  1. Thanks, I just downloaded this and set it up.  Have you noticed any ill-effects on battery life?  It mentions that it could cause wake issues (device unable to sleep)...  Unfortunately, just got the phone yesterday so I won't be a good sample but I'll keep everyone posted.

It will do a wake lock every time it has to CHANGE the color. For example, if you have it set to go Red-Green-Blue-Red-Green-Blue..... when you have an email, missed call, and fb message, this will cause several short wake locks EACH SECOND.

For this reason, I have mine set to only show the color of the LATEST notification, so the color only changes if I get a new notification of a different color.

  2. I wasn't hoping to start a Sprint flame war.

I'm sure there's reasons for everything. As a multi billion dollar company, they wouldn't purposefully do something like this because they didn't see it coming. The benefits has to outweigh the short term cons.

I understand some of you feel let down, but at least we somewhat got this issue figured out while we are all still well within our 14 day return policy.

Exactly. While I'm upset I'm back to 2011 3G speeds, its good to finally know the cause and that it can be fixed. I live in an announced LTE market. Here's to hoping Sprint flips on the 3G NV (all equipment is in place for 3G if the site has LTE) ASAP.

It seems that Sprint turns on LTE as soon as, or soon after the NV equipment and backhaul have been installed. Then they wait until all of the sites in a small area, or "cluster" are upgraded to turn on 3g/voice NV to avoid the handoff issues they saw in the first several NV markets.

  3. Saw somewhere else the suggestion to report this to Android Blogs to get some press going to hopefully get Sprint motivated for a fix. I'd suggest others submit tips too, maybe S4GRU can write a blog post a "scoop" all the blogs again? Issues were first reported here!

  4. I'm sitting in my house in Durham where my Evo LTE had plenty of LTE service and I can't get anything from my N5. It's currently on Global, when I switched it to LTE I wasn't getting anything either. Maybe I need to change get some other settings?

Nothing wrong with your phone. Nothing wrong with your settings. Something is wrong with the Network in the triangle. No idea when or how Sprint will fix this, whether it will require a phone update (god I hope not that could take forever) or a network update (might be quicker?)

Interesting the G2 is having this issue too, hate it for you guys, but its good that this will prob make Sprint fix it faster.

  5. Interesting... I travelled through Greensboro and Winston-Salem today and had the same issue there -- LTE displays for a split second then drops to 3G.

I was heading East. Picked it up west of Wilson, held it through Farmville (population of like 13) and had a crazy strong signal in Greenville.

  6. I traveled 25 miles outside of Raleigh and instantly got a strong LTE signal. I then kept that LTE signal for several hours in areas my EVO barely got signal and where I had no idea LTE even existed (super super rural areas). I traveled in and out of LTE areas for about another hour and the device performed handoffs flawlessly. I'm now getting LTE inside of a house where an iPhone 4S and a (older) blackberry have to step outside to keep a call from breaking up. I'm VERY VERY impressed.

This 100% confirms in my mind that the issue so many of us are seeing connecting to LTE is regional. I am absolutely confident that as soon as I get back to Raleigh I will go back to never seeing LTE again until Sprint fixes this. Which is disappointing, because the radio in this thing, especially on LTE is the best I have ever seen in my life, by far, but Sprint has something seriously screwed up in many parts of the country  keeping us from connecting.

  7. I just received my Nexus 5 from Sprint and have been unable to connect to LTE at all with it. I believe that I was within range of an active band 41 site, but I'm unable to confirm that...

"LTE" briefly displays over the signal bar, but never connects and switches back to 3G.

I'm definitely thinking this is a regional issue now. You're right down the road from me and I have several other reports from RDU guys that their N5 will not connect to LTE.

  8. Maybe some of the LTE problems are because of the scan times. I know on my Evo LTE the scan time was high so I changed it. It might be a scanning for LTE every 15 minutes for example and that's why there maybe hand off problems. Can you change the LTE scan time on the Nexus?

A reboot or an airplane mode toggle causes an immediate scan and we still cannot connect to LTE. Not a scanning issue unfortunately.

  9. Possibly. But not definitely. Since we do not know the exact reason of the problem, can't rule anything out right now. Currently we are just trying to determine the commonality.

Is it time to start a separate thread with a couple of polls that people can answer, like bands in your area, what your area is, hardware vendor in your area, etc? So we can find a trend?

  10. Are all people having LTE issues in Band 41 markets? Is it possible your device sees the Band 41 site and not allowing you to connect to Band 25 LTE?

Is Raleigh a Band 41 market???  :P I know you know Robert!

Edit: I'll be traveling to Greenville NC this weekend, and while they have B25 LTE (relatively new), I'm pretty sure they do NOT have B41 LTE. So we'll see if I connect instantly like I should.

  11. We don't have B26 or B41 in my area, just B25. My N5 won't connect to B25 unless I set it under dial code 4636 (phone info) and change it to LTE only. Then I can only get data and no voice.

What's weird is that when I toggle airplane mode, it says LTE for a second, drops, then connects to eHRPD. Sprint says wait til tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath.

For those who have rock-solid LTE, what band are you on?

It's that way for all of us (regarding LTE flashing for a second) that cannot connect to LTE. I assume everyone is on B25. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm HOPING even the N5's sold from Sprint will have this issue in the areas we are seeing it in, that will light a fire under their asses to get it fixed.

  12. Did not help for me either. However as I posted earlier I did start receiving LTE last night (about 30 hours after activation) and have been receiving fine since. I haven't heard anyone else chime in yet that was having issues yesterday so I can't confirm that it is just a delay with provisioning or something else.

It's been about 80 hours for me (got it monday morning). Not a drop of LTE yet.

  13. It will be interesting to see tomorrow if any of the people who purchased theirs from Sprint have the same LTE problems in the same areas the rest of us are. Approaching 1 week of having this phone and haven't seen any LTE yet.

As we get closer to the end of the return window (14 days after order I think) it's going to be hard to decide whether or not to return it or just put a TMo SIM or something in it, the phone is great otherwise.  :(

  14. I wonder is it's a Sprint wide issue because I need to toggle airplane mode on my Note 2 sometimes to get LTE reconnected again.

It's very annoying especially when i'm trying to watch a Youtube video or something.

We cannot even connect by airplane toggle or reboot. Not a single LTE connection (unless you go into the testing screen and force it into LTE Only mode, but then you have no voice connection).

  15. That's kind of a shocker.

I would think NV has made it's way to the Triangle by now. Considering all the tech companies that's located there.

Raleigh has had solid LTE for a long time, I get it everywhere but my home. However in 3 days, my N5 has not connected once. The N5 has major major issues in some areas, most of us have never seen the LTE icon unless we force LTE ONLY.

  16. The LTE coverage is just phenomenal compared to the One/EVO 4G LTE/LGOG,GS4, etc.

No Sprint phone has been able to hold LTE in my home (new lowE glass windows + old school solid brick construction + old thick horsehair plaster walls) except the new Nexus 5.

    The connection is solid.

Those of us that cannot even connect to LTE are jealous

  17. Which integration option are you using (1 or 2)?

Does your MMS actually shoot up on the recipient's phone as coming from your gv number?

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Not sure if it is 1 or 2 but it is full integration. I only have 1 number, my sprint number is my google voice number.

I no longer use the google voice app, hangouts for SMS & MMS and have the voicemail integrated into the stock dialer.

I still use the gvoice app to text from my tablets/computer though and no MMS there obviously.

  18. I'm not having any issue with LTE. Are those of you who are experiencing problems enabling Band 26 and setting the Band Priority differently?

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

No. Stock, un-modified devices have the issue. It is likely region specific. Alcatel-Lucent markets I'm thinking.

  19. Sprint has confirmed the issue on their own forums. Hopefully the fix is as easy as the one for the MEID debacle.

We are aware of some of the issues experienced with the Play Store version of the Nexus 5. We've gathered account information from some users with the same issue and are working towards a fix. As soon as we get this resolved it will promptly be shared.
