  1. Most of these new rural HSPA+ sites in New Mexico are not colocated with Sprint. However, your main point is valid. Tmo will certainly benefit from many of the rural fiber site connections Sprint has already established.

if this were actually the case, Wouldn't the connections vzw and att established have helped sprint because it doesn't seem like it did. Separate fiber runs were made at many of the sites where every other carrier had 4g broadcasting. But we'll just have to wait and see
  2. T-Mobile actually has a lot more towers than people give them credit for. I haven't pulled any numbers since Legere's stepped in, but before he arrived they had something like 37,000 sites on the 3G/4G network, and approx 52,000 sites nationwide. That was before they started with LTE and network expansion, and before MetroPCS merger.

A lot of that was (and still is) EDGE only, and hasn't been touched since the VoiceStream days. But it's still there.

I only have Michigan numbers, but since then, Sprint's total sites have dropped significantly (they shed a lot of non-redundant iDEN sites) and T-Mobile's numbers have risen, but only slightly (they threw away most MetroPCS sites, but kept a few in areas where they previously had roaming-only and kept almost all the DAS systems. Something like 40-80 new sites state-wide are now live that were previously MetroPCS sites)

this is accurate in my area. T-Mobile has a very dense network here. Many sites are T-Mobile only in addition to them being on shared sites
  3. Over at XDA they are reporting an increase in signal strength for LTE. They're flashing a tar of the ROM. I'm waiting for the official GOTA link but if you're brave you can head over to XDA for the links.

that may just be it fixing the issue where everything lower than -100dbm is shown as one bar
  4. Imagine if they put that $$$$ towards network expansion and bit of marketing that is dumbed down for the masses. Simple commercials without all the talking elephants, giraffes, thugs, hippies, etc, just some average folks. People love maps so show them a map points all over with new coverage. Zoom into the point quickly showing some people posting/viewing videos, pics, listening to music on their phones with the quickness. Then you can adopt the Done. thing again. "More Coverage. More Speed. That's Sprint speak. Done."

Thank you!!!! This money is better off spent adding coverage, increasing density, and better advertising.

  5. What PRL is on your phone? (not that its the answer, just curious) I'm PRL 51101. I will see that I now jump on to B26 from B25 directly and it rarely goes to 3G. If it does go to 3G, it'll hop back to LTE within a minute or two, unless it really can't see any B26 at all. And this is in very spotty areas where I KNOW I will have weak signal.

51100. It doesn't happen all the time but I find my phone on 3g a lot when I take it out of my pocket whenever I'm out and about and maybe that's the reason
  6. Does anybody's phone ever just "forget" it has band 26 and just drops to 3g? Here's what I mean by that. Whenever I walk into my basement I know it will drop band 25, but sometimes instead of going to band 26 it will just drop to 3g. A quick radio cycle in the same spot and I'll be connected to band 26 at -108dbm. Anybody else experience something like that with this phone?

  7. I really think the negative connotation connected with the Sprint brand is overstated. If you make the rounds on the internet you will see that EVERYBODY gets bashed. While Sprint may take more than there fair share I don't think it has reached the point of the Sprint name being unusable.

when was the last time you've been on a social network? It's crazy how much hate sprint gets.

I have a gs5 and if the radio in this is anywhere near the n5 I'm switching to it. The gs5 radio is terrible

  8. Sprint is not likely to do much additional organic buildout for its existing 50 million sub base. It has long since reached the point of diminishing returns. Rather, an organic buildout probably requires the economy of scale added by a T-Mobile acquisition. And that looks to be a tough sell.

they have to do something though. What are the chances the $8 billion in capex this year and next would go towards b41 expansion as well as additional sites with all three bands

Edit: sorry for getting off topic

  9. The CCA plan sounds good on paper, and it will help in some regions. But do not get any grand illusions. The total CCA footprint is still less than that of VZW. Plus, many CCA members are already in bed with VZW via the LTE in Rural America program. So, they are off the table for Sprint.

In the end, the Twin Bells have duopolized the truly national urban/rural wireless buildout. That ship has sailed, and Sprint will probably have to make do with something less.

and that's what really concerned me about the CCA plan. What really stops big red from just gobbling them up. IIRC Son mentioned something about doing an organic build of the network where there was only one roaming provider-which im assuming he was referring to vzw-so if that is true that could definitely help where a CCA partnership isn't feasible.
