  1. So I was in Murphy, NC area.  Got a little LTE and 3G mapped in that area, not much though.  It is all roaming.  USCC and VZW.

VZW roaming is weird.  I didn't hit a lot of VZW towers across three counties, but some would be 1x talk/text only, some would connect to EVDO and have no data connection.  Then some towers would give me 1Mbps on EVDO.

USCC roaming was great.  EVDO was 2Mbps and LTE was 5MHz on 700 and would pull 10~20Mbps.

On a Nexus 5!? You got USCC LTE on a Nexus device!?

  2. What I mean is that for TDD configuration, they take a certain portion of their 20Mhz to uplink, I think it is a 3/2 configuration?  So roughly 12Mhz on the download and 8Mhz on the upload?  Which means in 20+20 CA, it'd be 24Mhz on the download, and 16 Mhz on the upload, whereas B4 is often 20x20, where 20 is dedicated to the downlink and 20 is dedicated to the uplink.

EDIT: Since they are prioritizing downlink (which is more important, anyways.) they technically have more bandwidth available for users due to the TDD configuration so they can actually boast about having the fastest network, given the technologies for both carriers are the same. (ie: 4x2MIMO, etc.)

TDD is time based, not frequency based. In your example of a 3/2 configuration, in a 5 second time window, for a total of 3 seconds, the full 20mhz will be dedicated to download, and for a total of 2 seconds the full 20mhz will be dedicated to upload. For 20+20 CA a full 40mhz would be dedicated to upload and download respectively during their respective time slots.

  3. Ok thanks. I had misunderstood the original statement.

Question. I know that after porting my GV# to Sprint, I would be able to use any texting app to send and receive from my phone. And the images would look good. But would I be able to use the hangout app on the iPad to send and receive sms?

Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Yes (but not MMS) just like you can from your PC

  4. I traveled across central Iowa yesterday north of I-80. I was on US Cellular according to SignalCheck and there was no roaming symbol. It was 3G.

I roam on USCC regularly in eastern NC (where I am now). Roamed on them today in the deer stand and had EVDO with the roaming symbol. Updated the PRL and it stayed the same. No pseudo native (like I always see with Carolina West Wireless in the mountains) here in NC with USCC yet

Side Note: Nexus 5 was WAY better holding on to EVDO before dropping to roaming, I bounced back and forth in this area with it. The Nexus 6P just parks on roaming before I ever get to this area. The 6P is WAYYYYY better at getting and holding an LTE signal, though.

  5. Seeing little to zero band 26 optimization since band 26 was initially deployed a WHILE ago, does not seem to be any sort of a priority. I call this out on every survey I get sent after interacting with Sprint customer service.

Ex. Sitting on band 25, walking into home/office/shopping center and see it drop to band 26, take two more steps and it drops to decently strong (but terribly slow) 3G. It should not (and will not....eventually) be this way. Band 26 needs to be cranked up and tilt adjusted, but at this point I think it is obvious that Raleigh is low priority and they just turned it on 1+ years ago to give us SOMETHING (which is appreciated, I guess).

Edit: I also frequent the much more rural Eastern NC, from Greenville to the coast. LTE is available but sparse when you leave the highways/cities, making music streaming sometimes difficult. Also something band 26 could and should alleviate. I wish they could crank it up as soon as they turn it on to dramatically increase coverage in rural areas and in-building, much like TMo does with band 12, instead of just turning it on.

  6. AJ... thank you for (hopefully) ending this discussion, which quite frankly doesn't belong in this thread.

Any new info as to what SIM the 6P will be utilizing?

I did receive a 4FF CSIM (V5) from Sprint yesterday.

Anyone order a usb-c cable from OnePlus?  They have started selling them, prices start at $5.49.

I just ordered the 4FF (nano) CSIM and USIM so that I am hopefully ready when I finally get the phone. Just hopped on chat twice, first time I said I needed a nano sim for Moto X and they ordered the USIM, hopped back on and said I needed a nano sim for the Moto X Pure Edition and they ordered the CSIM.

  7. No, it's seen as Domestic Roaming and is 100% free of charge. It counts towards her normal minutes and data usage. The rep was wrong.

This is good to know for when we go back. Their maps however show all data coverage on the island as 1x Extended Data (what she was on) and "International LTE" which is why the rep said she needed to add some kind of world roaming package for a fee. I checked to make sure Data Roaming was turned on, why would her iPhone 6 not latch on to LTE? Did I miss a setting? I'm not very well versed with iPhone settings.

  8. I was just in PR for a week and was very very impressed with the B25 coverage, much better than Raleigh. I only fell back to 3G twice that I noticed and those were very short lived, and once was in the rain forest. The LTE speeds on the other hand were....bad. The fastest I saw was 2.8mbps and I was often under 1mbps with an excellent signal. They badly need Spark.

Is B26 planned on the island? I don't think it would be necessary for coverage from what I saw, but an additional carrier would surely be beneficial speed-wise.  EDIT: Never mind, I see that it is not possible, shame.

Also, my girlfriend on VZW was stuck on 1x Roaming the entire week (I assume on Sprint). It was nice to see the tables turned for once, her phone was completely useless when not on the resort WiFi or tethered to mine

  9. Kind of unfortunate. If you want to be the best, you have to not perform and act like a last place carrier. TV ads and ads at airports and billboards are very important and is not money down the drain. I've only seen like one sprint ad over the past few months on TV.

Weird, I bet I saw 5+ last night alone. All for the $100/10GB plan. Maybe they are targeting Raleigh since the network is finally (somewhat) improved around here? They still have virtually no b26 optimization though....grrr

  10. $4.20 with your "$1 premium" would still be a signficantly depressed sale price to what Sprint stock was originally issued at and what many minority stockholders may have later purchased at (up to $10/share).  As previously cited, we live in nation of laws that aim towards "fairness" (language used by courts ruling on corporate law).  Why would anybody invest in a company in which the controlling owner (SoftBank) can take advantage through market price manipulation?  There have been major court cases regarding the attempted squeeze outs of minority stockholders.  Please see below.

    Legal explanation:  http://www.pepperlaw.com/publications/cash-outs-of-minority-stockholders-a-delaware-perpective-2000-07-11/

    Source law:  http://delcode.delaware.gov/title8/c001/sc09/

I've been a part of 2 class action lawsuits where this happened. Company was sold in full to SanDisk for one, majority shareholder took it private in the other. We got nothing in the latter instance after going to court, the court agreed that the current market price when the sale happened (which had been tanking) was the "fair value" at the time, and the majority stake holder was paying a 5% premium (This would be what a $0.20 premium in the case of Sprint!?). Case Dismissed.

For the former instance, SanDisk was ordered to increase their 10% premium by 10% (to 11%) and issue checks to all class participants, I think I got like $81 in the mail well over a year after the deal closed. WOOHOO

Lost significant money in both cases. SoftBank could easily do the same, be sued, and send you a check for $0.57 (or whatever insignificant sum the Judge decides) and all would be good in the eyes of the law, or the case should just as easily get dismissed all together.

  11. Yeah, better then the 1x data for sure!

Though not sure we can expect LTE. They are a rural roaming ppartner with VZW. I haven't verified, but I think the only LTE they are deploying is VZW B13.

Same with Carolina West Wireless. They are partners with both Sprint and Verizon, and the Sprint 3G roaming is 100% native, but unfortunately they have only deployed B13 LTE :(

  12. I wasn't sure if what I was suggesting with the PCS aggregation between all carriers of it were possible or not, just that if it were, then that would be a good use of it to make it work better, granted had it been able to work similarly to a 15x15, which now doesn't seem likely or even possible.

Again, I'm not advocating the sale of PCS, just I'd rather see it be sold than band 41. Sprint just needs to get more sites in operation either using fiber backhaul, or the use of band 41 wireless backhaul I've been reading about lately. The other option, if there were a way of getting it done somehow, is a merger with T-Mobile for their towers, just without John Legere being involved.

PCS will never be sold, ever. Unless Sprint is in bankruptcy, it is not an option. They will sell every bit of b41 before they sell any PCS.

  13. So how do you go from that to Son isn't willing to pump money into Sprint if they need it? That is still a huge logical leap with nothing to support it in your underlined portion.

Because he loves to troll here, every.single.day

I roll my eyes and skip past his posts most times as they rarely add any value to the thread.

  14. I did it over the phone, just had to conference in the previous account owner and she had to give her PIN, then she was able to hang up and I answered all the questions to create my own account. It was painless, but this was 5+ years ago.

  15. EVO 4G LTE didn't get the wifi calling update did it? That is the latest phone I have sitting in a drawer somewhere.

I want the router because the router is awesome.

I currently have 2 netgear wnr2000's in my house to get "meh" coverage, one upstairs and one down. From what I read the ASUS may just cover my entire house and at much faster speeds, and I've already been thinking about buying one. Even if I couldn't use the Sprint QoS calling features (on my current phone) the new router would certainly boost the WiFi experience in my home, and for free.

  16. FYI to your Nexus folks, even after stating I make most of my calls over Wifi via google voice (which I do) and checking with the supervisor, there was no way the rep could find to override it and put a order through.

You MUST have a wifi calling phone on your account (as others have stated, I just wanted to try). So...theyre sending me an updated airrave...meh.

Now, how to get a wifi calling phone on my account for a few days....

  17. Rep said he'll call me back after talking to his supervisor. He knew exactly what I was talking about and saw everything that's needed to order it except there's no option to actually order it. Literally he said it showed "shipping soon" for the order option.

Looks like most people will need to wait til next week before everything is sorted out internally.

lilotimz, did they ask you about your phone at all? she kept telling me my phone wasn't compatible (nexus 5) with WiFi calling, which ofc it isnt, but the router would be great.
