  1. I'm going to go ahead and "call it" and say the local towers have launched 1x800 voice. Central kentucky along the 127 corridor from Danville to Frankfort is completely covered in 1x800 voice. Never once lost signal from my driveway to the capitol today including a stop in the Harrodsburg Wal-mart and Danville Kroger.

  2. I have a feeling it's for the streaming/backend stuff more than the headphones and brand. As far as the appointing Dr. Dre and the other guy to positions in Apple corporate I assume that was a bargaining chip and little more. Maybe an appearance WWDC this year and that's it.

  3. US Cellular is not happy with the rules: http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/us-cellular-signals-opposition-reserved-spectrum-plan-600-mhz-auction/2014-05-09

"We indicated that given a choice between the current proposal and a proposal that did not differentiate between reserved and unreserved spectrum, that we would prefer the latter," the carrier wrote. "We also indicated that our previous comments filed in this docket proposed a simple limitation on the amount of spectrum any carrier could win in any auction at no more than 25 percent. We continue to support such a proposal."

  4. http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/dish-ntelos-aim-launch-fixed-td-lte-network-july-later-expected/2014-05-09

Dish and nTelos have said they will initially launch the service in markets where they have a high concentration of customers: Roanoke, Staunton, Waynesboro and Charlottesville, Va. The service uses nTelos' 2.5 GHz spectrum, and Hyde has said the service might be sold as a standalone service or bundled with nTelos' wireless service or Dish's satellite TV service. nTelos has a total wireless footprint covering 6 million POPs.

  5. http://www.androidcentral.com/kyocera-hydro-vibe-waterproof-and-shock-resistant-sprint-and-virgin-mobile

Sprint announced the Kyocera Hydro Vibe is launching on May 9, this Friday, and coming to Virgin Mobile on May 27. Though it isn't quite as sexy as the name would suggest, it is waterproof and affordable. For $149.99 up front or $0 and $9.59/month over two years, you get Android 4.3, a 4.5-inch qHD display, 8 megapixel camera, 2,000 mAh battery, 1.2 Ghz quad-core Snapdragon processor, and Sprint Spark support.

  6. I still don't know what they're doing with the 900MHz spectrum. I know the plan is to form a 3MHz LTE band in that spectrum, but do they really want another little sliver in yet another band? Can they make a deal to move Solinc+others to 900Mhz and have full use of the 7MHz spectrum throughout the country minus IBEZ? Or swap their holdings in the 900Mhz band for 800Mhz spectrum and reband to give themselves 10Mhz in the SMR band? I know it will take a while to do that, but the 900Mhz band will also take a long time to implement. Or even sell their holding in the 900MHz band?

I'm sure the return wouldn't be worth it, BUT would there be a benefit in some areas of moving the CDMA signal to 900mhz and using 800 for LTE only?

  7. Frankly, I can't understand why many people seem to think Sprint shouldn't spend money on AWS 3. The feds already said they are leery of a T-Mobile buyout by Sprint/Softbank, and that all future transactions will include the BRS/EBS in the spectrum screen. Since the next 2 auctions aren't subject to said screen, I think that Sprint should participate in the AWS 3 auction, and build out an LTE network on AWS 3 as well for capacity purposes. If they can get another 10 MHz nationwide or more, then that's just icing on the cake. Remember, Sprint is doing CA on the Clearwire Spectrum, so that doesn't stop them from doing CA on the FDD/LTE spectrum they own as well. CA with 800SMR, AWS 3, & PCS would yield up to 15 x 15 in many markets. That would yield some pretty decent data speeds.

How difficult is it for future upgrades to the network like this? Would the NV antenna units on the rack be capable of transmitting a signal over the AWS band with an RRU upgrade/addition?
