  1. I Googled the issue. When you move from one device to another, your Google Wallet does not. Even though you have the same credentials and the same Gmail account, Google Wallet sees the new device as a separate account. I called GW and they moved over the balance on my GNex account over to my new GS-III account. Problem solved. Robert
  2. Are you asking me to speculate whether C Spire will spend more or less than $60M on its deployment, or whether C Spire would spend less for Sprint to host their network? If it's the latter, Sprint cannot host their network. C Spire has many more sites in its coverage area than Sprint. Robert
  3. Thanks for your comments about your situation. It's interesting to read your observations. The iPhone has definitely added more stress to the already overburdened 3G network. However, 4G WiMax is completely unrelated to Network Vision. Clearwire runs its own Network that is completely separate from Sprint for its 4G WiMax. That being said, I'm sure that the WiMax network is getting much more usage now that the 3G network is so bad, and especially since Network Vision is causing even further chaos to the 3G network. And Clearwire will not likely add any capacity to its 4G WiMax since they are switching to LTE themselves. Robert
  4. C Spire is welcome to do deals with both Sprint and Tmo. I cannot think of any limitation why they wouldn't try to work out LTE roaming deals with both carriers. It's not like they are only allowed to do a deal with one or the other. I think the FCC would really frown on any deal with an exclusivity clause. The AlcaLu point is irrelevant, really. Robert EDIT: No need for a network hosting agreement.
  5. It's possible. If they both have deployments in the same band, then it is possible. Is there any will for that? I have no idea. It's going to be awhile before Tmo has a LTE network launched anywhere though. Robert
  6. by Robert Herron Sprint 4G Rollout Updates Friday, July 6, 2012 - 12:55 PM MDT The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is way down yonder...Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The PR/VI market has yet to be announced by Sprint. Network Vision work is under way, with Samsung and their subcontractors actively working around the market. The Sprint PR/VI market encompasses all of Puerto Rico (including Culebra and Vieques) as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands (including St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John). Samsung has this market deployment configured in a completely different manner than any other we have reported. Samsung did show up and begin work at the end of April. Their subcontractors are running around the islands installing base station equipment, new cable runs, remote radio units and new Network Vision antenna panels. We have had S4GRU members in Puerto Rico submit some pictures of this work being completed at sites near them. This work appears to be on schedule from our previous report for the market. Network Vision site in Yauco, Puerto Rico. S4GRU Member Edil Montalvo provided this shot of a site in Yauco that received NV upgrades in early May. This site is slated to get Microwave backhaul which will not arrive until this Fall. Sprint and Samsung are currently working on the 4G Core in Bayamon that will handle all the LTE data and eHRPD data that will come from completed Network Vision sites. The Bayamon 4G Core will not be ready until this Fall. Sprint's backhaul vendors are actively working to install high-speed backhaul that will connect these NV sites to the completed core. Once the 4G core is complete and a good chunk of the backhaul is in place, Samsung will get back out to completed Network Vision sites and get the 3G upgrades and LTE hooked up to the new backhaul. Then the eHRPD and LTE networks can be running. The deployment dates in this article will discuss the dates that LTE sites are scheduled to start going live this Winter after everything is in place. Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in February, these are the anticipated sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good LTE coverage over many parts of the market. Schedule details and the bottom line We currently do not have a date that Sprint will formally "launch" LTE service in the PR/VI market. It is difficult to try to pick a date now this far out, but we will attempt to. In looking at the schedule as of today, it would indicate a February-March LTE launch (going on a 40% - 50% completion for launch). We will have a better idea how deployment is going after the Bayamon core and backhaul work are completed and LTE starts to go live. S4GRU has examined the schedule in great detail in this market and sees that most of the sites will be complete by May 2013. However, there may be a few sporadic sites that will linger past the completion. There is a chance that if the Bayamon core and backhaul can get completed ahead of schedule that these LTE live dates can be improved upon. 7. I have seen Sprint correspondence where they are talking about coordinating LTE roaming deals with wireless carriers who have or will deploy LTE in Band 25. Never any mention of names. C Spire could very well be among them. Makes sense. Robert
  8. I had $30 left on Google Wallet when I swtiched from my GNex to GS-III. I signed into GW on my GS-III using my same Gmail address, but for some reason my $30 left in my GW doesn't show up. Just the $10 for joining. Strange. My GNex was rooted and I wonder if that may have something to do with it. I'm baffled. Robert
  9. I'm glad you are getting good 3G results in your area. I too get decent 3G performance. But there are many areas of the Sprint network that desperately need the 3G upgrades that are coming as a part of Network Vision. Welcome to S4GRU, BTW! Robert
  10. Sprint LTE deployment is not concentrating on one area or neighborhood within a market. It's more of a shotgun approach. For instance, there are sites around King of Prussia that are early in the deployment, some are in the middle and some are later. Basically, once deployment begins around Philly, KOP should be getting some LTE pretty soon, and then every month or so another site will come live, and then another. Eventually, the whole area will be covered by the end of the deployment. Robert
  11. The terms beltways and loops are synonymous. Sometimes some regions prefer one over the other. Robert via Samsung Galaxy S-III 32GB using Forum Runner
  12. The article above clearly explains and provides dates. Robert
  13. LTE will be much better and stronger than WiMax when it is fully deployed. Sprint is deploying LTE on 1900MHz, whereas WiMax was deployed on much weaker 2500MHz spectrum. LTE signal strength will be more similar to 3G than to WiMax. Robert

  17. What do you Texans call the ring road around DFW that makes up the 635/20/820 roads? Looks like a Beltway to me. Robert via CM9 Kindle Fire using Forum Runner
  18. The issue of the problems in Chicago are explained in this article. It is caused by Motorola legacy equipment not playing with new Samsung equipment. In the SF Bay market, it is a different set up. It's legacy Lucent equipment and new Samsung equipment. Not likely the same problems. The amount of problems in markets other than Chicago are pretty minor. Robert
