  1. The Buffalo Linkstation Duo is just about right for what I am looking to do. According to what I am reading the drives are not hot-swappable but I can replace a drive if/when one fails if I run it in RAID 1. The fact that it comes with drives is a selling point as well. I'll just have to do some price comparisons.

  2. Sometimes when the network has become especially bad (4-5 dropped calls in a row) I get angry. I still get angry over data speeds but the dropped calls are the worst. Sometimes after that happens I just want to vent.

Sounds like you're on the verge of becoming the Fist of Goodness. Don't fall into a dinner party.

  3. Just to be clear, the DC market includes DC proper, Northern VA and as far south as Stafford as well as most of the Maryland suburbs and extends to parts of Frederick and as far southeast as Hollywood.

That's just a rough outline so please don't get upset if I didn't define the borders exactly.

Of course Sponsors can see the interactive maps and see exactly where the DC and Baltimore Markets fall.

  4. irev210 makes a good point about mitigating HDD failures with a hot swap solution. That wirecutter review referenced the same concerns about drive reliability with the Western Digital as I have experienced.

Thanks for all the insight guys. I think I have to reconsider my budget. Now that you guys have me thinking I realize that a storage solution with no redundancy is just as bad as no storage solution at all.

  5. The QNAP and the ReadyNas are both out of the budget for what I need. We use a ReadyNAS at work and it does very well but it's overkill for me. Something along the lines of what AJ recommended is about right. I have looked at the MyBook products but I have had some bad experiences with WD external drives (early drive failures) before so I am a little leery of them.

  6. I'm hoping that some of you tech-heads can help me with finding a good home NAS (network attached storage) solution. I don't need a boatload of features and I don't need multiple discs for RAID configurations. I need something that is reasonably fast and user-friendly that I can back up the my and my wife's laptop, share files, possibly stream media to my PS3. Remote access via web would be a bonus but not required. Something under $200 would also be nice.

Do any of you have any recommendations you can share from your own experiences?

    Thanks!

  7. A bird's nest is not going to stop a contractor from getting paid that day. If he climbed up their I can guarantee you he's not walking from a paycheck over a nest. It will magically disappear.

Yeah, I can see a guy climbing all the way to the top of a tower, humping his tool bag and then seeing a bird's nest and turning around and not doing his work. Yeah, right! It'll be a quick look around and then; "Fly! Be Free!'

  8. What a crazy day. So my girlfriends evo has been tripping out since the ota was released. Its been rebooting randomly for absolutely no apparent reason and she insisted I take it to sprint to which I replied that they are probably gonna just hard reset the phone and send me on my way. So while I was there, just by some extreme coincidence, there was an htc rep that was about to leave so I asked if he had a few minutes to see if I could ask some questions. Not sure about the accuracy of what I was told but I took it upon myself to ask a series of questions in regards to the lte connection issues with the htc evo and he told me that they are fully aware of the situation(we already know that of course) and that there is a fix that is currently in testing that should be released fairly shortly. Now there is an update for the gs3 that went out today to fix "Optimized LTE system selection" among other issues so hopefully the evo will have a similar fix released shortly like what the htc rep said.

  9. Well to be fair, you get so much more than just wifi...

For a daily rate of 12.95 USD, the following features are available in your guest room:

      • High-speed Internet access
      • Unlimited local phone calls
      • Unlimited long distance calls (within the country), not available in all markets

  10. Well I didn't have any problems with using my phone in Canada. The problem was in my hotel room in Detroit. I guess the signal couldn't reach up the 49th floor. Of course they didn't have free in-room wifi and I wasn't going to pay 12 bucks a day to get it either.

Sent from my EVO LTE using Forum Runner

  11. LMAO, I'm an accountant, the worst I could possibly do is stab you with a calculator.

Yeah so was the guy in that movie "Wanted". Turns out he was from a long line of assassins. So the killing with a calculator thing is probably just one of your many skills.

  12. That is pure BS!? Sprint sent you the device and they usually don't come activated but why would you want it if you had to pay a monthly charge for it? Call them again and tell them the rep who sent it to you said it would be free as you don't get good signal and you never would have agreed to take it if you were going to be charged for it. Try going through multiple reps and supervisors if you have to. If they still stop you tell them you want to be transferred to the retention department to cancel and they will deal with you. How many phones do you have on your account? Contract ends when?

I've decided that it's not really that important to me right now. As I get older I find that I pick my battles a little bit better. If my in-home service degrades or becomes more needed then I will revisit the issue.

  13. really? was it originally active on your account? I only have to pay taxes/fees on what should be the monthly fees. but if I disconnect for an extended period of time I either have to send it back to them or they will start billing me for it.

It had not been activated by the rep who originally sent it to me nor was I told that I would need to activate it when I requested it. It's been sitting in my garage for nearly a year after I wasn't able to get it to work when I first got it. I haven't been billed or charged anything.

  14. Guys (including any members of the female persuasion),

I was in an area of pretty strong 3G signal yesterday but I was getting speed results that were lower than I would have expected given the signal strength. Is that a result of a capacity issue with the cell or is there something else that would cause this? I know the speeds aren't the worst but I figured they would be a lot better. Can you give me any insight? Thanks!

  15. Is it active on your account?

Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge

That was the second part of my adventure that I decided not to post about. Long story short, the device was not on my account and after being told I would have to pay an activation fee and contract for 2 years if I wanted to activate the device I decided not to do it. I didn't think I should have to pay to activate a device that would allow me to get a usable level of a service that I already pay for. The tele-sales rep said he spoke to a "supervisor" who would not waive the activation because they had already sent me the device for free and with free shipping.

  16. Welcome to the site. :welcome:

Is it strange that when I read your thread title the next words in my head were "...Is it me you're looking for"?

  17. I hope someone might be able to help me.

Prior to this upade my phone was working great (expect Goggle Wallet) After the update I can not connect to my WiFi via a secure link. If I open it up, it will with no problems.

I have done a factory reset and still no go. Sprint also had me do a full reset and it still does not work.

I have tried to reset my modem with no luck. I am currently using the WPA/WPA 2

When trying to connect it will ask for my password. After inputing the pw it keeps saying incorrect pw entered. I have ensured I typed it in right but still no go. After the second try it will tell me the modom is out of range. When I toggle the WiFi switch it starts over again by asking for the pw.

Sprint is willing to replace the phone (refurb ofcourse), I am just trying to avoid that if possible.

    Dennis

Just as a troubleshooting step have you tried securing your wifi network with WEP and then see if you are able to connect with the Evo? I know WEP is considered less secure but it might be helpful in diagnosing your problem if the phone will connect with a different setup.

Are you also having trouble connecting to other secured wifi, especially networks that you could previously connect to like your work or a friend's house?

I can't say I can fix your problem but those were just a couple questions that came to mind.

  18. High Priority: Enjoy your vacation.

    *Fixed*

As I think about this in light of something that AJ wrote in another thread, maybe doing work on this site while on vacation and not encumbered with job responsibilities is part of Robert enjoying his vacation.

  19. Yes, this is a Sentence Completion question from the October 2011 SAT. And, of course, the correct answer is:

    D) ejaculate . . dungarees

    :P

    AJ

I question the validity of this being on a 2011 SAT. What teenager in 2011 would even know the word dungarees much less know how to use it in a sentence?
