  1. So I just applied for this position.. Since I'm not engineering I think it will be a long shot but I know some people on here may be interested in something like this so I thought I would post about it. I feel like the majority of us on here could do very well in this position.

I see my comments about intern's over the past year or so have been spot on ;)

  2. I wonder if rf issues have to do with market/vendor. Besides the CSFB issue I experienced the first 2 days, the rf on my G2 has been ridiculous. I get LTE in places that my Evo would roam and hold LTE inside concrete and metal buildings. As far as speed, check Sensorly speedtests in the St Augustine area. I have logged plenty of 20-35 mbps speed tests. I've had fringe signal speeds of 10 mbps at -118 dBm. I remember when the G2 first came out, lots of people here went on about how great the rf performance was. I am not sure what has changed to give so many the opposite results with the G2.

Well a tin can a string would be better than the EVO LTE RF performance ;)  A CSFB issue is a yes/no type deal.  Nothing to do with signal strength.  When the device attempts to auth with the site it asks if CSFB is available, if not the device says no thanks and switches to 3G.

  3. Enables spark icons, dose that mean we get that Sun string spinning around? Edit, also anyone else notice when the update was released? 1/27/13...... haha Sent from my LG G2 on the Now Network

Yep, the Walmart icon is coming to your device soon!

So glad the Nexus5 won't have that eyesore.

  4. I'm sure someone will get the update.zip and/or google OTA server link.  Then hopefully someone will be nice to post the instructions here on how to manually update to cut out all the complainers that didn't get it yet along with their location of where they didn't get it. ;)

  5. There is no subsidies. After 12 payments out off the 24 you can give back the phone and stop paying on it. Then you start paying on a new phone.

Subsidies will be gone by mid march but from the way things are going i wouldn't be surprised if it was sooner than what they have been telling us.

That's the part that gets me.. It's like doing a voluntary repo so you can get into debt again with another. Is there any penalty for paying it off, keeping your equity, and getting another?

  6. Did that shortcut to the debug thing get baked in?

And it probably won't due to the issue I was having with pre-installing SL4A.  I'll just update the guide to call the script as root and let people do it on their own as it only takes a few minutes.

  7. So I know this phone is very popular with the technically inclined crowd. But how about those that are less technical? Would this be the best tri-band phone to recommend to family and friends?

Yes, I will probably get another N5 when the time comes for the wife. Simple and just works which means no support from me.

  8. EXCEPT phone wont connect with airrave for calls when 4g is enabled, if i force to 3g its perfect. I am topography challenged from the tower (on hill, so above tower 1 mi away) so that may be the issue... phoned sprint and they say its phone not connecting with airrave due to technology/switching. (basically a get him off the line response). They said to just force to 3g when i get home to solve the problem, but how does that solve anything when i have to constantly be switching? I have forced the other 2 phones to stay in 3g just to have better voice signals at homes. I skimmed the posts and didn't see anything about this, is anyone familiar with the issue?

Yep, that's the fix. I had the same issue on my N5. The weak LTE connection causes the calls to attempt to use the regular tower which of course does not work. Toggling to 3g only when at home is the only answer until either 1x improves at your home site, Sprint releases an Airave with LTE and CSFB, or wifi calling is rolled out to the device.

  9. I don't swapping efs partitions is a good idea if that's what your thinking. It contains specific info for your device.

Correct.. do NOT switch EFS partitions with another phone.  You'll end up with mismatched phone serials and such.

Now there is one thing that is cool about the EFS, that's where the PRL is stored.  Backup just the EFS for each PRL you may want and just restore the EFS when you want that PRL.  All without QPST or a PC.  Just remember to redo your backups after the next modem/OS update.

  10. Hey guys,

Well this morning I got the infamous text about the new network being largely completed over the next month in my area... I call BS on this as i'm located on the Clearfield/Layton border and as we all know north of north salt lake there is no new network as of yet... that i know of... infact i just ran a 3g speed test yesterday and its still dial up speeds so....

Does anyone know what factors decide who gets these texts? is it based off of where your number is located or your billing address or what? My number has been ported into sprint and is based out of kaysville, so unless they can magically flip a switch in the next month i'm not buying it!

EDIT: I've read a few posts where others have gotten the text and within 48hrs they have lost service... so maybe something well happen... here's hoping.

The text went out to just about everyone in some weird random fashion.  It was purely a marketing thing and had nothing to do with the area.

  11. It included a .tot file that was flashed in a similar way that Odin works on Samsung phones.  Put the G2 into download mode - restored it, and problems still persist.  Something happened to my device and it had corrupted my EFS partitions so the device literally doesn't know its own IMEI, or MDIN, or ESN from one partition and the other one is radio settings so I'm unable to turn WiFi on.  I'm literally 100% stock at this point, but without the EFS partitions, the phone is a brick.  It's crazy because it just happened randomly while I was out.  Data dropped, went home to restore my Stock-Rooted backup, problem still there.  Then I did the full 100% stock recovery via .tot file, and problem still there.

I was just telling a new root/recovery user on the N5 today to make a copy of just their EFS and copy it to the a safe place off of the device.  Your story reminds me to do it again since some things have changed in my EFS since I've done it.

  12. I tried that restore to stock zip and the problem carried over. I can't root again, the device doesn't let me get that far. It'll boot and screen is 100% unresponsive, then reboots after 15 seconds.

No TAR to just start over fresh?

  13. I'm thinking the TB restores you all have done is causing issues. I only recently installed Google search and was able to get to recent apps before.

Might have to get one of you guys to backup your data partition, wipe it, and test the recent apps button without Google Search to make sure.  In the meantime I'll trace down the live wallpaper thing.

  14. There's probably a method within the hidden dialer settings but there's no toggle under network mode on stock ROM. I get good lte in most areas but it is cool to force 1x now.

Does SCP still show the LTE PCI and GCI?
