  1. I can't for the life of me understand why Samsung / Sprint wouldn't want to fix this issue quickly. It's not new ... it's been going on forever. I just got my S6 over the weekend and love it, but even I was looking at the bars with disgust when my S4 (non-Spark) had full bars everywhere I frequent. TaiKing said it best; if they are already fighting a bad signal perception, you'd think Sprint would be putting whatever resources necessary to fix this. Those of us from here can only evangelize the true meaning or false perception of the low bars and take it so far. There are thousands getting these Spark phones and probably becoming very upset looking at their bars because that is what we’ve been trained to do over the years. They can’t expect that everyone is going to know to look at their actual signal strength values when it has been beat into us that the bars tell the whole story. You mention signal strength and most people are going to reply, “You mean the bars, right?”
  2. I don't know for sure how much I get for usage because I usually recharge it without looking, but I agree that it amazes me how long it lasts. I think the tablets in general last longer than the phones, whether it is because they have more battery capacity or because they run more efficiently ... because my Nexus 7 (2012) has great battery life too when compared to my GS4. Now, my tablets don't have cell antennas ... so that could have a lot to do with it too, but screens are universally the highest battery drain. Who knows.
  3. Got 7.1.2 on my iPad mini and haven't really noticed a difference yet. I'm guessing the phones probably notice more of a difference because of the mobile network and the additional usage it gets throughout a day. But I do use my mini quite a bit when I'm in meetings and away from my computer and I have a bluetooth keyboard attached to it so that eats battery too.
  4. I would be very surprised if they activated one sector before the others were upgraded. They may only have one upgraded but I doubt they would activate a site until all sectors were upgraded successfully. I suppose there could be exceptions to the rule, but in general I wouldn't think that they would want that customer experience.
  5. That's my old stomping grounds, I grew up in Euclid. I hope they also improve the signal out in Mentor. The area of 306 between Rt 2 and Lakeshore is rough for signal. They've upgrade some of the towers to NV/LTE but a few more are so far untouched.
  6. The tower in Green that has been horrible 3G speeds for the past month or so has lit up LTE as of this morning. Turns out the eHRPD was a good sign after all. The speed isn't as fast as it is at my home tower in the Falls, but it's at least respectable. Finally.
  7. I can only speak for the standard S4, but I did see the GCI info on the towers I have connected to. You're right, it could be a KitKat thing ... maybe they (Samsung) did adjust the firmware to allow it to report.
  8. It appears the SG4 also will show the GCI, I grabbed this screen while I was connected to an LTE tower in the area.
  9. Admittedly I don't know enough about the technical aspects of 3G 800 vs. LTE 800, but that's good news if the 3G 800 is supported by many of the non tri-band devices. I hope you're right because cell phones are virtually useless when a decent amount of people are downtown. I'm not sure how it is on a normal work day, but I would guess it's marginally better. There are a good amount of people downtown during the day.
  10. Well yeah, for anyone with the new tri-band phones. Anyone without is going to be out of luck, unless you're saying that enough of the population will have switched to tri-band phones alleviating some of the burden on the other bands. I think that's wishful thinking at best ... many people upgraded to the S4 or another non-tri-band devices. I doubt many will just throw those away for a tri-band phone anytime soon, not to mention from what I have heard, the tri-band devices have trouble in areas where the 3G NV upgrades haven't been done (ie. many places in Cleveland market) ... so tri-band devices aren't really worth it in this market for now. Also, isn't there still the restrictions on the 800 band near the border of Canada where markets could overlap each other? I know I was reading about that somewhere in here too. That may be a non-issue but I know it was brought up before. p.s. - Yes, I know LTE is still in testing up there, I was merely corroborating what was said about why Cleveland hasn't been officially launched yet. Too many holes in the city the market is named for.
  11. Agreed. I was just up there over the weekend and had slight LTE signal by the Rock Hall and Science Center, but near Tower City I had 3G. They need to upgrade the infrastructure in Cleveland in general because anytime there is an event with many people downtown even basic signal for calls/texts is largely unusable. And it's not limited to Sprint because friends/family/coworkers with Verizon or AT&T had same problem as I have.
  12. I was at KSU on Friday and was getting LTE. I wasn't too far onto campus, I was at Franklin Hall but LTE was decent there. I meant to send you a note on here. So there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel there too
  13. Really? I swore I read that it did ... Well, then I'm not sure what would make me upgrade to the 2nd Gen. haha.
  14. I have the Gen 1 16GB and I love it ... though I was a bit unhappy with the fairly quick release of the Gen 2 after I bought mine. I got it directly from Google and they didn't offer any type of trade-up program, which I think is a bit of a scam ... but I do still like mine. The only real benefit to the Gen 2 for me was the addition of the microSD slot ... but I haven't come close to filling up my 16GB internal so it turned out not to be a huge deal for me. As an aside, if you happen to be a Sam's Club member they sell the Nexus 7 (wifi 2nd Gen) for like $180 brand new. I'll likely wait and buy a new one there if the rumors of the Nexus 8 are true and they get them in to sell at a similar price break. Edit* - I guess they raised the price a bit and now it shows $199 (16GB) and $219 (32GB) from Sam's Club. I swear it was $180 though recently when I looked.
  15. Possibly, but word of caution ... I've had eHRPD in the Falls for months before LTE popped up, so it is no guarantee that LTE is going to light up in the near future. However, the way NE Ohio has been getting LTE in the past month, I would certainly not count it out. Especially since they have been testing LTE in the Kent area for several months. I've picked up LTE a few times but then the next time I went through same area it was back to 3G.
  16. lol, we'll they wouldn't be the first German-based company to fail in the U.S. Market (DHL anyone?) But, like DHL, T-Mobile and their parent, Deutsche Telekom, do quite well globally. Of course, domestic shipping is a different beast than wireless telecom. Our government seems to be entertaining the same merger and acquisition philosophy with wireless carriers as they have with airlines ... They seem to want a handful of competitors and that's it ... Even though that never benefits the consumers. (Look at cable for an example there)
  17. I can see them trying, but it's just Marketing ... Heck, I know a particular shipping company that started a division like the one I work for and went to market with a color (and name) very similar to ours. We've since changed our color ... Haha. Anyway I completely agree its good to see them get aggressive to take market share. And with the rapid expansion of LTE recently, they may be able to do it.
  18. Judging by Sensorly, it appears that tower is active, or at least has been long enough for someone to map the signal. But it's full right there where the tower is so that's a good sign. I'll tell you what, the new LTE data speed at my house is faster than my U-Verse internet service ... not that I'm going to get rid of it, but dam, LTE is fast! The upload is 600% faster than my home internet and the download, depending on time of day, is between 20 and 60% faster. Pretty impressive.
  19. It's horrible, isn't it? My speedtest just a few minutes ago in Green is below: At least at home I was getting decent 3G rates even when LTE was only a dream. I do have a service message on my Sprint Zone which indicates one of my most used towers is experiencing voice service quality issues (as of 2/21/2014) and they anticipate the fix to be 5/1/2014. Not sure how they can pad themselves over 2 months to fix an issue like that, but I haven't really gotten any dropped calls recently. Who knows ...
