Could HTC be building an iPod Touch competitor?

Just saw an article on Phandroid http://phandroid.com/2012/03/27/htc-cooking-up-ipod-touch-challenger-complete-with-kickstand-and-slide-out-stereo-speakers/ where they were looking at a HTC patent filing. It looks pretty cool and might give the iPod Touch more competition than the Samsung Galaxy 5.0. Kickstand and slide-out speakers are definately features that will set it apart from the rest of the pack. As long as the battery life is comparable to the rest.

My kids want iPod Touches. But I refuse. Sounds like a great alternative.

My kid keeps asking me if someone came out with a droidpod yet :) this might be perfect.

The Galaxy players are very nice. Come in 5.0,4.0, and a 3.6 variant. The 5.0in one is on sale at bestbuy right now, all with built in 8GB, but have SD slots for expandable memory. My wife and dauther both have the 8GB touches, and they are always having to shift around movies/apps.

I actually just purchased the 5.0 and must say I'm quite surprised by it. I've read reviews that would cause people to never buy it and reviews that make you feel like you have to have one RIGHT now.

Having the Epic 4G Touch I'd often be out of juice long before the day was over. I'm FB'g, Tapatalk'g, listening to music....you name it and I'm doing it from my phone; hence the battery not lasting thru out the day.

I've been on this thing (5.0) since 8 this morning. I think I've put it down for about an hr and just hit 10% battery remaining. My phone would've been dead long ago.

I actually prefer this to my Galaxy 10.1 since I ran into many apps I use not being optimized for Honeycomb. That was a bummer.

Yeah, these things are nice. I also have the 5". I always bring it in to work with me, and I stream Pandora for about 7 hours straight on it, and from the time I take it off the charger, around 6am, and the time I leave work, 4pm. I still have about 50% of my battery left

50% battery remaining after 10 hrs of use is impressive. On day one I didn't feel my battery lasted long with minimal usage. Today was the first time I ran it this long.

I was down to 10% using it for close to 10 hrs. Currently it's charging (seems to take hrs to fully charge the battery) and I'll do the same again later today and see if battery discharge remains the same, improves, or gets worse.

Wow, yeah. I just checked mine, and its been off the charger for 14 hours now, with minimal usage today. But I still have 90% of my battery. I'll post shots maybe on Monday, when I've ran Pandora for a majority of my work day. But I've been really impressed with the battery life on this

Took mine off charger today at 11:00, barely used it and I'm already at 80%. Seems I'm discharging faster than my rate of usage.

Hope this is true because I use an HTC Evo Shift has my iPod

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and coule potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
