  1. The problem is it requires showing what isn't there, which is a lot harder than showing when something is there. If you take a look through the list of LTE bandwidth tests for different MHZ (LTE Test report, page 34), you'll see the channel bandwidths. None of them is above 20mhz. Sprint's Band 41 is all in 20mhz chunks, so using two carriers would require 40mhz. I believe that is one of the signs that there is no carrier aggregation, but someone more knowledgeable can chime in over me.
  2. MADD has suggested breathalyzers in all vehicles as scale would make it cheap to add. Alcohol companies and car manufacturers both heavily oppose it. The phone manufacturers are large with deep enough pockets that a breathalyzer would probably cause lawsuits. A small company running of Amazon and EBay might not have US offices to make them collectable.
  3. I imagine a breathalyzer would never pass the legal department.
  4. Crazy that they can pack in a heart rate monitor, UV sensor, and oxygen level sensor, but putting in the premium modem (the whole thing that makes it a PHONE) might have slipped. Apparently it has enough medical equipment they're concerned they'll be labeled a medical device: http://bgr.com/2014/09/12/galaxy-note-4-release-date-5/
  5. I get the impression that (for the US at least) Samsung basically recycles the RF stack from that year's Galaxy S when building out the Note. Thus the Note 3 had the S4 RF parts. This wouldn't really work for the Note 4 though - the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 in it doesn't have a built in modem, unlike the Galaxy S5, though they could get the discrete modem version of the built in modem for the Snapdragon 801. It seems Samsung keeps skimping on RF for the Note, at least as far as it deals with Sprint. I skipped over the Note 3 because of the lack of Band 41. Carrier aggregation isn't as big a deal to me however - I can live without it.
  6. Is there any news on the IBEZ, when restrictions on it will be removed? I saw the overly optimistic possibility is spring 2015, but what is the reasoning behind that? The only thing I can think of is that I imagine the company that owns the iDen network in Canada is hoping to replace it with LTE, though I think I read that Canadian company is just as likely to be bought out by another operator as rebuild their own network.
  7. Thanks, since it sounds likely to be at least as good performance wise, I won't feel bad about having held onto to my upgrade so long. I had thought of getting the Note 3, but couldn't justify the extra costs above other carriers with lack of Band 41 to myself. Not having carrier aggregation is something I feel I can live with, and given the calling over wifi, I might send Sprint back my Airave. Knowing VoLTE compatibility would be nice, but I agree, Sprint being free to design around VoLTE compatibility between networks is far more important than guaranteeing anyone's current phone will work with it in the future. Yeah, and given I'm in a semi-rural area outside Ann Arbor, I don't expect the tower near me will be a priority. I'd expect Sprint to focus primarily on inbuilding coverage in more populated areas. I'm always surprised that I'm just on the cusp of a Sprint signal (sometimes I can make a call, but it is almost guaranteed to cut out) yet the same tower near me that services Verizon and ATT doesn't seem to get a better signal.
  8. E4GT has 1x800 ability in it, but at present is useless to me. I live in Michigan in the IBEZ, so Sprint isn't going to start using the 800mhz band around here until Spring 2015 (and that is being very optimistic).
  9. Weird, it explicitly states that it doesn't support VoLTE. I'd assume all the hardware is there for it. Would it require FCC re-certification to enable it at a later date via software? Really want to hear about how the RF performance looks. If anyone could weight in on it versus the S2 / Epic 4G Touch, I'd be much obliged. My home is currently on the margin of where CDMA doesn't work on my S2 and wonder if this will perform better than that, or has reception improvements only been really happening for LTE?
  10. Since this doesn't have ESMR band, I think it is the one for China Mobile or China Unicom. They tend to end in a V.
  11. As far as 41 CA, I think someone in this thread already mentioned there was news of at least X devices coming out with CA this year, leaving gn4 as a likely one.
  12. Indeed, one of the reasons the current CEO was named successor was his ability with logistics.
  13. Actually, I believe it is is "as to who" because the "to" goes to the entire clause of "who had the attitude", and therefore doesn't cause the "who" to be the object of the sentence, but instead the subject in the relative clause it is in.
  14. I'm not saying it will never come just not soon. We got pasted over for WiMax even while towns in the UP got it. I also think the usefulness of the 2600 frequency (or any frequency above the 2100s) won't be there until hetnets take off and local ordinances change to make installing very small devices like that worthwhile to install with some kind of simple registration or allowing on any willing location if they're below a certain size. By then I might have sold the Note 3 towards buying the Note 4 retail.
  15. I'm rather disappointed but still considering it. I'm in the Ann Arbor, MI area which means the Canadian IBEZ seems to prevent them even doing CDMA 800 band, they'll probably be into double digits on the note's before LTE on that band here if ever. Also, for some reason we never got WiMax (even though two nearby small towns did plus Lansing), so I'm guessing we'll be hosed on TD-LTE too.
  16. I'd imagine single band happened because they are just using warmed over parts from the Galaxy S4. I've seen it written before that Samsung has been disappointed in the S4 sales - even though it is their fastest moving phone ever, it isn't as fast as they had projected. The result is they're pinning selling their materials in other phones like the Galaxy Megas and the Galaxy Notes. I'd be willing to take bets that if you pull the antenna + modem setup out of the Sprint Note 3, it will exactly match the Galaxy S4's.
  17. Maybe a better variation would be "All your 800 MHz are belong to us." AJ Ugh, that is better. Perfect actually, I wish I thought of that one. Hahaha. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 2 Ugh, that is better. Perfect actually, I wish I thought of that one. Hahaha. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 2 All your base station are belong to us. Your towers are on the way to destruction, make your time (division multiplex access).
  18. I'm probably being lazy as I have to imagine this has been asked and answered, but what is the general reason for them to leave LTE off when they done all the upgrades in the course of doing 3G upgrades?
