  1. Well if HTC believes they have a superior product in the Evo 4G LTE, they shouldn't have to fear the GS3. Just because there is a lot of hype on the GS3 doesn't mean it will be the superior product. For one thing the display on the GS3 is not super amoled plus so that is step backwards from GS2. The GS3 has got 2 GB RAM but who knows if you really need that much. I think the Evo 4G LTE can stand on its own against the GS3.
  2. This is good news for future LTE devices in late 2012 and 2013 phones. I don't know exactly the 7 LTE bands that it will support, but I guess that it will be the 700 MHz, 800 MHz ESMR, 850 MHz Cellular, 1700/2100 MHz AWS, 1900 MHz PCS, 2500 Mhz EBS/BRS and maybe 1800 MHz international band. Manufacturers will start getting samples of the chip in July 2012. http://www.slashgear.com/qualcomm-developing-lte-chip-that-supports-7-spectrum-bands-06232628/ http://www.intomobile.com/2012/06/06/qualcomm-has-figured-out-support-multiple-700-mhz-4g-lte-networks/
  3. They do care what type of "4G" they are connecting to. Not all "4G" connections are created equal. Since AT&T, Verizon, Tmobile and Sprint have botched the "4G" name with the introduction of Wimax, HSPA+, its nice to make it clear that they are connecting over LTE. Its called "word" association...when people hear LTE it equates to really fast, HSPA+ equates to fast and Wimax equates to slow. I know its a nitpicky thing and I think of it as more of a reassurance and marketing thing. Like I said if AT&T is distinguishing 4G HSPA+ from 4G LTE then why not Sprint. Heck even the iPad 3 distinguishes between LTE and HSPA+ with the "LTE" logo in the pic when connecting over LTE and a "4G" logo when connecting over HSPA+.
  4. Looking forward to hear from those that receive the text message tomorrow in the 4 launch markets. I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint was targeting a June 21st and 22nd LTE launch date since that is when the GS3 comes out. Between now and then this would give Sprint another 2 weeks or so to launch as many NV LTE sites in the 4 launch markets.
  5. Now that I think about it, you might be right about that. Still its weird how Apple does everything so differently than everyone else.
  6. I am totally fine with Virgin and Boost mobile selling prepaid iphone. If people are willing to chuck out $500 bucks to get the latest iPhone on prepaid, I am all for it. Sprint has to sell iPhones worth 15 billion to hold up their end of the deal so whatever they need to do to achieve it is fine with me.
  7. Yeah that is because Google Nexus phones didnt put the graphic pic to differentiate between 4G HSPA+ and LTE. Google doesn't really care about that. I am sure the iPhone 5 won't differentiate either since the iPad 3 Verizon and AT&T versions earlier this year didn't have a 4G LTE icon when connected over LTE. I just think it would be great for Sprint to follow AT&T and Verizon and add the 4GLTE logo when connecting over LTE so that the majority of the customers will know they are using LTE. I think it looks pretty good. Believe it or not, without the 4G LTE logo, some folks might think they are still connecting over Wimax. I still find it very weird that some folks still have not heard of LTE considering the huge marketing campaign by AT&T and especially Verizon for LTE.
  8. Verizon uses the "4G LTE" logo on their phones when connected over LTE.
  9. I think I know the answer to this but does Wimax handoff to 3G seamlessly? Usually I don't turn on 3G and Wimax together at the same time but I decided to turn on both 3G and Wimax together streaming Netflix do it one time since I go through this route which I know I always lose my Wimax connection and was hoping my 3G connection would take over and continue streaming. I noticed that the 3G doesn't take over and on my phone screen it just shows the 4G scanning icon. I was hoping that Wimax would initiate 2 retries and then fail and switch over to 3G. I know this won't be a problem with LTE since EVDO and LTE use eHRPD protocol to bridge between the 2 networks.
  10. Not gonna happen any time soon. Downtown Chicago hasn't even started yet. Probably won't be done until Oct at the very earliest.
  11. hopefully those that live in these 4 markets can report back if they actually got the text message on 6/7 and the proposed launch date for that particular market
  12. Lets just hope that say by June 18th that the SGS3 phones doesn't get stopped by customs because they infringe on some bogus Apple patent and cause a delay like the Evo 4G LTE.
  13. I love that Clearwire is joining the RCA. The RCA has gotten strong within the past year with Sprint, Tmobile, Leap, and Clearwire join the association to combat AT&T and Verizon. Lets just hope that Clearwire can benefit from the RCA membership in terms of expanding its coverage at some point in the future after it covers the huge metro markets.
  14. Any update on the Photon 4G LTE phone? Any new phones hitting labs soon?
  15. Darn it when the heck is the Photon 4G LTE phone coming out?!?!??!?
  16. I agree that I would like to see Sprint acquire more lower spectrum in the future but the only lower spectrum that I would want Sprint to pursue if it ever became available is to obtain the 806-817 MHz spectrum that is currently held by public safety as well as others like SouthernLinc that uses iDEN still. I think for now the amount of 800 MHz available to Sprint with 14 MHz for a 5x5 LTE carrier and a 1x carrier is going to help a lot especially since 1x Advanced can allow up to 4x the amount of users which is great for capacity.
  17. You do know that AT&T has already bought the Qualcomm spectrum. Also the Echostar spectrum is worthless. Its 6 MHz of unpaired spectrum and not worth Sprint's time to integrate antennas on it. To be honest, the FCC screwed up the entire 700 MHz spectrum band. I wouldn't want Sprint to acquire any of the 700 MHz spectrum because its so incompatible and diced up way too much. Sprint should only be focusing on Network Vision, acquiring the PCS H block spectrum when its up for auction and working on a network hosting deal with Dish Network.
  18. +1 on this. I would rather have Sprint and Tmobile buy up the rest of the regional carriers than to have a 5th national carrier. With 4G technology requiring larger chunks of spectrum, it doesn't seem as feasible to have super regional carriers with 20 MHz of spectrum nationwide to operate with. I would like to see Sprint acquire Clearwire and Clearwire and have Tmobile acquire MetroPCS. Don't know what to do with US cellular though.
  19. Does Sprint Direct Connect work over 1x yet or does it still work over 3G only? I think the adoption of Sprint Direct Connect would be much faster if it works over 1x. I would hate to see Sprint lose a lot of Nextel customers especially if they are in areas where there is a weak 3G EVDO connections.
  20. 800 MHz LTE = Highly unlikely. Sprint begins 800 MHz LTE FIT testing in the Fall. Robert has mentioned that phones will begin to have 800 MHz LTE support starting Q2 2013 phones. 800 MHz CDMA = Highly likely since all LTE phones currently have support in this band 1900 MHz LTE = YES!!! Really a no brainer since iPhone 5 will have LTE and Sprint only has LTE in this band for now. 1900 MHz CDMA/EVDO = Definitely will have this one.
  21. It should be the icon on the middle of this page. http://www.sprint.com/landings/lte/index.html?ECID=vanity:lte
  22. I don't get what you mean if you are not tech saavy why would you not care about what 4G connection you have. Lets not play dumb here, even the non-tech saavy folks knows what "LTE" and "4G" is due to the massive advertising from Verizon and AT&T. All the non-tech saavy folks don't know is the details on how it works but they do know that when they see the letters "LTE" = fast data speeds. Why do you think so many people left Sprint for Verizon and ATT because in their minds 4G Wimax = crap speeds and 4G LTE = very fast speeds. Therefore its important for Sprint to capitalize on this in their marketing plan that their phones highlight a "4GLTE" icon to let the non-tech saavy folks know that they are connecting over LTE technology which in their minds equates to fast data speeds. 4G Wimax has already given the Wimax community and Sprint customers a black eye so Sprint should try to correct that image by differentiating 4G Wimax from 4G LTE.
  23. I really like the Sprint 4GLTE logo so I really hope Sprint uses the 4GLTE logo in the future phones. Its just that the wireless carriers have butchered the 4G term so it would be nice to let people that are not tech saavy know that the phone is connected via 4G LTE vs. 4G Wimax. I really like the Verizon 4G LTE logo and I don't think the Sprint 4G LTE logo would take up too much room on the top of the phone since the text doesn't have too big.
