    LG G3

    SCP Running VZW Sim.

Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk

I thought that the SIM was only used for LTE.  1X/eHRPD is still connecting to Sprint.  Try calling 611 and see if it's Verizon or Sprint.

  1. On my way home from Boone this weekend, I picked up Band 41 in Lenoir. Whilst in Boone I picked up band 26 & 41 near the intersection of King & 321.

On my commute to work Rocky river rd, 485 to 85 to 77, I'm connected to band 26 most of the way.

The App State students will be very happy with both!  I have been looking on the Catawba County Permit site for any Sprint activity and so far, nothing new since earlier this year with some generators being replaced.  We aren't to the point of absolutely needing B41, but it would be nice to help ease the burden off of B25 for Single Band LTE customers.

  2. B26 LTE is starting to light up around Catawba County.  LTE Discovery logs show it started popping up around October 3rd, 2014.

It's just in time too!  Since the iPhone 6 launched, B25 LTE has slowed to less than 3Mb/s during peak times.  Hopefully it won't take long for Sprint to optimize the sites and get power increased so we get some decent in-building coverage.  Valley Hills Mall always falls back to 3G on Carolina West Wireless.

  3. B26 is active in Harrisburg at the tower on Stough and 49! Too bad some of those panels aren't pointed at the heart of Harrisburg over by town hall, as that stretch has pretty bad service.

I often wonder if 1 antenna per sector is enough to properly cover service areas where tower/site spacing is poor.  Without adjacent sites to fill in the holes, it causes too many low/no signal areas.  If there were two panels per sector, they could cover six different directions from one site, thus the user experience would be significantly better.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Sprint will improve in NC, especially in the foothills areas.  I cannot stand the thought of switching to Verizon, but I may need to if things don't improve in the next 2 years.

If anyone's curious, my LG G3 Quick Circle Folio Wireless arrived in the mail today, and I love it. It's fantastic.

It fits the device really well, supports NFC and QI wireless charging without any hacks or weirdness. It feels much better to me than the default back cover (textured plastic), and makes the phone feel very small compared to my previous, bulky cases.

I don't know why Sprint only carries the non-charging cases. This one is only $10 more expensive than the standard one.

Despite being sold exclusively at Verizon (officially anyway, as far as I can tell), the "Verizon" case is 100% compatible with the Sprint LG G3, and carries no Verizon branding or logos of any kind on the case.

The only thing that bothers me about the Quick Circle Wireless Charging Case is that it offers no protection for the edges of the screen.  This morning, my fiancee accidentally dropped her G3 w/QC case w/Qi charging off of the bed and it cracked the screen on the lower left-hand corner causing much of the digitizer to stop working.  Thank goodness for Squaretrade protection. They are sending her a replacement phone ($75 deductible), but it will take until Friday to get one as they do not have one in-stock.  She's now back on and hating her iPhone 4.  That iPhone is the biggest POS ever.

To prevent this from happening again, I'm going to get her a case that offers real protection, such as a Seidio Dilex w/Kickstand or, if she insists, an Otterbox.

  4. This is an interesting turn of events and I think there is going to be a different announcement, such as a network sharing agreement with T-Mobile and possibly Dish getting involved.

Is there an easy to understand "How To" for buying shares online?  I've been wanting to get at least $1,000 worth of Sprint, just to get my feet wet, but have no idea where to start online :(.  I know fees are involved, but which one will cost me the least in fees and such?  Is E*Trade good?  Scottrade?

Can anyone tell me why I cant use data on a call when Im on LTE? This is very frustrating.

Because the Sprint isn't SVLTE (Simultaneous Voice and LTE) capable, though the Verizon LG G3 is.  I'll admit, I am jealous of that feature on my GF's LG G3.

    LG G3

    Nope.

I thought band 41 would be blazing fast, but turns out it was just average...

This was in Atlanta, I also hit 26 much of the time i was at the aquarium.

I'm thinking the B41 site you were connected to hasn't had its backhaul upgraded yet.  Still, that is more than enough to do most anything on a Smartphone.  Plenty of upstream data for an HD quality Video Hangout, Skype, whatever.

Just got mine and loving it. My big problem is i lost the mic on keyboard to voice text. Anyone have a clue?

Go to Settings > Language & Input > LG Keyboard (Settings *gear icon*) > Keyboard height and layout > Bottom row keys.  The picture of the bottom row of the keyboard can be manipulated by dragging and dropping things around up there.  You can change the one key to be Keyboard settings, the Microphone, Handwriting or Clip Tray.

I have notice that sometimes I see the dbm jump up by 10 or more sometimes while holding the phone, haven't been able to pinpoint the cause but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the same.

Happens on mine all of the time.  The phone's receive antenna seems to be directional.  Sitting in my couch, as soon as I point the front or back of the phone toward the Sprint tower/site, I gain about 10db.  My signal is constanly bouncing up and down and my Nexus 5 never does that.  It drives me nuts that I am only .45 mi from the Sprint site and my signal is regularly -98 to -102dBm.  That is I-40 on the right side of the image.

While on a call, has anyone noticed pulses or faint ticking noise in the earpiece?  It is driving me crazy, even though it is very faint.  Sometimes I have to mash the phone to my ear to hear Verizon users due to their crappy voice codec/compression.  I hate to do an exchange, but I think I will be hitting up Best Buy tomorrow to do just that.

  5. "On the coverage front, we’re leveraging our tri-band spectrum position to use 1.9GHz FDD-LTE for broad market coverage, 800MHz FDD-LTE for in-building coverage, and 2.5GHz TDD- LTE for coverage in dense urban markets."

I believe it has been said here that almost all Sprint sites will receive B41 as part of NV 2.0, but this wording from John Saw seems to contradict that.

Did you accept the TOC for the LG apps? I know on G2 they have these and if you don't agree to them when prompted, you can't use some of the LG apps.

I sure did.  I think it is my Seidio Surface case that has only a very small opening for the IR emitter.  I was finally able to get it to work.  I didn't realize I had to keep pushing down on the buttons.  Previously, I was only trying a single tap thinking I could get the power or volume to work.

I could only use it within 6 feet of an LG TV at work today.  I had to press down continuously on the on-screen buttons for it to work and the beam is very narrow and I had to aim my phone down slightly.  I hate taking my case off to try it, but I may just break down and do that today.

    LG G3

Yeah. I use it everyday. It works perfectly.

Are you running ART or Dalvik runtime?

    LG G3

Has anyone successfully used the LG QuickRemote app to control a TV or other electronics device with the built-in IR emitter?  I've tried four different TV's and it doesn't work at all.  I wonder if the IR emitter on the top of my G3 is defective.  I'm also running ART, so I'm not sure if that would make a difference.

    Thanks!

This phone performs better than my nexus 5 as far as connecting frequently to LTE sites. Seems like it scans for them more often.

Interesting.  I ran my G3 and my Nexus 5 (KitKat 4.4.4 ".16" radio) side by side on the way home from work today and they both seemed to drop LTE and pick it up within 10 seconds of each other.  I was running SCP with the audible alerts turned on.  The radios perform almost identically.  Now the Nexus 5 with the old .17 radio is a different story.  B25 LTE holds on so much better with .17 on my Nexus 5.

    LG G3

When on a phone call, Is anyone hearing a dull noise or buzzing in the earpiece that stops when you start speaking?  It almost sounds like RF interference of some kind.  This happens on 1X and 1X800.

    LG G3

Compared my g3 to a friends one m8,  he was getting -10 to -6 better signal  on LTE then i was :( we were about the same for 3g signal. My G3 grabs onto 3g for dear life, were i used to have 4g on my note 2 I get a real strong 3g signal.. I'm on band 26 as well, not to impressed with my download speeds compared to my note 2 I was getting 12-15mb download were i'm getting 3-5mb download same spot in my office at work.

Similar situation here, but on B25.  I am not happy with my G3 at this point.  I guess I was spoiled by my Nexus 5.  Have you noticed your signal levels bouncing like crazy?  At home, where I look out the window and see the tower, I used to get B25 LTE @ -78 to -85 on my Nexus 5.  Now I get -89 to -101.  It is constantly bouncing high to low, low to high.  Perhaps it is jumping between sectors, but my Nexus 5 wouldn't do it as often.

I'm wondering if my G3 is defective :(

Get them to re provision your Wi-Fi calling

Thanks.  Luckily, I was able to take care of it on my own.  My account on Sprint.com shows "VWDOM0 - Domestic Voice Over WiFi Unl - $0.00."  I fixed it by re-provisioning my G3.  Maybe this will help others...

Before beginning, turn WiFi calling and WiFi off, then opened the dialer and enter: ##72786# - Your G3 will go through the motions and reboot.

When my G3 came back up, it updated some things. PRL for one, and rebooted again.  Once it came back up WiFi calling worked. :)

US version didn't get wireless charging capability:

    http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G3-Wireless-Charger-WCD-100-hands-on_id57967

That's exactly why I can't get this phone unfortunately as that is a big deal to me. I understand you can get a case to add the capability but I'm specific about how my case looks and most don't cut it.

I'm hopeful that 3rd Party battery covers come out with Qi charging.  I have a bunch of Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging pads between my house and my GF's house for our Nexus 5/7 devices.
