  1. Yeppers

Something is wrong with a few of their towers

    And some definite dead spots.

Take your phone up leesville to the four way stop sign at Mt Herman church.

You will have almost full bars, but will lose data.

    Every time.

Tried with my s3 and the wife's evo 3d

They really need to "fix" things instead of putting them in this crazy stage

They turned 4g on at the ray Rd tower the other day, but had nothing setup to route the data.

I live not 500ft from that 4 way stop. I have an airrave for obvious reasons :(

  2. got clarification this morning - the tower is actually on Wilmington St behind VIP formal wear.

Also, 2 more lte towers today:

    Apex (holt rd)

Cary (carpenter upchurch rd/louis stephens rd)

2 towers every day or two, is this pace even possible??

Still waiting for something in the brier creek/RTP area, grrr. Brier creek has got to be the worst area in wake county in regards to having a near full signal but being unable to load google.com

  3. Not interesting at all once you think about it. Radio settings are in the NVRAM. Just like your phone number is. Just like the NVRAM settings are not part of the baseband/modem flash. Any settings in NVRAM will always be updated by other "pieces" in the upgrade that people call firmware. Simply commands to update a value in NVRAM. Now, stop and think about the different hodge podge thrown together stuff that is one people's phones since they may have done the last two baseband upgrades of just the modem itself. So now they are missing the various NVRAM tweaks for the past two upgrades! DOH!!

Throw this into the mix along with the various upgrades going on to towers a there you have more to the mix of people saying the LTE is better now and some say it is worse. Fun fun! You should always upgrade everything, kernel, ROM, modem/baseband, PRI, etc if possible. You can skip the HBOOT and recovery, but never anything else otherwise you have no leg to stand on about something not working or signal is not good on your phone.

RRU'd back to latest ICS, then took the JB OTA update to make sure i got everything. That's how i always do it, even HBoot and recovery, then I just unlock again and reflash TWRP and flash my ROM of choice (or in this case go back to the same ROM i was already on).

  4. Yeah the scan time was 30 before the update I believe.

    And BSR was 16.

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

Interesting, these new values are part of the firmware itself, not the ROM. I upgraded to MeanBean, had a ton of issues so I reflashed my nandroid backup of Viper4G (which I've never had a problem with) and I still have the new values.

I wonder if I will see the LTE improvements without jellybeans new sprint connection optimizer, I'll have to go drive down 540 and Six Forks later today to find out. If not I'll see if I can implement Connection Optimizer into ICS.

  5. Got it when I was heading east for Turkey Day on Tuesday at 540 and Six Forks by toggling Airplane Mode. Confirmed the sites were added to my LTE Records file.

But then when i came back through the area on the way home Friday, I wanted to see if it would connect automatically, assuming since the records file was populated, it would scan for LTE when i entered the area.

    Nope, no dice.

  6. According to the store at brier creek, they are claiming LTE towers are already starting to come live in the area. They said it was on their sprint intranet. My buddies that work for Sprint could not find anything indicating that. They couldn't even find anything mentioning as much as we could see that several towers have moved to ehrpd etc.

And when one of them asked around, the reply he got was January at the earliest for first towers having LTE turned on.

I'm hoping that is NOT the case.

Thats funny, because sitting in the brier creek area with full bars, I cannot even load Google.com. It literally times out. It has to have the lowest capacity tower in the Triangle area or something, it is ridiculous.

  7. That's what "Map trip" is for : start the app, go to map trip, press start.

Then when you exit the app, it keeps running. You're notified by the icon in the status bar.

Exactly. The whole point of my posts was that I would like the addition of a setting that forced "map trip" to start automatically and immediately when the app was launched. This would allow me to make a profile to start the app when my phone was docked and have it constantly tracking without ANY user intervention while I drive across the country.

  8. Where the hell is Raleigh/Durham NC?

in one of S4GRU's posts way back it said Raleigh/Durham was scheduled to start in Round 2, and would see LTE coming on in spots in August (I think).

the RTP area is a technology leader on the east coast, and yet we are still stuck with Sprint's overloaded dial-up like EVDO around here (MUCH worse since the iPhone launched, cannot stream pandora at all really anymore.)

I've been a Sprint customer for almost 10 years, getting a little frustrated, but I'm going to stick around as long as I can, because I think NV and LTE will rock, IF they ever get here.

  9. Are you saying the notification bar icon disappears when you do a manual Map Trip after awhile? Because there's already a notification bar icon that appears when you're mapping and remains persistent when you hit Home and then open another app and have it running....though I haven't tested it long term yet. I will be Friday however. I wonder though if your issues have anything to do with the fact you're on an Evo LTE? I keep seeing people comment about the kind of flaky reception at least with LTE specifically on that phone.

Unfortunately this has nothing to do with the phone. All I want is for sensorly to give the option to automatically start the map trip as soon as the app is launched.

  10. There's an option in Menu/Parameters/General called "Flush app from memory". I disabled it but I'm not sure if that's the exact behavior I am/you are looking for.

When I drive, I hit Map Trip and Start. Data collection still occurs even if I switch to another app (just don't turn the screen off.)

Yea I've tried toggling this without any difference (that I can notice). Thanks for the tip though!

I think it would be great, and a lot of people would love it, if there was a setting to make it START on the Map Trip screen and automatically start the tracking. Then we could switch to any other app we want (navigation, music, whatever) and there would be a nice icon in the notification bar showing us that we are tracking and helping Sensorly build their maps!

  11. About one week ago I checked and it did not start mapping immediately.

basically I have a Tasker task that as soon as I dock my phone, it starts sensorly, starts navigation, and starts playing music. So sensorly is running in the background without me touching it at all (it started to the welcome screen, i believe).

Sensorly was not mapping my signal during this time.

EDIT: I see sensorly has updated since my last test, was this recently added? I will test it again.

Ok I would like to revise my previous statement. Can you add an option for Map Trip to start every time the app is started?

While it looks like the app surely collects info while it is running, if you switch to any other app or even press Home, it looks like it stops collecting data and is even sometimes killed. This prevents me from playing music or using navigation and still mapping while I drive automatically.

Thanks, cool to see you here listening to users!
