  1. Never mind on the above post, I gave up and just put root and a custom recovery on it. Quick question: How come my SignalCheckPro doesn't show the LTE Band like I've seen on a few screenshots here?
  2. I can't quite figure out why my system had no driver issues when I run adb reboot recovery, but once it is in recovery it tells me that there are no drivers for my device. I am running the latest adb via the SDK update. Some things I've done: 1) Change USB Cable/Port 2) Uninstall drivers, install manually 3) Make sure I run the update for the SDK and have USB driver under EXTRAS checked 4) Download the USB driver on my own and try to install that way. No luck! Any ideas?
  3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217 The OTA has been posted for 4.4.3
  4. I'm rather certain that after 6 months that most logic for the passionate types has gone out the window. Shine on you crazy diamond. Mash away!
  5. Obviously I knew that if I was having fun with you about it. I just had to raz someone named MacinJosh for getting it mixed up.
  6. Probably because Google doesn't do anything related to WWDC.
  7. Google Now gave me a card about the Nexus 8 that lead me to a site that instantly tried to install an apk when the page loaded. I know a lot of people love Google Now, but I find it mostly useless outside of the weather. I had to turn off public transportation simply because there are about 20 options within a block of my office in downtown Chicago. Sure it gives me my favorite team scores but it consistently spams me with other teams despite selecting NO to seeing other teams about 5 times. The most ridiculous card comes from "things you researched."
  8. I updated to the latest Google Play Services, Newest Camera and Newest Hangouts. It seems to have solved my battery drain. This picture is from when I last unplugged it at work yesterday. I hardly used it today as I enjoyed the great weather today. Total screen on time is about 3 hours. I'm on stock, unrooted. As you can see it was on my Wifi most of the time.
  9. Is there a reason why this phone continues to go to GLOBAL when LTE is recommended under Preferred Network Type?
  10. And I purchased it based off of that. I didn't realize it couldn't handle Spark until I came here wondering why my speeds were so low. Certainly annoyed but it isn't the end of the world. It will make me hesitant on my next purchase and puts another notch in the column for considering a move to TMO and the cheaper plans off contract.
  11. Considering that network is already established and running on other phones, that feels more like a tinfoil hat approach to what is going on. Thanks for confirming what seemed like an obvious setup. Not sure I get the complaints, we know it will be here by Monday. Considering we have waited months for it, another day or two isn't going to change much in the big picture.
  12. What is the app of choice these days to monitor wake locks?
  13. At this point I have no idea what I am looking forward to more: actual battery life again or the Sparc update.
  14. Has anyone had issues with the phone automatically switching from 3G to LTE? I ride the brown line in Chicago quite a bit and there are some large LTE dead zones along that route. On my HTC One I would lose LTE as I was passing through the Ranch Triangle/Old Town region and it would quickly pick LTE a few blocks past that. With my new N5 on the same Sprint network it will switch over to 3G and stay there until I flip the airplane mode. I've taken about 2 dozen trips across this region in the last week and it happens every time.
  15. So, why exactly is the N5 still blocked from Bands 26/41 on Sprint? What would be the reasons to wait on the software update?
  16. I have the same issues using the following phones: Nexus 5, HTC One, and Galaxy S 3/4.
  17. It's been a few months since I have been on the board, so I am a bit rusty at this stuff again. What is the best way to see which LTE band I am on? I just took delivery of a Nexus 5 (32GB) from Play and activated it this morning.
  18. With iDEN sunsetting this month, what is the realistic expectation that LTE800 will be broadcasting in Chicago any time soon? I'm currently considering picking up a HTC One but due to the lack of a Snapdragon 800 in it, I'm wavering. As it is, the connectivity on my Galaxy Nexus is spotty at best on the north side with almost zero building penetration.
  19. Anyone else in Chicago having very spotty issues with coverage in the Old Town area? 3G has almost always been non-existent there and for about five weeks there was LTE coverage. However it's almost all but gone at this point.
  20. I might look into an Airwave, but for now I use my Google Voice integration via Gmail and the Gvoice plugin for Chrome. This way I can hear a tone over my laptop speakers when I get a SMS or phone call. Also, the calls over Gmail do not use up minutes on your plan.
  21. Thanks Robert, I do understand all of that (old vs new vs future), but I think everyone needs to understand the size of the crowd in the Wrigley area. The ballpark can hold just a bit over 41,000 and you can add on maybe 1500 to 2500 on the rooftops; add in another 2500-3000 on the night of a concert. Then there are no less than 30 bars within a 5 minute walk of the park that are typically full on the day of a game/event (They have to close several major streets due to the size of the crowd). And finally the entire neighborhood around the park is home to more than 100,000 people. I wouldn't know how to estimate the amount of people that work there or those that are commuting. However I would estimate that a typical summer day has nearly 200,000 people within range of 2-3 towers. I'm not sure how Sprint could ever make this a reliable neighborhood without a massive investment. At the very least I will have moved before that happens. My guess is that days like New Years Eve, St Patricks, Halloween and other major drinking holidays will be serviceable with the near-term upgrades. I will say that my patience has paid off. I am able to use my phone on about 90% of my trip on the way to work these days with only the Old Town area being the major dead zone. Earlier this year my phone was usable about 1-2% of the the trip.
  22. I live in the Wrigley area and can tell you that we have issues there all the time. Even this weekend with the Tbox drunk-fest on Clark Street I had problems getting service at my place. Any time there is an event at the park or a very busy night on Clark Street, you will have problems with service. Sadly, if you don't switch to Airplane mode on your Android device it will burn through your entire battery in under 25 minutes while trying to connect to a signal.
  23. I've been trying to hit up most of the area around the Uptown/Loop/Old Town/Lakeview/Lincoln Park and West Loop on Sensorly. Most of the LTE is still spotty getting about 3 down on Speedtest and about 2 down on Sensorly. The best I've seen yet was siting under the Fullerton EL stop. I've attached a screenshot of that.
  24. As long as they are done with the NV upgrades all around you. They are still busy with completing Chicago and it can be spotty in parts.
