the Verge article sort of backs up what many here have voiced as concern for a very long time now! Yet the ruling class still rebukes it - interesting.
I will say The Verge article isn't exactly well written nor researched to be the proverbial smoking gun! Rather it has some hints of being comminshed by Sprint, T-Mobile or Softbank... honestly that is fine too as long as T-Mobile is allowed to buy Sprint and finally put that spectrum to good use! Especially if TMO can build out 2.5 as fast as they did with 600!
We all win!

Imho the magic box is beyond stupid....
Just let Neville fix this and it’ll be amazing.

I think they should tell him to go suck an egg! 60 MHz is a lot of spectrum... isn't it nearly half of what they have in the 2500 MHz band? (150 MHz total)... Why does he think he's entitled to it? What about the other MVNO's?
I thought Sprint has 240mhz
Any event I say this is brilliant, and assume this is a nice way to keep the spectrum in the family vs selling to ATT

“AND soon”....
I wonder what the device cutoff will be by brand.
iPhone 6 and subsequent models support VoLTE.
Interesting as I don’t see how volte could be used currently... oh and welcome to the past ha.

And yet TMO with that smaller amount of spectrum will be a couple years ahead of where Sprint will be.
Can't wait to see what Neville and his team can do with the jackpot of 2.5ghz Sprint has.

I recall some regular posters here, I think even Robert too. Mentioned TMO and Neville wouldn't be able to get 600mhz up too quickly.T-Mobile is moving along quite rapidly on the 600 MHz rollout: https://www.t-mobile.com/news/extended-range-lte-puerto-rico (June 6, 2018)
“The Un-carrier today unveiled that it has now lit up 600 MHz Extended Range LTE in more than 900 cities and towns across 32 states, bringing T-Mobile LTE coverage into 120 places for the very first time. Now, T-Mobile will bring 600 MHz Extended Range LTE to Puerto Rico this fall, providing more LTE coverage and capacity than ever before and laying the foundation for 5G with 5G-ready equipment.”
Sprint had the finances to spend on overhauling retail stores, buying Radio Shack stores and doing the Carfone Warehouse experiment, none of which was necessary. This money should have gone towards 600 MHz.
The “600 MHz ecosystem” part is already happening. These devices support it:
LG G7 ThinQ[emoji769]
LG K30[emoji769]
LG V30[emoji769]
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active
Samsung Galaxy S9
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
——————
Apple will likely have a 600 MHz compatible iPhone this fall as well.
As we all know, Sprint’s 800 MHz also has very limited capacity versus T-Mobile’s 600 MHz. Even 10-15 MHz of 600 MHz deployed across Sprint’s footprint would have meant low band spectrum across the country, including in areas that 800 MHz isn’t yet available or very limited. I’m not exactly sure when the 800 MHz rebanding is finally going to finish up, but let’s say it takes another year or two. Where do you think T-Mobile will be with its 600 MHz deployment at that point?
Furthermore, even with 2.5 GHz fully deployed with sufficient capex spend in in the last year or two, Sprint has said in its FCC Filing that’s not enough for a competitive national footprint.
Seems Neville has basically brought up a new infrastructure in less than 16 months.

There's a news article out that states that Sprint has ties with the Chinese phone manufacturer https://www.tmonews.com/2018/07/u-s-lawmakers-security-concerns-t-mobile-sprint-merger-sprints-ties-huawei/

Correct -- but thats Sprint... I believe TMO was planning on Nokia for 5G

Huh?Well also think that Sprint has ties to a Chinese phone manufacturer so the deal is going to really be scrutinized very carefully. If they aren't willing to make a sacrifice with the phone manufacturer then the government may put the kibosh on the deal.

what about improvements to overall network expansion and improvement within their foot print? i m waiting to see if that happens...sprint would be a better option for me if they improved over all coverage inside my town...still roaming holes and pockets of no service....sprint has improved band 41 coverage on the main high way but overage network coverage off the main highway leaves alot to be desired..
My towns have appeared to regress...

Instead of having two plans, they should have offered HD streaming as a $10 add-on option. With these two plans, an entire family has to buy HD if only one person wants it.
Also, I hope they are including taxes and fees in these new plans. Because if they aren't, then Sprint is selling a Kia Sorento at Chevrolet Corvette prices. A family of four would have $10 worth of Admin Fees added to the bill each month. Then add taxes & fees and Unlimited Basic could be anywhere between $15-25 more a month than T-Mobile.
I agree. But flipside I actually like the all in plans or save you money plan. I’d imagine it’s easier for the salesperson and shopper.
But I do like how VZW mix and match works (though you don’t really save much)
Idk [emoji52]

Though to be honest Sprint is competing with ATT more with these plans. By including Hulu and tidal. Granted not as good to some as what ATT is including. But it’s something. Where as I don’t believe Verizon gives you any bonus media streams at all.
Good job Sprint

If taxes and fees included I'd switch. But I highly doubt it.
These prices are close to Vzw prices.

Yup... Most stuff we knew but didn't want to believe - well some didn't...They have begun to go down this road already. During the committee hearing, Sprint admitted that their 5G will be limited to some urban areas due to money constraints (and within those urban areas, 5G coverage won't be available everywhere). They also admitted to have haulted meaningful investments on their network for the past few years.
It looks like Sprint isn't scared to let the dirt out in order to get this deal done.
Any info on when they expect to to close the deal? I assume regulatory concerns are minimal... or back room deals already done.
It'll be a good day.

Hopefully magenta covers over yellow entirely.I'm here to put ice water on the creeping into negativity. No more feelings. Stick to facts, and stop picking a fight with everyone who has a different opinion than you. If people who have a Pro Sprint opinion can't voice them here without being bludgeoned, where can they go?
S4GRU will be much more heavily moderating as necessary. We are not here to host all your Sprint complaints. Lots of places for you to go post your Sprint negativity. Effective immediately.

Basically the two companies pitched that with out a merge they would both fail. What are you referring to?

I suspect (might have already been talked to death here looking). But I suspect SoftBank is reading the Sirrus and XM playbooks front to back.

How would the merger affect this bet?
Based on what we heard from Marcelo’s statements to Congress about the economics involved for deploying 5G on 2.5 GHz nationwide, sounds like Neville was on to something.
The fact that it seems Neville (as much as folks here loved to slam him) gets stuff done and delivered.

To add...
Plus it seems like no matter how far Sprint comes. It always appears - next 12-18 months it'll be addressed.

My guess would be the Samsung S10....
Hopefully real progress is being made in the network beyond this recent update...
http://newsroom.sprint.com/triband-upgrades.htm
We now have 2.5 GHz deployed on roughly 60% of our macro sites and expect to complete the substantial majority of our tri-band upgrades by the end of fiscal 2018.
Hearing that we’re the better part of a year away from having 2.5 GHz on a “substantial majority” of sites feels like a really long time...
Especially if what I'm seeing is occurring in more areas too. I've been seeing 3g as much as during the Vision roll out. It's bad...

Hopefully the LTE connectivity is a lot better than the 11.4 update.
Sadly I jinxed myself I think. Ten minutes after sending that post. My X was on 3g :-(

That’s good to know!
Perhaps there will be an additional performance boost when the new iPhone finally gets HPUE this year as well as 600 MHz support for Roaming on T-Mobile... and then for when our magenta overlords actually take over. [emoji853]
I highly doubt the new iPhone support will include either HPUE nor 600mhz. Though the latter is a higher probability. I’m doubtful T-Mobile has enough users to warrant it back last year.

Not much time yet on carrier 32.5.38 (public iOS 12)
But LTE performance appears stronger.

Were contracts ever really removed? Just moved from the phone service and added as a device finance charge wth 24 months to pay.
But it did lessen the cost of phone service! So that’s good!
Above doesnt look too bad - half of the price of the phone Paid upfront with no monthly fees
