  1. When it finally attached to my line, it switched back to $5/mo. So I removed it, and will tweet Marcelo tomorrow with proof that it was $0 to get it added to my account for that price.

Darn. No DC for free here either.

It seems like the Everything Data and Framily plans so far do not qualify for the free SDC.  I wonder why that is the case.  Sprint should make SDC available to all legacy and current plans.

  2. Yes, that's the option. It took 3 days of adding it for it to take on my account, but it's fully working this morning.

Awesome.  I just added that option to my account.  We'll see if it kicks in.  I even downloaded the Google Play app in anticipation.  Damn 3 days is such a long time.  I already want to test this feature out with my bro.

  3. Where did you find it?  It doesn't show up for my account.

It should look like this where the Sprint International Value Roaming option should fall under the International-> Data/text while roaming internationally section.  Since I added it already, it is not in that section anymore.

Your screenshot doesn't show that you even have the Data/text while roaming internationally section which is where your problem is.  Call Sprint to find out why that section is missing.  Also the press release says you can go to a Sprint store and they can add it for you.

  4. I can't wait to hear when people actually start to take advantage of the International Value Roaming data feature.  I am curious about the process of such as things below to confirm that you are under the International Value Roaming data feature and not some of Sprint's more expensive international plans.

    1.  Do you need to setup your Sprint phone before hand in order to use the 2G data?

    2.  Will you receive some sort of text message from Sprint confirming you are under the International Value Roaming plan.  (I know that with Tmobile my friend says he gets a text message that confirms that you get free international roaming data.)

  5. Perhaps you're right. I certainly want to see Sprint expand their international roaming offers. Who knows, perhaps this is the "in" to talk to Hutchinson Whampoa about setting up a more affordable roaming agreement with their footprint.

HWL has coverage in a number of countries:

    • United Kingdom (Hutchison 3G UK t/a Three UK)
    • Ireland (Hutchison 3G Ireland t/a Three Ireland)
    • Austria (Hutchison Drei Austria t/a Drei Austria)
    • Denmark (Hi3G Denmark t/a Tre Danmark)
    • Sweden (Hi3G Access t/a Tre Sverige)
    • Hong Kong (3 Hong Kong)
    • Indonesia (Hutchinson 3 Indonesia t/a 3 Indonesia)
    • Italy (H3G t/a 3 Italia)

It'd be awesome if Sprint was able to get access to that footprint.

I certainly want to see Sprint expand their international data coverage to many parts of the world but that is going to take time.  I expect Sprint should have a more reasonable list by the end of 2015.

  6. ZVG?!

It was ZVF before but I guess in internal testing they found a bug so it is now ZVG.  Honestly I had hoped that the ZVG update would have bumped the Android baseline to 5.1 but that is wishful thinking on my part.

  7. When I added the new International value roaming to my account I noticed that in the list of options there were other choices that you could check to "enable international data" for example. Do you have to pick those options too or does simply selecting this new international value option trump those other settings?

The new international value roaming provides unlimited 2G speeds while the other 3 options you see are for buckets of higher speed 3G data.  They sell 100 MB, 200 MB and 500 MB of 3G speeds which is for those that absolutely need fast internet and can't deal with the 2G speeds .  Once that bucket is up, you will fall back to the 2G speeds in the international value roaming plan.  Personally when travelling all that matters is to be able to look up Google Maps, Tripadvisor, etc which 2G speeds is sufficient enough.

You do not need to pick those other options and make sure you only select the international value roaming for $0.00 so you don't get dinged extra charges.  I added it to my SERO Premium plan this morning.  Just wish Sprint would have added Canada to its initial partners for this feature but I trust Marcelo to come through as time goes on in adding more and more countries.

  8. Are you saying that the G4 will not have band 12 LTE?

Its too early to tell.  Untli we have the FCC documents, we can't confirm at the moment whether it will contain the CCA bands.  Given how the Sprint versions of the HTC One M9 and Galaxy S6 contain the CCA LTE bands, I don't see why the LG G4 would suddenly not have the CCA LTE bands in it.  It would be real strange if they did that.

  9. http://www.sprint.com/landings/unlimited-plus-samsung-galaxy/index.html#!/

Supposedly throttled at 2G speeds; specific country list:

    • Argentina
    • Brazil
    • Chile
    • Costa Rica
    • El Salvador
    • Germany
    • Guatemala
    • Japan
    • Mexico
    • Nicaragua
    • Panama
    • Russia
    • South Korea
    • Spain
    • United Kingdom

Hopefully they can broaden the coverage (*cough* Canada) and make this option available on all unlimited plans.

I am liking that Sprint is trying to compete with Tmobile in offering free international data roaming as part of a perk on its cell phone plans.  Hopefully Sprint over time can add more countries to the list all over the world.

Sure but gotta admit, not having Canada while having Guatemala is an absolute joke.

How dare Sprint not include "America's Hat"

A testdrive program like TMO's - but longer - would be a good boost to sprint's fortunes.

The non tech crowd believe sprint sucks so no way will they transfer their number to test sprint but a "burner" phobe num with zero cost?

    Why not?

That could almost be sprint's slogan.

I agree that Sprint needs a "test drive" program to get people to try Sprint service without the strings attached.  It could be for the iPhone or the Galaxy S6.  If the test drive was just for the iPhone, they mind as well do it and take full advantage of that 20 billion dollar deal they made with Apple 4 years ago.

  10. the funny thing about how they build these...any phone really

How many get covered with a case anyway

Yup and for me as a case user, I the outside material doesn't matter as much as the internals do.  A perfect example is the GS6...they made it a nice unibody design which is good to hold since its the first time they get away from all that plastic stuff but they did do some compromises with the lack of removable battery, smaller battery and lack of SD card slot.  You would have to think that if they were are going to put an unremovable battery that it should be at least the same capacity as the previous generation if not higher.

  11. If there are no more delays, 600mhz should be usable around 2020. If Sprint can't finish their 800 deployment by then barring some random ibez issues they deserve to fail and having participated in the auction likely won't have made a difference at that point.

I totally agree with you on that.

    No doubt that TMO

Has inbuilding problems but they have more active lte towers than sprint.

Currently, Carter said, T-Mobile has fiber backhaul connections to 50,000 of its sites, out of 60,000 total sites.

Those 50k sites have to be somewhere.

Well to be fair to Sprint, Tmobile/AT&T needed fiber backhaul much earlier than Sprint did because HSPA required sufficient backhaul to run properly so they had a huge head start in upgrading its towers to fiber.  Verizon and Sprint did not need to rush to upgrade its backhaul as soon because EVDO Rev A maxes out a 3.1 Mbps.  Had EVDO Rev B been available way earlier like 2003-2004, then perhaps Sprint and Verizon would have considered upgrading to EVDO Rev B which requires fiber backhaul since it could support up to 14.7 Mbps.

  12. It can also be relieved by finishing deployment of the low band spectrum they already have and densifying the network, both of which they are actively working on. Both which will likely be finished before 600mhz can even be used.

Sent from my SM-T217S using Tapatalk

That is very true but 800 MHz LTE deployment in the western part of the US has become slow to a crawl.  Hopefully this picks up in the latter half of 2015.  Looking at the maps, the east coast for 800 MHz LTE looks pretty good so far but boy is there still a ton of work that needs to be done on that front.  Eventually Sprint will need to deploy 800 MHz in Canada and Mexico IBEZ areas once they are given the OK to do.

  13. Claire (Claure) hinted, apparently, that Sprint may not participate. http://www.cnet.com/news/sprint-ceo-without-net-neutrality-rules-we-are-toast/

Is that bluff to influence FCC rules? Long term strategy to justify consolidation? Or just reality that Sprint can be competitive in 2020+ without it?

If Sprint doesn't participate in the 600 MHz auction....I'll say they are toast.  They need low band spectrum so badly its not even funny.  I am sorry but Sprint's urban coverage is no where near as dense as Tmobile's urban coverage and there many places where there is still gaping holes of poor coverage for voice and data which can be relieved by low band spectrum.

I hope they are able to get at LEAST 50Mhz of nationwide 600Mhz.  More would be great!

No way Sprint gets that.  All the carriers will be lucky if they can get 84 MHz total cleared for bidding.  Sprint needs at least a 10x10 out of the auction but hell why not go for 15x15 if available.

  14. What I mean is that this is clearly a software issue because when it happens, you can immediately fix it by changing the voice enhancement switch whether already on or off to the opposite (off to on or on to off) while the other person is still connected and hasnt already hung up on you. The issue became completely resolved when I switched off the voice activated "OK Google" from any screen function. I think what may be happening is that keeping the function in keeps the microphone active for that function to listen for the command and therefore doesn't switch over to the call app when needed, leading to a muffled voice. Switching the voice enhancement to on or off during a call resets or activates the microphone over to the call app. It worked every time. So now I just turned off the ok google voice function and have not had the problem since.

So it has been several days since using your recommended fix of turning off the "OK Google from any screen" option under Voice and I have to say that the issue is completely gone.  All my calls since turning that option off people have been telling me that they hear me loud and clear now without having to call hangup and call them back multiple times.  I am surprised that such a tiny fix makes all the difference.  Thanks again for the tip.

For those that still get the muffled voice issue, it has nothing to do with dust gathering up in your microphone and need compressed air to clear it out.  Just go to the Google app and turn off the "OK Google from any screen" option and it will fix the issue.

  15. Not in San Diego or most of Orange County they don't. I'm looking forward to seeing AT&T/Nextel Mexico and Sprint finally work out an agreement so that 800 can finally be deployed around here.

Orange County can't deploy LTE 800 and CDMA 800 because of San Bernardino county PS services which are cockblocking the deployment since they haven't relocated to the new spectrum which they belong.  The IBEZ issue only affects the San Diego county which Sprint and Mexico is already in the progress of rebanding.  They approved of the 800 MHz rebanding plan since Aug 2013 and is required to be complete by Feb 23, 2016.  So hopefully they beat those expectations and can complete the rebanding effort in San Diego by end of 2015.

Ahh in that case, I'll just leave the "OK Google" option disabled since that is the best solution since if I ever needed to use Google Now, I'll just use my Android Wear watch.  I'll try it out and see if this permanently fixes my issue. Thanks again for the tip.

However I am a bit surprised that this only affects the LG G2.  I would expect this issue to affect all Android phones.  I still think LG and/or Google needs to fix this huge bug in the Lollipop update.  Its ridiculous that bugs like this fall through the cracks.

  17. I had this problem for the longest time until I turned off the OK google voice command from any screen. It is definitely a software issue as you can immediately correct the issue by toggling the enhanced voice switch during a call when the muffin happens (assuming the other person doesn't hang up.).

So are you saying the way to fix this issue you have to turn off the OK Google from any screen option AND enable the enhanced voice switch (I assume you mean the option under Phone -> Call Settings ->Voice Enhancement)?  OR just turn off the OK Google option?

Do you always keep the "Voice Enhancement" option checked at all times because I have read that some people say this doesn't help with the muffling issue.  But then again they might not have been aware about turning off the OK Google option from any screen thing.

God I hope LG fixes this bug in the Lollipop update as this is absolutely unacceptable.  I thought it was me going crazy but yeah I have noticed this crap just happening a few weeks ago.  Perhaps it was a google search update that botched things up but I do notice I don't have the voice enhancement option checked.

  18. Use a compressed air on the bottom, near the head phone jack. Or just blow it.

Thanks.  I will give it a try tonight. Is this really just the solution or is this just a band aid fix?

  19. I know this has probably occurred to at least someone before but my G2 is getting a bad case of the muffled voice syndrome where it seems like 50% of my calls, the receiver on the other end is telling me that they can barely hear me but I can hear them just fine.

Its really started to annoy me   because I need to be able to use my cell phone as of late for the voice part to take care of some deals.  I think its a LG issue but I don't know why all of a sudden in my 1.5 years of owning the phone is this starting to happen.  Is it the ZVE update?  Anyone who has this issue know a good way to fix this?  I have read stuff like to use compress air to blow any lint or dust off the microphone holes or speaker holes but I am not sure if that is the only reason.  Any advice?
