What is iNum? Why you should care.

iNum stands for international Number. It is a new kind of global phone number for a new kind of world -- a world with a new geography that's about local presence and global relationships, not about distance or national borders.

iNum is making use of the +883 global country code created by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union).

Voxbone, with deep expertise in VoIP and telephone numbers, was assigned +883 5100 in 2008 and started the iNum Initiative which maintains the SIP and administrative infrastructure to enable this global number range for IP Communications.

Traditional phone numbers are tied to a particular country, or even a particular city, so when you move to another country you need to get a new number from a new supplier. iNum numbers however do not have this limitation and you can therefore keep your iNum wherever you go in the world.

iNum initially supports Voice, HD Voice and SMS.

Who can call iNum? Well you as a Sprint customer can.

HOLD UP NOT SO FAST. Don't Dial that number JUST yet.

Sprint lets you send SMS and Call iNum numbers but here is the catch. The billing system at Sprint classifies the call as International Satellite Phone call which will be billed at $9.99/min. Which is wrong. This past Feb. Google Voice has launched iNum support. You can call +883 5100 and +888 ITU Disaster Relief numbers for free. No connection charges, no per minute fees. Skype also lets you call iNum, Its and Acceptable 1.2 cents per min with the standard rates which is acceptable.

Flowroute.com is about to launch iNum support, Giving out iNum numbers and no billing for receiving or sending calls via SIP to iNum.

Current iNum Voice Reach, SMS Reach.

Providers that provide iNum services for free or at cost.

The goal is to get Sprint to fix this billing error and possibly add FREE calling and SMS to their $15.00 International Text/Calling Add-on.

Thanks for your time.
