  1. pretty much i get to sit on my ass all night long...kinda sucks cause i gained alot of weight

Back when i was a night auditor, I used to call my girlfriend (who is now my wife) and wake her up and beg her to bring me Taco Bell.

Back in those days Taco Bell served breakfast. They had this sausage, country gravy, hash brown and egg burrito that was only 79¢. Man I loved those things when I was in college. I wish Taco Bell would bring back breakfast!

  2. not sure what you meant about being irrational. but i wasnt talking about voip' date=' just wifi calling like tmobile offers.

i was just trying to start a conversation about a subject, i guess ill try not to be "irrational" about it lol :)[/quote']

Wi-Fi calling would absolutely be voip. They just offer a free voip app because they have the worst coverage of any nationwide carrier. As I said before' date=' there are voip apps out there in the market.

Yes, WiFi calling is a form of VoIP. However, it would be a good solution for a lot of people. Not as a substitute for an Airave in the home. But its great for those workplaces where people cannot install an Airave, but they do have WiFi.

Duffman is just seeing red flags in your comment. Its all too often that someone starts out with the tone of your thread then goes into some berzerker tangent or goes into flame mode.

So definitely don't be offended by his comment, but don't go bat shit crazy on us either. ;)

  4. The biggest deal for Sprint adding service coverage through new sites is cost. Tower site leases, engineering, equipment. Sprint is not in the position to add sites at the moment.

They are only adding sites in places where either...

    A. They are spending boatloads of money on roaming fees and thus adding coverage will be cheaper

    B. They have a lot of customers already in that area and they are very vocal

Sprint is only adding approximately 50-100 sites per year currently.

However, when Sprint wants to add a site, the first thing they try to do is identify a rough location of where the site should be ideally. Then they check the databases of their tower companies (American Tower, Crown & Castle, etc.) to see if they already have a tower with space available where it is needed. If they do, and they can come up with acceptable lease terms, they then proceed with engineering, permitting and eventually equipment ordering and deployment. In the fastest track, this takes 6 months.

If there is no existing tower to work from, the costs and time it takes go up to a year or more. Because then they hire out a company to build a site that Sprint leases back. Sprint owns very few of its sites. They sold them off a few years ago.

This is just a very basic explanation. Hope it helps.

  5. When you get high up in buildings or on hill or mountains, the noise floor of your device goes way up. It can see and connect with too many sites and just keeps bouncing around. And even when it can lock onto something, there is much interference. It can can cause device chaos and crippling speeds. I have this issue when I climb mountains above Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Or when I stay in a casino in Vegas.

  6. Will the LTE 1900 band have the same building penetration issues as wimax, only slightly less since it's a slightly lower frequency? Is there more to building penetration ability than frequency?

I've learned that the upcoming LTE devices from Sprint don't support Sprint's eventual 800 band LTE. Like I've complained about in another thread, my EVO is tired and laggy and I'd like to get something a little snappier. Knowing that the first LTE devices are out of date right out of the box by not supporting the 800 band LTE, and my city won't have LTE for a while, I'm leaning towards getting a better wimax device used on craigslist and waiting to use my upgrade on a device that supports both 800 and 1900 LTE.

So who wants to sell me their Photon? :)

LTE 1900 will out perform WiMax 2500 in every way, except capacity. It will penetrate buildings better, it will be faster (not because LTE is faster than WiMax, but because of how this network is being deployed). Basically, everywhere you get 3G EVDO now, you will get LTE 1900. Eventually, when Sprint starts selling 800 LTE devices and the 800 LTE network is operating, that LTE service with Sprint will be far better in coverage and penetration than 3G EVDO at 1900 is now.

  7. I was at BB today and took a Note for a test drive. Everything about it is great until you hold it to your ear. My son said I looked stupid holding a tablet to my face. If visual phone calls were more common, it would be perfect for that.

"Dad, why are you holding a flattened brick to your head?"

  8. Well' date=' Big Reg considers NW Ohio a big enough market that I could have LTE already. Sprint may have just made my choice a little easier when my contract is up in June. I can't stand these 30-100 kbps speeds.[/quote']

Please don't flame at S4GRU. We are not that kind of board. Flaming posts are better suited for SU or Sprint community forums.

Your comment is completely a "no duh" statement. First, Verizon started its LTE deployment a year and a half before Sprint did. Second, Sprint is overhauling their entire network and replacing every piece of equipment in Network Vision. A much larger scope than what Verizon was doing.

And Sprint is scheduling it all to be complete in just over 24 months. This is actually a much more ambitious schedule than Verizon when you put it all into perspective.

We are a private forum. The tune of comments is starting to turn negative. This is contrary to what our mission is at S4GRU. You all can expect more comments like this from me in the future.

  9. I would use mine exactly the way I do now, for only those times when I urgently need to do something work related in the car or in those times I find myself in a hotel with no wifi or poor wifi.

There is usually one instance per month when I have to pull off the highway and wifi tether my phone to send an urgent work email that needs to be done from my laptop, because of an attachment, etc.
