  1. Anyone (those TNX'ed) still having very spotty 5G and sometimes LTE service at DCA? I swear my phone becomes unusable at times. I fly out of DCA nearly weekly and as crowds have returned (yay for our industry!), service continues to degrade. I know MWAA was looking for a new DAS provider, but don't know if that ever got finalized.

  2. After saying I couldn't find any permits updating Sprint/TMo sites in DC, I find a permit for my home site which was issued in January...

T-Mobile proposes removing (3) antennas and installing (9) antennas at the existing telecommunications facility.

So I talked to a friend of mine that works for sprint/T-Mobile and yes they are now throttling all sprint users now and they want all sprint users swapped to T-Mobile sims by the end of the year

Was there an internal directive? Odd they didn't do more of a push for people to voluntairly move (and make it as easy as ordering a sim card online without talking to an agent), before starting to poke people with sticks like this.

Speaking of taxes and fees, did anyone else's skyrocket over the last few months? My $40 plan now tacks on another $21 in fees and taxes.. that's a steep tax rate!

While they normally adjust sales taxes starting 1/1, did you notice what taxes/fees jumped? Most city/state budgets reset October 1, so they could've adjusted them then. Otherwise, it wouldn't surprise me if the 'administrative surcharges' were revised higher.

Has anyone seen any of the former Sprint stores close down? Around here it seems that every single Sprint store was kept open and converted to T-Mobile no matter how close it was to an existing T-Mobile store. I've recently noticed several of the converted stores have gotten new permanent signage replacing the temporary banner signs from Day 1 conversion.

One of our stores here in Downtown DC consolidated a block away. Most of the employees were transferred to other stores and said the lease was expiring, so the timing was just right for corporate real estate to let it go.

I am very happy that Dish's spectrum will finally get deployed. I am really interested in what Comcast is going to do with their 600MHz spectrum.

Dish won't deploy that spectrum any further than Clearwire deployed Wimax. I expect a cable co will swoop in and buy their assets. As of today, the company just doesn't have the capability to raise enough financing to build a true network.

I’m on VoLTE and it’s been fine overall. A couple of call drops and one failed call which said “Call Failure”.

I think Sprint stayed where it was and the other carriers improved respectively.

Ditto, but there was a period where VoLTE kept having issues in the DC area. Missed calls, etc. I wonder if they happened to be testing during that period.

  8. It seems like something is happening to my home tower. Trying to get better pictures of it, but I'm just too far for anything but a blur on my iPhone. Over the weekend, we had sporadic LTE service go in and out. Speeds have slowed a bit, but now there are safety cones on the roof of the building where the equipment is.... fingers crossed.

Thanks! Checked out the Permits. Massive MIMO is coming!

Hopefully a few are placed at/around National Harbor. Congestion in that area is terrible.

Yeah, it seems like they are placing many of them around high congestion areas like expected (Washington Hilton, Convention Center). I wish they were going to upgrade the rest of the towers in the Downtown K St Core.

    Pretty neat! 👍

I'm having trouble entering the search criteria on the page. Where do I actually put in "Sprint"?

When on the first link (acaprod9....) - type sprint in the box with the green search glass. It's right below where the nav bar would be on the right hand side. I've sent a note to the Mayor's office about fixing the images because I'm a tad OCD.

    It's back online! :)

  12. Happy to report that DC has approved a slew of mMIMO permits. Including my home tower of DC03XC145 on 19th St NW. Here is to hoping Sprint gets those panels in ASAP.

You can search more DC permits here by searching 'Sprint': https://acaprod9.dcra.dc.gov/CitizenAccess/Default.aspx

For details on each permit, you can copy the record number/Application ID into this system: https://eservices.dcra.dc.gov/obpat/default.aspx

The most recent application from the 15th of January is still in preprocessing, so not sure what that is for yet.

  13. Well I received this email a few minutes ago...

    Dear Valued Sprint Customer,

Our records indicate your account is using Calling PLUS, a service that combines Sprint's LTE Calling (Beta) with Wi-Fi Calling to enable simultaneous voice and data usage during a call. Due to recent network upgrades, we are formally notifying you that LTE Calling (Beta) will be decommissioned via a system update that will be sent to your device/s beginning September 29th, 2018.

Here are your options for the system update:

    • Accept the system update – it will permanently remove LTE Calling (Beta) from your device. Wi-Fi Calling service will continue to allow your device to make and receive calls over an available Wi-Fi connection.
    • Disregard the system update – LTE Calling (Beta) service will remain active. You will be unable to take advantage of the network optimizations until you accept the system update.

We encourage you to contact your Sprint Business Support Representative below to ask questions or share any concerns you may have. Thank you for the opportunity to be your wireless provider.

    Sincerely,

    Sprint Business

Appreciate the suggestion. Support has actually been helpful. I’ve been reporting it daily in the app for weeks now.

I’m not sure what Marci can do in this situation if it turns out to be a directive from the local market team to let the tower sit for merger/budget reasons. Sprint knows the site is down. It appears so in their tools. It just seems that it’s been abandoned for maintenance purposes, and with the merger on the horizon, fixing it might not be a priority or even possible given pre-merger policy.

Of course, I could be completely wrong on this and Massive MIMO panels could be going up to replace it or another site nearby. I’m not optimistic...

Can you PM me the site?
