  1. I am sure a lot of us were hoping for more. You know that Verizon is going to try and cover their existing 3G network with 4g. I just hope they change their mind about shutting down all of the Nextel sites, especially if Robert's calculation of needing only an extra 1000 sites to cover areas where they have iden but not CDMA is close.

Of course it's accurate...I'm awesome! And to prove it, here is my logic...Unicorns are awesome. I like unicorns. Therefore, because I like unicorns, I am awesome. :ty:

And even though, people may be hoping for more than 100% of the entire network getting LTE, I'm actually still just stoked that Sprint is taking it over it's entire footprint. I wouldn't have thought that as a remote possibility. Especially when you consider the WiMax deploy FAIL.

  2. Is Sprint also on the tower located at 44.99897,-93.132627?

I found it while riding my bike today. All I could see on the site were markings for AT&T/Cingular, T-Mobile, and Clearwire.

Dead to rights. Confirmed. You can see every Sprint site in the Sponsors section map area. You should become a S4GRU Sponsor today.

I would like to chime in for a tower map of the Washington DC market. I am more interested in the northern Virginia area if that matters.

I talked my brother into switching from VZW to Sprint and he has been cursing me ever since because there is a street in his neighborhood where he is guaranteed to drop a call every time. The signal in his house isn't all that great either. Never happened to him on VZW. I'm curious where his closest tower is located.

    Thanks in advance!

The Washington DC market map is now posted in the Sponsor section. Thank you for becoming a Sponsor!

I would love to see where the towers are located around downtown boston so i can keep an eye out for network vision improvements.

I drove out to the burbs looking for NV towers based on Robert's maps but had no luck finding any.

Looks like they were ready to work on this one:

I am willing to zoom in any specific site and send you a map of any complete site. Also, over in our Sponsor section, we have NV Complete Sites interactive map and Sprint market maps what show every single site. You can get access to those by becoming a sponsor.

  3. Okay fair enough...though this might still not be great in the bc you'll b able to connect to some towers and get 3G better than you can Wimax...as we all know...it'll be better with LTE yes but what about when inside and the performance of LTE has dropped more off and your 3G speed is greater than the LTE, since LTE performance drops faster over signal?

Just playing devils advocate with that last part there...

I personally am not in favor of the idea, myself. I think there are all kinds of problems with the idea. WiMax is spotty and inconsistent. I will connect to it when I want to, is my personal mantra. :)

  4. Sounds like a tad of the smithmicro deal I mentioned before and that's been discussed to death at xda trying to figure out how they will use it...

I can only assume they will do this VIA GPS meaning thatll have to be on...would like to know the learning aspect of the tool though...will it learn over time even though u may get 4G here some It's not worth the trouble trying to connect to it each time?....

It might be via GPS, or it might be Site ID that your device is connected to for 1x/EV. If your device connects to certain sites, it gets prompted to scan WiMax or WiFi. That way it still works if someone disables their GPS.

  5. No new information if you've been paying attention for the last six months though.

You mean, like paying attention to our site? :)

i just looked at the map that was on twitter and they erased some of the map key. wonder what it was.

    https://twitter.com/...0/photo/1/large

    ???

if you look right under where it has the light green box and says roaming coverage there is a space they whited out. and they cut half of the state of New York

I just realized that too. I wonder what it was.

Just to clarify, it was hastily removed from the slideshow prior to the meeting. Some people are speculating that it was shown in the actual meeting, but removed in the photo. Which is not the case. It probably was discovered at the last minute that, "Oops! We don't want people to see that."

I'm guessing it showed in the legend the green area, and defined something like "LTE coverage area with active 800 LTE/1900 LTE." And I don't think Sprint is prepared to discuss 800 LTE at this time.

  6. When are the 3rd and 4th round markets going to be released?

I don't know yet. Most likely in the Fall, should NV stay on schedule.

If Clear is going to have some 5k LTE sites up by June of 2013 and 3k sites shortly after the initial 5k....when should we hear about this starting to take place roughly?

5k sites would cover roughly anywhere from 6-8 Major Markets correct, or no? Just basing that off the numbers here where some markets are gigantic like NYC at 1100 sites and others are around 500...would think that they would of started work on these if not already then very very soon, no?

Robert do you have any contacts with Clearwire or access to their data through Sprint at all?

I do have some contacts at Clearwire. But they are much more inconsistent. They also don't seem to have much info on LTE yet. Clearwire has approx. 1,000 sites in its largest markets. 5,000 sites is approx 1/3 of their entire network. So, if they deploy completely in markets, it would be a minimum of 6 markets, but could be many more.

However, I have a feeling they will not be deploying 100% on every Clearwire site in these markets in the first round of TD-LTE. So I'm thinking its going to be more like 12 -15+ markets in the initial 5,000. But that is just a guess on my part.

hey robert i was at bbr, and found this map of what sprint expects to be their nv foot print in 2014. i really hope this is not the case, cause the network footprint looks exactly as it does now. i thought when network vision is done, their network would be similiar to verizons. anyways i thought i woulde post the link, its a picture of a map that someone posted on twitter...i will also post the link to the article.

thanks robert, and have a good morning!!!! :)

Why do you hope not? That is the entire Sprint network! Were you hoping it would be less than all of it? ;)

Hence the thread here in this section "Picture of Sprint's LTE footprint once NV rolled out"....

    http://s4gru.com/ind...-nv-rolled-out/

    :tu:

NV was supposed to be just a complete overlay of the existing native Sprint Network. At least that's what I understood it to be.

Yes. Although I wouldn't use the word overlay. It is a complete teardown and rebuilding of every "native" Sprint site into a multi-modal base station that supports new 4G LTE technology as well.

I guess it gets technical in those areas they show as "their" service but its not really like the one in west Kansas...

They do have 1x/3G native service agreements. They just do not have 4G LTE native service agreements. Because these companies don't have LTE service.

Although it would be great to have additional rural LTE coverage, it is not reasonable to think that Network Vision/LTE goes beyond Sprint's own sites. Verizon also has these types of deals with many little wireless companies. Not all of them have worked on LTE 700MHz Rural Alliance sharing deals.

Unless they let their partner carriers license their G-block and help build out the LTE network in those areas.

Agreed. I think Sprint is having these discussions now to encourage these partners to either install Network Vision type base stations, or at the least, incorporate a LTE G-Block hosting deal. Although I don't know of any specific talks.

  7. I'm not sure it has to be that way. I use Broadvoice VOIP at home and often run 200ms pings and it works great. You would think that if someone had WiFi in the 200ms ping range or better, they would be able to devise something that worked well with that.

  8. I can see why at turnover from legacy to NV, people would definitely get dropped calls and data connections. But only at one time. However, that could feel like it is all over the city when it is one tower here, then another tower there. Repeating itself over a thousand times for each tower in the market.

Also, the Chicago market will not be anywhere near done in June. So they are going to have to extend that deadline much farther out.

  9. Of course sprint gonna advertise they new lte phones but they will also have WIMAX capabilities too

Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

This is not correct. And not physically possible. The WiMax antenna runs on 2500MHz. Sprint's LTE is at 1900MHz. It's impossible. Please stop posting nonsense and confusing people. This is a warning.
