Ok,

 

Im in Houston and I was able to get LTE but it was very very brief. The way that it connected and lost signal within a 100 yard stretch reminded me of that horrible Wimax..Please say it ain't so that LTE will be just like WIMAX coverage.

I don't think Houston is completely working right now, so I wouldn't worry about it. On my Galaxy Nexus if I update the PRL it will show 4G for about 10 seconds before dropping back to 3G, I don't think the phone can get data over 4G yet so it drops back to a connection that works.

It absolutely will get better. LTE will be the same as what EVDO is when it is completed (coverage not speed). Then all sprint has to do is start weeding out the EVDO and expanding LTE.

 

Keep in mind what Robert said about chicken littles. Everyone wanted the LTE towers to not be blocked, yet the sky is falling when there are problems with the network in its infancy.

The PRL has nothing to do with 4G LTE. The reason it's connecting to LTE is because the CDMA radio is cycling from one state to another so with CDMA technically off it's trying to at least get some sort of connection. For example if you disconnect from WiFi your phone will try to connect to 3G or LTE.

I never said it had anything to do with LTE, but it is the only way to get the gnex to search for LTE only. I'm surrounded by non LTE towers so it always defaults back to 3G.

Not wimax - sprint is doing every 3G tower - they just want to launch now and backfill later.

 

Wouldn't you rather have sites that you can connect to now instead of waiting for them to finish every single site before launching?

 

Clearwire built the wimax network - you can't compare them.

If you want it to stick on LTE switch to LTE only not LTE/CDMA you'll lose the ability to call or text though (AFAIK anyways).

      Your referring to the $25.00 a month Infinite Unlimited plan?  I don't see any other plans on there even cheaper than that on their website.  I was looking at the Motorola 2023 Edge fwiw as well for $10.00 a month.

      A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.

      Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.

      Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
