  1. My S6e is showing a second DL channel but it doesn't show any signal data for the second carrier. Any thoughts?

Speed test seem to show second carrier active.

It only shows during an active download session.  Try starting a speedtest, then immediately switch over to the LTE engineering screen and you should see the SCC signal data.

Also try to get as close to the tower as possible for faster speed, if you are getting 40+ mbps at -101db, its possible you may get over 100mbps when your signal strength is better than -80db (ideally low -70)

  2. One thing that Samsung can improve on (and Sprint can help them with it), even if the phone RF isn't as good, is rescanning for LTE.  It seems the iPhone does a really good job at that.  My Note 4 takes a bit of time to go back on 4G if it drops to 3G.

Did you change the LTE scan timer? by default i think its every 5 minutes, you can reduce the scan time but it may consume more battery.

Also if you have an active data session (donwloading/uploading) it will most of the time prevent the phone from catching 4G even if you are sitting right next to a 4G tower

  3. Now I'm upset i lost root did update and still no ca plus remembered adaway is a huge reason i like being rooted

sorry just saw this now and replying, but seem too late...

I assume  you have custom recovery? maybe you can downgrade to the previous version where you have root.

if you wanted to keep root, never update until a root is develop for that version, updating to the unmodded samsung fimrware

ALWAYS break root....  New update would not have affect CA as the phone was capable of CA since the begining i think.  I definitely was able to get CA before the 5.1 update.  Whether you get CA or not has more to do with if the TOWER in your area is CA enabled at this point, rather than the phone.  if your phone said CA not config, that meant the phone is already CA enabled but no CA tower in the area.  otherwise it would have said CA disabled.

So i was in a sprint store for a tech support issue., and took the chance to compare some phones rsrp on b41.  This is not scientific but I figure it should give an overall comparison of how the phones compare

Note that while they are not truly side by side but all the phones are within 10 ft of each other in a corner of the Sprint store.  The Samsung phones are along the outside windows, while the HTC LG and Sharp phones are along the wall extending into the store, HTC are the cloest to the windows with the Crystal furthest away from the window.  Tower is about 3000ft away

    Order top to bottom
    Sharp crystal
    G3
G4 (2x note difference in rsrp)
    G4 alone
    M8
    M9
    S5
    S6
    S6 edge
    Note 5
    Edge+

  5. Do i need the latest update if i manually enabled ca i live on long Island and commute to ct every day and have not seen any ca yet i just don't want to lose root with no knox trip

What version are you on? The most recent one fixes the stage fright bug.... so depends on if you don't mind having that bug or not. Stage fight can turn your phone into a zombie phone under someone else control. Why do you need root? If it's just for tethering there is a method to tether without meeting root

  6. the 5.1 update did not fix my wife's problem with Bluetooth not working (call not routing through BT) when making a call even when a BT headset is connected. (however manually pushing the BT button to switch audio output in the dialing app would work)

  7. I stopped by Best Buy last night to pick up something my Wife wanted and made a side trip to the samsung experience kiosk to try out the Note 5 and Edge+..... Hand feel wise I still prefer to Note 5 over the Edge+ which matches my expereince comparing the S6 vs the S6 Edge.  The Edge just feel too sharp on the metal body edge on either side of the phone making it less comfortable to hold.  Mobile radio was disabled and I didn't see a menu under setting to enable them so I couldn't even compare signal strength

  8. I haven't had my Nexus 5 in a while. Been using a G3.

So far I'm not seeing a huge difference. I haven't picked up any CA, and I don't think it's deployed up by me yet. Was running around town yesterday and had some issues trying to load certain things with a good signal, but Samsung apps were updating and it was syncing to my Moto 360. Didn't have any trouble with it after the watch finished it's thing.

Do you still have your G3 on an active line? we would be interest in the cell edge performance comparison, signal strength, band drop off, etc.  the Note5 have bad RF per the wall article, I just want to see how bad it is in real life.  My next upgrade is due in Nov and the Note5 is the top choice currently(unless the new nexus show some major surprises)

    Thanks

  9. Just curious. It was talked about it earlier in the thread but I want to be sure cause I don't want to get a phone that doesn't have spark. On the coverage map on the sprint website it shows that sprint spark isn't available for the s6+ but when I put the note 5 it shows that the note 5 can get sprint spark. I'm hoping this is just an error since both are still new. Could someone please she'd some light one this for me? Thanks

refer to AJ's post above yours, it would answer your question  :D

  10. DisplayMate had a very high regard for the Note 4 display.

Likewise for the Note5 and GS6e+.

Was just coming by to comment that displaymate tested the N5, seems there were some improvement in the display compared to the N4, i guess i will trust displaymate's test over phone arena's test

Its no longer true that SAMOLED screen aren't accurate.  Samsung has introduce display color profile selection that you can select to match the RGB gamut reference calibration if that's what you prefer.  Its pretty accurate too, I still prefer the adapative display for day to day use though for the pop color

  11. Your Galaxy S6 may have better reception, but it does not have better transmission.  That is what the ERP/EIRP figures show, and they do not lie.

    AJ

That means the tower can't "hear" the phone as well at cell edge correct? so that mean the phone would drop from B41 to B25 to B26 faster, but as long as the tower can still "hear" the phone the performance should be similar correct?

Does that mean a N4 may still be hanging onto B41 with a -120db RSRP where the the S6/N5 will drop to B25 at about -115db.  but if the S6 have slightly better reception in my case (about 5-10db better on B41) that may mean it basically cancel out each other.  chicken or the egg of either the phone can't hear the tower first or the tower can't her the phone first?

I should take some Side by Side cell edge vid to compare the N4 vs the S6... wonder if I know anyone with a IP6 to compare the 3 together.

  12. I was all excited for thth note but this rf thing is making step back. I can't believe it didn't scorbetter..

I'm completely "meh" too. No USB C (or even 3.0), no 4K screen for VR. Lack of an SD card can be made up by the 128GB storage option, but in total it just seems to be a worse RF performing Note 4 with CA.

    Wait and see

My S6 have better reception than my wife's Note4.  The ERP/EIRP is an indicator but does not always match real world result

  13. I'm in Denver where they've recently turned on CA--I signed up to try sprint last night and got an S6, but am getting pretty lousy perfomance.  My home and work are in two "best" areas for spark and I get a very weak b25/26 signal.  I did see b41 for a short period of time while commuting--also said CA not configured on the #*0011# screen.  I checked the #data# and it says CA is enabled.  I have the latest S6 update, have updated the profile and prl.  Anything else I should try?

have you check the Sponsor map for colorado to see how far you are from the towers?http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/5624-colorado-nv-maps-and-discussion/

CA in *#0011* will say "not configured" until you actually latch on to a CA enabled B41 tower and actively using CA

when ##data# say CA is enabled, you should see SCC being listed in ##DEBUG# under LT engineering, when CA is disable there would be no lines for SCC at all.

see pic 5 and 6 here

    http://imgur.com/a/JlC0O/all

Next SCC information only pop up when the state is connected, when IDLE the SCC seem to be dropped.  the RSRP  type information on the SCC doesn't seem to show up until you are actively downloading something (large)

Sprint CA is only on B41, there is currently no CA on B25 or B26.  I don't know about Denver, but even in Chicago based on my own observation at least 75% of the B41 tower aren't CA enabled yet

  14. You'll probably have to wait until your whole market is completed with 8t8r radios installations. I've noticed that Nokia has gone around and installed 8t8r around Texas, but leave them at low power which roughly gives the same coverage as Clearwire LTE. Once a market is complete, optimizations should help a ton.

New 8t8r equipment only goes as high as -82 dbm in my area, while they should be able to reach up as high as the upper -50s when fully optimized (as seen in places such as Las Vegas). I'm assuming once Clearwire equipment is taken off line, then people should be able to see the real strength of B41.

I've noticed this at some tower also.... I was literally across the street from one tower yesterday and I couldn't get a signal better than -80dbm.  thinking this maybe a down angle issue (thinking i was below where the antenna was pointing) I tired moving around a bit further away only make the signal worse

  15. Anyone experiencing improvement in data service around downtown Chicago? I'm just curious.

I was around the loop last week by the Chase tower and observed B41 carrier aggregation, but speed was only still about 10mbps probably due to too many people in the loop.

  16. I got it on the evening of the 13th, carrier aggregation still disabled

If the profile update doesn't work, you can manually enable CA with ##DATA# and your MSL code, the MSL should be in the email that was sent to you when you first activated the phone

  17. I got the android 5.1 update a few days ago and i didnt realize it until tonight but almost every app on the playstore says not compatable. Apps like spotify, netflix, twitter, speedtest.net, and more all say not compatible. However since the apps were installed before i updated there still installed and all working perfectly fine. Is ur wife experiencing anything like this on her phone. Cant install any popular apps right now. Been like this for days too so i think its a phone thing not a google thing

I don't have that issue but I'm on the 920 not the 925
