iPad 3 or HD

The new iPad will be released tomorrow and it should have some interesting specs. What I'm most curious about is what sort of LTE connectivity will it have? With the iPhone coming out later this year, what the iPad has will sure to be included with the iPhone.

Quote Phone Arena said:

"Where things start getting interesting is with the connectivity. According to the sources for The Verge, we could see three different versions of the tablet introduced tomorrow. Verizon and AT&T will each get their own LTE model, the first mobile devices from the manufacturer to offer LTE support, and there will be a 3G variant with both a CDMA and HSPA radio similar to what is in the Apple iPhone 4S. Although LTE chips from Qualcomm can also run on 3G bands, Apple might have had a financial reason to separate these models."

I hope they get really innovative with this model. Hopefully do something crazy like have a 4x4 grid of icons on it.

You know, something brand new like that to justify buying a new one.

I heard it is going to be called the ipad2s

That doesn't surprise me! Put an "S" on it and call it new! lmao

Woohoo! New screen and more RAM I'm excited! Not!

This is the year of the quad core! If it doesn't have one I won't be impressed!

Lame apple very lame!

It is not going to be anything new for tech. Apple is always behind in their products. Look at the past. Iphones 3.5inch screen with no 4g. Let's even go back to the beginning. Original iphone was edge only even though all the other phones in the past 6 months have been 3g phones. icloud stuff comes out when it was even available on winmo 6.0 years before.

Crazy if you really sit and think about it.

Yes, I will be surprised if this only comes with a dual-core, while their talking about putting a quad-core in the iPhone this fall.

guess you were surprised today then? lol

Still a lil dual-core chip there....though they did up the GPU to quad-core which was interesting move by far...

Still waiting on anandtech to do a full breakdown on the tech specs of the chips used here and how they are incorporating LTE modems and such.

So far heres their speculation to a tiny amount...

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5654/apple-tv-next-and-the-new-ipad-tech-specs-pages-post-single-core-a5-in-apple-tv

Makes sense to NOT go full blown quad-core though as even 32nm chips for it are not fully ready yet and doing a 42nm quad core would not be ideal really as it wouldn't give them much to improve upon like they are going to be able to do so now in the future.

The disappointing part is the lack of a Sprint iPad, even if only 3G.

The other thing I'm surprised about is the inclusion of DC-HSDPA. If anyone knows more about this upgrade to HSPA, please explain it in layman's terms, because I'm confused from reading the Wikipedia article.

I just read the specs and it's pretty much spot on what I figured. No innovation, a step behind in the rest of the world. Slowly day by day the iFan club is realizing they are just getting milked like the cows on a farm. I do have to give a tip of the hat to their marketing team at such a great job of gathering all the cattle and brainwashing them to go into the stable for a big milking year after year with no real results. I can see it now... iPad 2013, upgrade both cameras to 2012 specs, upgrade to quad-core CPU like everything else is going in 2012, and get rid of the physical button like others did in 2010, the cattle's utters will be dripping wet in 2013 waiting as all the cattle wait in line for their milking. Even the news is having a hard time saying what is so new about this new ipad.

To the true iFan "a magical experience!"

I'm so glad I don't have money right now. But hopefully the next iPhone will have LTE that even works on Sprint. And digiblur, very interesting anecdote. But I still prefer my MacBook Pro over iDevices, so I'm not drug on too much by this whole iDevice craze.

I love to bash but to each and their own. A coworker just spent over $1500 on the new ipad stuff. Wow... you've got to be kidding. I would have a fat laptop with a keybord and not just a big crippled locked down iphone.

My next MacBook Pro will cost me close to $1500, but that price for iPad stuff is just too much. For that price I have to have a full computer setup.

Pfft...

The specs of the new Asus transformer infinity

Has the new IPad blown out of the water already

How long will apple rehash this stupid crap?

They can't even think up a new name!

They at very least could have put as S on it!

Euphorian, They are just bringing the iPad into line with all their other product lines. Take the MacBook pro for example. It has been called MacBook Pro since it was released in 2006.

The info in parentheses indicates model information by release date, and is not part of the actual name.

Apple did it again in my opinion. This was just a refreshed iPad 2 like the iPhone 4S. Except for some quality enhancements, nothing really innovative, but the "Apple magic" worked as always and it will sell like hotcakes. Agree, it should have been called the iPad S.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
