Josh, hush! AT&T might hear you say that. And my ears cannot stand anymore bitching and moaning from Ma Bell.
AJ
Then I hope the FCC comes in and shuts Ma Bell down and splits them up again!
-
I hope that the FCC will give them preference for bidding on the H-block, and they may just do that. In fact, they should just give it to Sprint and not even auction it off.

No sites in the Atlanta market have 3G NV upgrades live yet. None. Zero. Zilch. Only LTE enhancements live so far in Atlanta/Athens area.
On another note, 1xAdvanced can be deployed for capacity/signal strength gains or speed gains, not both. So if Sprint deploys 1xAdvanced for maximum capacity, speeds stay right around 144kbps maximum.
Robert
Hopefully we won't lose 3G signal as much with NV.

I didn't even think of that, 12mm thick for a device with a hardware keyboard is pretty awesome, only if it had a higher resolution though.
Higher resolution would be nice. I haven't noticed the low resolution much on my Evo Shift, so it doesn't bother me too much. I sure noticed it against the E4GT though.

How fast is 2G and 1G on NV?
I don't see us using 2G for data much after NV is complete, but I do remember that 1X Advanced is faster than current 1XRTT. 1G networks don't exist anymore as they were shut down in 2008 when AMPS was turned off.

So only about 66KBps for 3G? I figured the NV upgrade would be better than that, unless it was just a 4G upgrade. I remember 4-5 years ago when I could get 75-90KB (not Kb) in my small area off 3-4 bars via EVDO. Those 4G speeds are hot though. Can't wait for them to start working on the Charlotte market!
I don't think that the new 3G network is up and running in the Atlanta area yet, just LTE. They should have 3G up sometime soon in that area and the speeds will be blazing compared to 66Kbps.

I don't think its hard at all. I saw an interview once where one of the sprint guys says that its a lot faster and cheaper to deploy picocells than trying to get a new tower permit.
Now if only there was broadband internet in my neighborhood at home, I could petition Sprint to deploy a picocell in my area. That would be great for cell service on my street.
-
I wonder if the next gen femtocell will have self-diagonstics - testing speeds/latency/jitter. If it fails, the femtocell will blink red and not operate.
That could be a possibility. It sure would help for those areas that have minimal coverage due to interference from trees and other major obstacles.
-
Does Sprint have to have permits to build these picocells? And how hard would it be to get one put in a small residential neighborhood?
-
If I was a betting person, I would guess that LTE isn't "mature" enough to be deployed in femtocells @ a pricepoint that makes sense.
What's really interesting is that Sprint is attempting to go beyond just adding coverage for home users, but adding coverage to the Sprint network.
Correct hand-offs and increased capacity... it should be interesting to see how they deploy this.
That is probably the single most brilliant idea of the century. Have the femtocell users provide coverage for their surrounding areas, even if it only covers 2 or 3 houses in the neighborhood. Unless of course the next airrave has a special external antenna that mounts outside your home to boost signal to a small part of your neighborhood.

As far as I know the MSRP of 199, 299, 399 is contracted what the carriers will sell the iPhone at.
You are right. Apple set their contract up with at&t from the very beginning to determine their own price scheme for the iPhone. They then allowed carrier subsidies with the release of the 3G, but they still determined the price. With the smaller carriers that are selling the iPhone $50 cheaper than at&t/VZW/Sprint, Apple may have been more lenient with to let them sell it at a lower price point, maybe to keep competition healthy.
And even if there were no phone subsidies, the original iPhone sold like crazy at full price, so even a slightly higher priced iPhone with LTE under the hood would probably sell out in Pre-order stage too.

I have been wondering to myself if the new EVO will be the last top of the line phone for $199. I was easily expecting the EVO to go for $250(like the Epic 4G). It will be interesting to see how much Sprint charges for the Galaxy3,iPhone5 and the next variant of the Photon.
Apple determines the price for the iPhone by carrier according to all the contract info between Apple and the Carriers. But I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone does increase in price with the inclusion of LTE.

Android Police has posted a pic that might match that last device on the Sprint roadmap from April. According to the article it has a Snapdragon S4.

Could this be fake, or maybe this is our next mystery device.

I agree too. It would have really set Sprint apart from the competition.
