So let me get this straight, Robbiati was instrumental in helping Sprint cut cost and he is to be replaced by Combes who resigned at Altice because that company was losing a lot of customers. Things that make you go hmmmm.

His departure from Altice was also tied to the heavy debt they took on during his acquisition spree, but another thing he accomplished was 'stabilizing' ALU before selling it to Nokia. That is a bit more worrisome for me.

Massive MIMO will make a huge difference in dense urban areas. DC’s in-town population has grown substantially since I’ve lived here. Tons of condos and new developments all over the place.

Pehaps we’ll get a sense of where things stand during the next Earnings Call.

Speeds have definitely increased in the Logan Circle (DC) area even on legacy Clearwire equipment, but I think that is mostly due the config change. The business district (K St) continues to struggle, but I did notice either a new tower in Metro Center is online or Macy's installed a Sprint DAS because I had consistent B25 service throughout the store. Previously, I'd drop to 1x or no service.

Like you I hope we get a clearer picture on the next earnings call. I also keep watching this page to see if Sprint signs an agreement with DC Gov for small cells: https://octo.dc.gov/page/small-cells

Someone here can probably explain this, but what exactly is preventing Sprint from doing full on VoLTE? Lack of macro density? Lack of coverage? Something in the core of their network? I remember years ago their excuse was lack of fallback to CDMA, but what's causing it today? Why can't they do a full scale VoLTE launch like Verizon did? Or at least a market-by-market launch like AT&T, where they know they have the LTE reliability and capacity?

It's a mix, but I think their biggest concern is taking a hit on their voice reliability scores. That said, I agree they should just open up VoLTE as a 'beta' program which is what they are sort of doing now with Calling Plus. I believe the full VoLTE IMS is already stood up and functioning with some iPhones and Calling Plus. Either way, we are getting closer!

I wonder if "Washington, DC" according to Sprint also includes surrounding areas in MD/VA.

I believe it does and unfortunately I think the big drag is not just the suburbs but capacity issues in the District itself. Sprint did add some mini-macros in the city core which made B41 somewhat usable again, but it continues to drag 50-60% below the number they provide there. District Government did announce that they received 11 bids to take over the city street lights for small cells - I am hoping that Mobilitie is one of those bids.

  5. I recently had a executive at sprint working on my account cause of some billing issues. After being able to resolve that issue, I had asked her about the airave 3. I wanted to know if i could get the 2.5 plus model switched out and she had told me that she couldn't order any some with the magic box and they wasn't shipping them out until next year. So I had gotten ahold of sprint through twitter, asking about the airave 3 and switching them out. Moments later I had a phone call from another sprint executive asking about the old 2.5 plus model. I just told her it didn't like to play friendly with any of the phones me or my family and friends had. She tried to sell me on the magic box which I would have liked, but had gotten denied for cause of the coverage. So she ordered me a return kit to ship back the old one, and ordered the new airave 3. still haven't gotten the return kit but the new airave came earlier which surprised me. Everything but the LTE light is green and solid the LTE light will connect and then start blinking again. So i'm going to leave it go all night and see what happens in the morning.

Does the LTE light stay red and then blink again? I have been having this issue with my dad's Airave 3 for a few weeks now. They swapped it out once and the new unit is doing the same thing. I really think this is more of a backend issue than the devices.

  6. For what it's worth, a lot of cable companies are upgrading to fiber. Altice is upgrading Optimum and Suddenlink to FTTH/FTTP so they can provide gigabit speeds to users.

Are they actually moving dirt? I know they have issued press releases after the close of the merger, but haven't seen actual upgrades taking place. Maybe I need to start stalking the Optimum DSLReports forums.

  7. I may be at risk of looking crazy as the only participant in this thread, but I thought it would be good to keep a record of changes in case we get more Tampa-based participants.

Sadly, Sprint let two of the City of Tampa permits expire, but did complete work on the other two. I just don't get why you file for permits and then don't follow through.

Mobilitie is continuing to work its way through the process and filed revised plans right before the 4th of July holiday. Hopefully, they will get the green light soon.

One of the expired permits (BLD-17-0449236) was reissued and work completed in the last couple of weeks. Final inspection is due tomorrow. So far no activity on the other permit, but based on the quick turnaround it looks like they aren't letting permits expire for no reason anymore.  :D
