That’s good to hear. Have you tested how weak (dBm-wise) LTE signal can get before dropping to CDMA while on a VoLTE call? I believe you can see dBm values updated every second or so in the Intel field test...

I know that my signal at my house for Sprint LTE isn’t the strongest, but it’s decent. Can use data without WiFi. So far the worst dead spot for VoLTE is my bathroom. I’m using WiFi calling in my house. I’ll have to see if I’ll drop calls from WiFi calling to VoLTE later when I get off work.

You don't drop to CDMA and carryover a VoLTE call. It goes from VoLTE to no service, and the call drops.

    That’s what I thought.

Thanks for the response. The 7/Plus are still great phones, but I guess I'll have to upgrade her to an 8... sigh.

Has your friend gotten a new battery from Apple yet? They're replacing batteries for $29 until the end of the year. Sounds like a battery issue to me.

Yep. Got the new battery on both of her 6S' earlier this year. The one phone is shot.

Posters on Reddit are suggesting that due to Sprint's implementation of VoLTE (not sure of the technical details), VoLTE will not be available on pre-2017 devices. I would think the iPhones at least would share the same software implementation of VoLTE so I'm having a hard time understanding why an iPhone 7 wouldn't be as capable as an iPhone 8 of VoLTE. I'm certainly hoping it will be available on the 7 - that's what my wife is using on Sprint. Also anxiously awaiting the ability for her to roam on T-Mo on the 7.

The problem you have is software implementation on the network side is different than device. Too many different factors to consider. Maybe Sprint feels that all iPhone's pre-2017 wouldn't benefit from VoLTE due to antennas, or maybe too much of a resource drag on the network side. Unfortunately Sprint hasn't given any reasons publicly why they aren't allowing the 7/Plus and the 6S/Plus. They are still very capable devices that have a decent lifespan left for them. As for my friends 6S though. There is seriously something wrong with it. I'm probably moving her to my iPhone X this weekend. Her phone shut down yesterday mid day with 10% left on the battery. It's used as a business device so we have to keep it working properly.

I'm glad to see someone say this (particularly from a completely different part of the country) so I know its not just me - though in SCP its labeled as Clearwire B4 vs. TMo here for some reason.  Note, this is only at home, at work or transit in between I never hit B4.

Also, my wife and I had to disable network push of phone time because of this, because when connecting to the B4 LTE carrier it kept adding several hours to the legitimate time (I actually was way late to work one morning because of this too. ? )

On my iPhone XS Max, Bands 2 & 4 LTE shows up as Sprint native service on the device, but in Field Test Mode you know it's T-Mobile because the MCC MNC is 310 260. So it never actually states that it's T-Mobile except for the MCC MNC.

And yes, my phone kept jumping 5 hours behind and back.

    Darn!,

Could the carrier bundle be out of date with the 6S?

No, same carrier bundle as my XS Max. But of course, with carrier bundles, they can still disable certain bands for certain devices. Maybe once iOS 12.1 drops it’ll enable it. I sure enjoy the expanded data service.

assuming that your friends iPhone is on Sprint I believe the answer is the home labeled T-Mobile "Roaming" you are experiencing is the newer bands and I bet the friends iPhone 6(s)? does have access to those bands in their radio...

The 6S does support LTE Bands 2 & 4, which is what T-Mobile is using here.

Just received my Magic Box, it's working fine for my iPhone X but my other iPhone 5 running ios10.3.3 doesn't connect to get full LTE service.  There isn't much helpful info out there to try and resolve it myself. I updated the network setting on the iPhone 5 but that didn't help. ANy suggestions? or is it a phone issue?

    Magic Box broadcast's it's service on B41 LTE. iPhone 5 and 5S are not capable of B41, only 25 & 26(iPhone 5S only).

You should receive Verizon error messages if you place a bad call over their network...this may be the best way to verify if you’re connected to their CDMA network for voice.

True. I’ll have to give it a try next time I go to Vegas.

Is this always or only when you have a Sprint 1x connection?

Is there any word on the timeline for this?

I would also assume that VoLTE will launch on all VoLTE-capable iPhones at the same time since they are all capable of using the same carrier bundle...I guess we’ll see soon.

I haven’t seen Extended in my phone for days. When I was going to Vegas yesterday I didn’t pay attention to my phone in the roaming area of the road to see if I was on T-Mobile LTE and Verizon 1x. I’ll have to keep checking. Of course, without CDMA engineering screens on the XS Max, it sure makes it harder to see.

Does the phone show 'Sprint' as the carrier, while it is on T-Mobile LTE?
    Verified by the debug menu?

The iPhone Xs/XsM are the next phones to get VoLTE I hear, NV market is to launch today (Friday) do report back how that goes.

I’ll keep an eye out for the launch of VoLTE. When I’m on T-Mobile LTE, my phone shows Sprint as the carrier. Non of my data used on T-Mobile has gone on my Roaming allotment, it’s all been native according to MySprint.

  11. Well, my worst dead spot is gone for data thanks to T-Mobile roaming. Now hopefully soon VoLTE will hit the Vegas market and iPhones, and I’ll be good to go. I wish I could say the same thing about my friends iPhone 6s’. They don’t have T-Mobile roaming. It’s odd.

The phone seems to latch onto LTE and won’t let go. It will show no bars of LTE pretty often. Sometimes it’s usable sometimes it’s not. I’m rarely ever on 3g unless I turn off LTE in settings when it’s holding on to a useless signal.

My phone likes to latch onto LTE all the time too. I think it could be a good thing. Hopefully service increases soon too.

Someone just posted a screen shot of 40mbs upload on Sprint through 15x15 B25. Ive personally seen as high as 21mbs on B41 here with CA. So nothing particularly special.

When your norm is 4-6 Mbps peak, 16+ is welcomed!

I got 14 up on 10x10 B25 this morning. Of course, that's really close to the site with little obstruction and the least used sector on the site.

I got an iPhone xs on Friday upgrading from a 6s and I’ve noticed a slightly worse cellular signal and WiFi strength. A little disappointing. I was in north east Missouri (in normally a us cellular roaming area) and I looked to see what band I’m on and it said I was on band 71. Has T-Mobile started deploying in Missouri already? Anyway is it likely apple will continue to tweak the modem in future updates or it is what it is?

iOS updates include bug fixes and can include baseband updates to optimize Modem performance.

Have you already installed iOS 12.0.1 which was just released?

Yes, if you haven't updated to 12.0.1, please do so promptly. It fixed A LOT of my weak signal issues and my hard data drops I was experiencing, and the addition of T-Mobile roaming has even been better.

T-Mobile roaming as spotted, uh, in my house in Alexandria. Have great service so not sure why since I have at least B26 throughout the house...

    - Trip

My iPhone spends more time on T-Mobile B4 than it does on Sprint B26 or B25 now. It’s wild and I don’t get it. I had decent B26 at my house.

Have been reading on reddit that foilks roaming are seeing the same thing (time zone changes.)  Pretty wild.

Yeah, it is. So after I reset my time zone it’s working better and not switching.
