few years ago I bought 20 of these cables after they kept walking off.  I hated the short cables they included with device chargers so I have them everywhere.  Great cables except for with that one case of course.  Of courese now with my Tylt wireless charger I never plug the Nexus5 into anything except in that rare case I need to transfer a big file.

  13. I have the same case. Love it.

Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

I returned that case since most of my headphones and line in wires wouldn't fit.  A lot of my USB cables wouldn't either.  Ended up with the Seidio Dilex case since I needed the clip anyways for bike rides and other outdoor activities where leaving the phone in the pocket isn't an option.

  14. Ok, thanks amcferrin90, I'll do this next time.

I allready went ahead and installed it this morning before I saw your reply. It seems to be working just fine.

Only thing I notticed is that it's missing the stock weather and clock widget.

I really liked this widget, is there any way to get this back?

Also, it's still a bit laggy I was hoping it was a little faster like it used to be before they ruined the phone with that last major update.

First post has any APKs that were removed.

  15. Thanks for the update.  What is the BSR timer and what should the "ideal value" be?

BSR = Better Service Reselection.  I'm not sure if it applies in the LTE world, but in CDMA only its the timer that kicks in when your device is not on the highest priority in your geographic area.  In other words, its how aggressive the device is to search for Sprint signal when roaming.

  16. That is the factor that most people are forgetting. As more sites come onair in clusters, and are optimized with tilt and direction, we will see a better experience.

I wish this were true in all markets. It's just the known fact that 5mhz isn't cutting it in many places regardless of being a 100% LTE area. Band 26 will help a bit but that band 41 build out is needed quickly in many areas but that is a ways away for many.

  17. Status update for the New Orleans market January 2014:

    Known RRU/Cabinet installs: 1

    4G acceptances: 3

3G acceptances (adds to existing 4G only sites): 17

    1x800 acceptances: 0

Completion Estimations based on Jan-2014 completion rates:

    RRU Install - 4/17/2016
    3G Accepted - 9/20/2014
    4G Accepted - 2/8/2015
    1x800 Accepted - 3/1/2104

  18. There are unknowns that may be included with the Official 4.3 update. We can't say what those are as we don't have those details, but to ensure a complete ROM we recommend the 4.3 bootloader, but the choice is yours.

  19. I feel for ya..

The site serving my house, and much of southern Springfield, MO is have the eCSFB issue. I used to get *some* LTE coverage in/around my house and the south side of town. Ever since that site came online, it kicks you off LTE most everywhere. And you can't open a ticket. That's one of the nice things about being in a launched market.

I open tickets all the time on LTE sites in launched markets, have them pin point the site, email Dan@Sprint.com, etc.  I checked about 6 or 7 of them today that have been out for a few weeks.  The majority of them are still broken.
