  5. Based on my LTE usage so far in the last 24 hours, and assuming T-Mobile doesn't have some magic LTE distance enhancing powers, the Nexus 5 should blow away my EVO once I have the Sprint SIM on board. The only issue seems to be connecting to LTE in the first place; it really wants to stay on HSPA if it's even thought of having a data session in the last minute or two. 7. FWIW the "standard" AOSP *#*#4636#*#* is the only one of the three dialer codes that works with my T-Mobile SIM. No LTE engineering for you, T-Mobile customers!
  8. My understanding of the Rules is that proprietary information or things that you'd only understand were significant because of proprietary information has to stay in sponsor areas. But anything you discover or confirm with your phone can be posted in "public" as long as you don't discuss Sprint internal ID numbers or schedules or map coordinates or the like. 9. With "those embedded SIMs," there'd be no Nexus 5 on Sprint, or it'd be useless for anyone who wanted to use it on any other carrier. In fact, the hangup for the 32GB models seems to be Sprint's pigheaded MEID whitelist rules, not the SIM itself. Sprint was going to have to join the 21st century sometime, and while they're not there yet (they need to abolish the automatic lockout of non-Sprint IMEIs/MEIDs, and just blacklist stolen devices, and the lack of CSIM authentication on most devices), I think it will pay dividends down the road as the US transitions to a BYOD/unsubsidized market and manufacturers focus on delivering one or two SKUs that work worldwide as opposed to dozens for every carrier's baroque band configuration.
  10. RT @Will___Ferrell: Canada has seasons: Almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction.

  11. Definitely getting T-Mobile LTE in Warner Robins, and SignalCheck is showing GCI and PCI as well as the fallback GSM info. My cheesy app is also showing the TAC (but is occasionally crashing, so I need to figure out why). Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  12. After looking at the Nexus 5 and the iBolt car mount, there's one minor problem: Google flipped the micro USB port on the Nexus 5, so the supplied cable in the Blackberry version is backwards and thus sticks out oddly from the bottom. I just found the right cable on Amazon for $5 with free shipping, so I'm still ahead $10 from buying the "real" universal mount, but it's still mildly annoying.
  13. My 32gb Black model showed up on my doorstep when I got home. Activating on T-Mobile was easy: just popped out the SIM from the Nexus 4, put it in the Nexus 5, and started the phone. It asked for WiFi info, then it decided to download a 125 MB update. Pretty standard setup process. This is pretty awesome; here's what shows up under "Available networks" with my T-Mobile SIM from the Nexus 4 installed: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3zakqx1u690g5nn/2013-11-05%2000.20.33.png One of these things is not like the others... I wonder what it'll do if I tell it to connect to Sprint? No evidence of LTE right here (not particularly surprising, although there is apparently some T-Mobile LTE around Macon and I live in a HSPA+ area where LTE was/is supposedly an "easy upgrade"); I'll drive around a bit this evening and see if I can get it to connect to LTE somewhere Sensorly shows T-Mobile purple. Got tracking info for my Sprint SIM today; not showing an ETA yet but UPS Ground from Lexington to Macon is allegedly two days. Hopefully by then the MEID issues will be fixed and I'll be able to activate online, put the SIM back in the Nexus 4, and put my Evo out of its misery.

  16. Just ordered my SIM through international chat; no questions asked. Decided not to pay for the overnight; I figure I can muddle through on my Evo 4G LTE and use my Nexus 4's SIM to play with it on T-Mobile (and do a bit of T-Mobile LTE mapping while I'm at it) for a couple of days.

  18. I ordered 3 different Cruzerlite cases (buy 2, get 1 free) via Amazon; I've had a Cruzerlite TPU case on my Evo 4G LTE since I bought it and have been pretty happy. One of the cases (black Experience) already came today (occasionally I get Prime orders in one day), beating the phone by a weekend; the other two I ordered (blue Androidified and blue Spi-Force; the latter has the stand built in) weren't Prime eligible and are apparently being shipped by the manufacturer. In the same order I also picked up this iBolt car mount, which as far as I can tell so far is identical to the car mounts they sell for Android devices for $40; it works fine with my Nexus 4 and Evo 4G LTE, at least. iBolt was the OEM for the "official" Sprint Evo 4G LTE dock.

  20. Do preferred retailers that do repairs also have USIMs on hand? Of the three Sprint Stores in central Georgia, the only corporate store is the one that doesn't do repairs (go figure). Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4

  22. Authenticating to LTE will definitely require a SIM. No idea on CDMA, although my guess is like the iPhone 5c/5s it will do SIM authentication rather than by ESN. BC 10 is 800 (ESMR). I think 0 is 850 (Cellular) and 1 is 1900 (PCS). Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
  23. For what it's worth, in the Ericsson markets I've been in (Atlanta/Athens and Georgia, mostly, with some of Alabama) LTE-upgraded sites have been fine; Memphis market is the only one where I've seen issues with dead "live" sites. Perhaps Sprint's QA contractor for that area is part of the problem rather than Ericsson alone. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
  24. You're assuming folks aren't going to use their subsidized upgrade for a different device that has a more handsome resale value. Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
