  1. Yes. Only the sector id in brackets will change, but if the site id stays the same, you'll get the same note.

Then that is amazing, I'm getting a b26 signal for probably close to 10 miles, spanning a number of b25 sites, I'll have to plot it on a map to measure the distances.

Before I added a site note I thought multiple b26 sites in the area were live, but now it looks like it is just one that covers a huge area.

  2. I don't get why this Google Hangouts is such a big deal. I have had Sprint/GV integration since it's launch in 2011 (it could be 2010) and I use my Sprint number on my Verizon Galaxy S4 and my AT&T iPhone. I use the Google Voice app on both of those smartphones to make and receive calls from my Sprint number on my Verizon and AT&T phone. It works flawlessly. I can send and receive text messages from my Sprint number using the Google Voice app as well. Once I add the random GV# that is tagged to each GV call/text to the appropriate contact, I can use my stock messaging app from my Verizon S4 and AT&T iPhone for texts without issues.

Again, I have used this setup for 3+ years, it works perfect about 98% of the time.

Google Hangouts is poorly written, unstable, and highly overrated.

    My two cents.

I feel the complete opposite. The G Voice app is awful, slow, buggy, and has not been updated in ages. Hangouts on the other hand gets updated regularly, and is the only chat platform I use other than SMS (and I use it for SMS now too!)

That means all my communication is in a single app. Hangouts now also has the ability to send and receive SMS over data (which GV ofc already had) BUT it can also place and receive calls over data. This would have been super helpful when I was in WV recently skiing and Sprint had literally 0 service within 30 mins of the mountain, not even roaming, but our cabin had WiFi. Everyone with me was using calling over hangouts from my laptop because their verizon phones did not work either, this would have been much more convenient over my phone.

I also use the hangouts chrome extension to talk to people all day in my computer, now I will be able to get SMS and respond right through that extension too, instead of having to go to the GV website.

But we all have our own opinions :)

  3. Sprint is doing a great job filling in the holes in their LTE coverage in Raleigh. This month is the first one in a long time where I can honestly say I've had no problems using my phone. Long time coming but I'm so glad it's getting better. Hopefully the B26 and B41 rollouts won't be as hard on the network as Network Vision 1.0 has been.

I agree, the coverage is solid. My problem is when i do hit one of the little seams or holes in LTE coverage and fall to 3G, it takes my Nexus 5 FOREVER to scan for LTE again on its own. B26 will help with this no doubt.

I've gotten to the point I can probably toggle airplane mode behind my back, hanging upside down, with my eyes closed.

  4.

This means that, theoretically, 1900 and 800 should have equal speeds in most places because both are 5x5s. But in real world scenarios, physics do not allow for it. As you probably know, 800 stretches further than 1900. This means that 800 is able to reach more people than 1900. It also can not be on every tower, as interference would cause issues. This means that generally, more people will be on an 800 channel than on a 1900 channel. So 800 will usually be slower. And 1900 will usually be faster because, going back to Robert's answer, there are more towers per square mile broadcasting 1900 than 800.

I was under the impression that b26 would go on every tower, and that downtilt and transmission power would be used to avoid interference with nearby towers, since the current towers are spaced for 1900mhz?

Basically they would strive to make 800mhz only fill the current 1900mhz footprint in metro areas, but giving us MUCH better building penetration on b26. And in rural areas where interference of nearby towers was unlikely, they would let b26 go as far as it could.

    Is that wrong?

  5. Looks like Iliad is a mobile telecom reseller in France, similar to say Virgin Mobile or something, where they own no towers but resell other's networks. They also are a smaller company (financially) than even TMUS, so they would have to majorly finance the deal.

They seem like a rather odd buyer, very little synergy that could be leveraged between the two companies. But if DT is looking only at the numbers, they may very well take the deal and run, finally getting what they want: out of the US market.

  6. I just talked to Sprint support through chat and they told me this:

Isabella V.: I have determined that the problems you have described are being caused by a cell site outage in your area. We are currently experiencing an outage across the market. Network Engineers are working diligently to correct the issue. They estimate repair to complete by 07/24/2014 08:40:00 CST. The ticket number for reference is 3270799. Sprint network engineers have been working aggressively and they are trying to fix the issue before estimated timeframe.

So, it looks like there is a known issue in the area.     :td:

Don't be too down, maybe its because they are scrambling around installing b26 carrier cards everywhere!

Google Now alerts are useless, they can be up to 30 minutes late. Sometimes I get them after the warning has already ended.

No, nothing unusual installed, am not rooted or anything either.

These alerts aren't handled by that. I was not getting them before there was any LTE at all around here. I was getting them on my HTC One, GS3 and EVO LTE before my N5.

I wasnt saying it was handled by eCSFB, obviously not, but a similar issue that maybe some software issue tower by tower is not turned on in certain areas?

  8. Ok, so it sounds like things are working properly for you. You can change the reminder settings I believe. I need to be able to get them, it's important.

So it would appear that you have to use Hangouts to get them. I use Textra as well, and have never received an alert. That's rather unfortunate, as we should be able to get alerts no matter what.

If the alerts actually come as an SMS, this is likely Textra filtering them out, apps should not do that, maybe contact the devs?? I got the same alerts before the Hangouts SMS integration.

  9. What do you use as your texting app? Do you use Google Voice integration?

I use hangouts and have full GV integration and get ALL (too many) alerts.

Edit: They do not come as SMS though, they come as popups over whatever you are doing.

They also keep coming OVER AND OVER again every 2-3min after you dismiss them until the alert expires. Maybe you should be thankful you do not get them!?

  10. I was thinking about that recently. I haven't gotten a single one either. And I really need to. A few months ago, there was an Amber Alert that went out, and I only found out because people's phones around me were going off. I get called back to work when those kinds of things happen.

I've gotten all of them, in fact I had to turn off amber alerts because I am more interested in the weather alerts...weird.
