  1. It may not be in the map, but they've been announced as being part of the neutral hosted DAS at Levi's.  It also seems like Sprint has been working on joining the existing DAS setups at AT&T Park and Oakland Coliseum but I haven't seen anything about them trying to join the one at Oracle Arena.

From the first PDF you linked, I found some juicy bits relevant to Sprint. On page 12, when talking about DAS upgrade at AT&T Park earlier this year Feb-March, the say:

"Part of this year’s DAS renovations include a

new room specifically being built for Sprint’s
DAS equipment, a sort of re-arrange-the-house
construction project that saw the ballpark wall
off half its painting services workshop to make
space for Sprint’s gear. During our visit we saw
workers putting up the racks that will hold the
Sprint head end gear, as thick fiber cables
    snaked in the doorway"

Let's hope some Spark is coming or will come with that upgrade!!

  2. I am heading to Italy (Rome, then southern Italy by motorcycle) in October. I have friends that live in Venice. Would it make any sense to have them go in and buy micro-sim and mail it to me ahead of the trip? Would that save any hassle from me getting this done in Rome upon arrival? I would at least know the number to give to family in US prior to leaving, correct?

And if so..I should have them ask for this plan? Vodafone Italy offers what they call SMART PASSPORT, for €3 a day you get 50 minutes and SMS to call and text all over europe and unlimited data for the whole day.

    Thanks

If you have time to have someone send you a working SIM, do it.

  3. got a new b41 tower somewhere in Foster City.  Sometimes I wonder if they are doing any work on b41 anymore.  I've been waiting for them to upgrade some clear sites a mile from the Levi stadium.

There's a good article describing in detail the efforts made to allow all 68K fans access to video and internet over wifi.

    http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/03/the-49ers-plan-to-build-the-greatest-stadium-wi-fi-network-of-all-time/

Most of it is about Wi-Fi, but here are a few cool details:

    * 680 access points (1 for every 100 fans), mostly on 802.11ac 5GHz 20MHz channels

    * No bridging of access points, so all IP traffic is effeciently routed

    * 40-GBit fiber backbone

    * 1700 Bluetooth "beacons", unclear if it's limited to Apple's iBeacon technology

    * Order food/drinks via app, have runners deliver it to your seat

The relevant part to our group is this snippet:

"Besides building its own Wi-Fi network, the team will build a carrier-neutral distributed antenna system to boost cellular signals within the stadium."

I don't know anyone involved with that stadium, but would be interesting to learn what Sprint and other carriers have deployed there.

  4. eCSFB was a bitch when i drove by yesterday. Hopefully Ericsson gets off their butts and push the software updates quickly.

eCSFB was working fine this morning, but all that happened is I picked up a very distant B41 tower with slow speeds.

South San Jose launch is a joke. Maybe if they had B26 there, it wouldn't be as bad. I bet 3G works great there with all the phones fighting over scraps of LTE. :)

  5. How is the new custer launch in SF? Are things getting better out there? I am going to SF at the end of the month, hopefully all those cluster launched sites get LTE.

Seems like everywhere I go, it's still just 3G. The density of LTE towers is low, so when I do get it, it's maybe 2Mbit with towers overloaded. We made progress, but need another 6 months of work.
  6. Yep. I had no data or voice at home or in the store last night at 4th and King. It seemed...oddly reckless? It seems like they really took down every site around at once. I thought the traffic from Giants fans had broken something.

Reckless, but apparently necessary. Expect that to last about 2 weeks if process is same as in other markets.

Then it's back to normal with no LTE like the quiet before the storm.

Then LTE about 2 weeks later.

  7. I just happened to read this earlier and didn't even realize it was just published today. I want to upgrade my Galaxy S3 but can't decide between the two. It was good to have multiple perspectives for each phone. Seems like you can't go wrong with either one and it's more of a personal preference between HTC and LG.

One thing about the camera, if you know how to use the camera, there aren't as problems with it as others make it out to be. You can take daytime pictures and have them come out just fine. It takes the right amount of effort in composing the shot our using hdr as needed. In exchange, you'll be taking night photos that no amount of fiddling can get you.

  8. You can send and receive MMS via Wi-Fi Calling? Just wondering if it's a nationwide or otherwise localized issue. Wondering if/how I should tell Sprint about it.

I have this issue with hangouts. Haven't tried to see if messages app also has mms problems with Wi-Fi calling enabled.
  9. OK, Wi-Fi Calling is now enabled. The CSR was changing stuff on my account and maybe it took a couple of hours to work through the system. That makes sense, as the web site says as much when changing Wi-Fi stuff.

Regarding MMS. My buddy sent an MMS to me but I didn't even get a notification that there was something to download. Just nothing at all, like it was never sent. I also sent an MMS but I don't think it's working as it still says "Sending" under the picture I sent (I use Hangouts as the SMS/MMS client).

Is the MMS problem a known bug, or is that how it's supposed to work? I'll probably disable Wi-Fi calling if MMS doesn't work. What a shame.

I don't understated why mms is an issue. With Wi-Fi on, mms notification comes over like sms, but gets downloaded via Wi-Fi.
  10. Has anybody had trouble actually enabling wifi calling?

I received the firmware update and installed it, then went into settings to enable wifi calling. Went through the steps but afterwords I had an "authentication error" in the notification bar. Kept trying to enable, same result. That was a few days ago.

I logged into my account online and tried to remove the "block" on my phone (I'm the only member of a Framily plan) but it wouldn't let me, even though it mentions Wi-Fi Calling as a feature of my plan elsewhere on the site.

So today I contacted Sprint via the Chat Now on the web site. The CSR was very helpful, and we tried a bunch of things, but nothing worked. She directed me to the Wi-Fi Calling app (I didn't notice it was there) and it always prompts me to enable wifi calling, and when I do it does some stuff then restarts, but wifi calling is still disabled.

So she recommended that I contact another number for advanced technical support and she made notes in the file to help.

Has anybody else experienced problems like this? I'm guessing it's something on the Sprint side and not my device.

    Any thoughts?

I had this problem when I first tried it. Have up, and randomly tried it a few days later. This time it worked.

Only issue is that mms won't download when that mode is enabled.

  11. For no good reason, I checked the coverage map at coverage.sprint.com, and it shows that pretty much ALL of San Jose should have LTE coverage right now. I am still getting 3G in the south half of San Jose, for the most part. Is it worth opening a ticket with Sprint support? In the two months since the cluster launch of NV sites, and since the official LTE launch of San Jose, nothing has changed in terms of my experience on the network.

    Marc

Go for it. Be sure to use street corners and addresses instead of tower id's from this site.
  12. It really is cramped up there. I wasn't thinking when I made that comment. Ok, I hope it's not in the status bar. :)

So it's not the HD Voice icon that now goes into the status bar. But if you enable Wi-Fi calling, you get a new icon there. And in typical HTC fashion, the icon is there whether you're on Wi-Fi or not.
  13. Probably similar to the screen shot I saw in the g3 thread. It's an unobtrusive "hd" on the phone screen. I'd like something on the status bar myself.

My M8 doesn't have any more room in the status bar!

  14. Well, it's now clear that San Francisco was at the complete bottom of metro areas when Sprint makes an announcement like this one:  "As we finish the rip and replace of our 3G network, as well as reach 471 4G LTE markets,..."

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/blogs/sprint-perspectives/optimizing-americas-newest-network.htm

The only upside will be fast speeds we'll see now that most SF residents have left Sprint for other carriers... in another 6 months...

  15. Found the instructions to do self activation, but now I can't make or receive calls. I try to make a call and I get some guy saying "The number you are trying to call is incorrect". The only thing that DOES work is 4G data. Weird.

4G gets activated via SIM. Are you on Sprint's network while doing this? Did you wait for PRL and Profile updates to complete after the reboot? It probably won't hurt to do it again. These are the steps that Sprint did in the store to fix my phone when it was having connectivity issues. The latest software update from HTC luckily did away with the need for that. Do you know if your M8 got the HTC update last month?

    Martin

  16. Yeah but I'm not sure if that ever worked. I always get a message saying the device is already activated.

It's not the self activation from menus, but a code you type into the dialer. I'm on the train, so hard for me to look it up, but I think I posted steps this forum.
  17. Although I still can't roam, I discovered something that may be related to my problem:

When I force to CDMA only, it connects to 3G, but again, no data. Same thing as when I force roam on Verizon. However, when I pop the sim card out and put it back in, then my 3G (sprint) connects. But if I toggle to 4G and back to 3G, I lose data again.

This does not work when roaming, but maybe there's a connection here.

Ideas? Is this a bad sim card? phone? Other?

Did you try redoing self activation?
  18. Was anyone able to confirm for certain that Verizon data roaming works on the HTC One M8?

I'm trying to pick between the LG G2 vs LG G Flex vs HTC One M8, and I'm heavily leaning in favor of the M8. But I *need* the Verizon 1x data roaming, and the coverage maps on Sprint are scaring me.

I'm hoping it's just a map glitch -- I can't imagine why some Spark devices would get Verizon 1x, and others wouldn't. But it would be cool to hear that first hand from someone who actually has the device.

Yes, data roaming on vzw 1x works on the M8.

  19. I did the drive towards the end of April and was also extremely disappointed. Roaming was almost as bad as having no service. Meanwhile my moms AT&T work phone was pretty solid but also ran into some dead zones.

Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk

I did the drive in June and yes, data was useless with lots of dropped calls. My HTC One M8 would get into a state where it would not call anymore. Luckily, a software update made it better inv the way back.

Have all the I5 towers simply been GMO'd and left for later?
