  1. Or just dedicate a pocket to your phone and don't put anything else in there that could scratch it (keys, coins, anything hard).

I personally use a nillkin case for my g2.works great, even keeps the screen off of a surface of you put the phone face down.

I've tried to do same thing since I my palm pre days. Keys and phone never in same pocket. Even if I have a screen protector on it.

  2. Richmond is more than just CSFB.  There is a new vendor.  Richmond has legacy Motorola gear and being replaced with Alcatel Lucent.  So Sprint and Lucent are now in a pickle that they have to bring 3G up in clusters to prevent massive voice handoff/call drop problems.  And they will no longer bring up LTE by itself, because of the CSFB problem.

So Richmond is being deployed more like a Samsung market now.  They have to work marketwide all at once now and bring up 3G in clusters.  Then when 3G/eCSFB is live in each cluster, they can double back and bring online the LTE on the sites in those clusters who already have their backhaul in place.

Thanks for details.  It's been highly irritating waiting here. They had a quick spurt of activity at the end of 2013 and now almost two months into 2014 there's been nothing. 3g speeds have tanked everywhere I go south and west of Richmond. Seems to be only 1x speeds across the board. I do occasionally see the spark icon light up on my g2, but it disappears after a few seconds and no data can be sent. Oh, well. At least you can tell there is work going on even though progress seems painfully slow.

  3. I am glad that wasn't the case here where I live. I had the choice of two cable providers here at my house in South Dakota. WOW and Midcontinent. First time in my life I've ever had two cable providers available at my house. I usually only had one...and sometimes none.

And the result is I was able to get 100Mbps/15Mbps cable internet for slightly less than I paid for Windstream DSL 12Mbps/768kbps back in New Mexico. And my cable internet runs 90%-100% of stated speeds always, but my old DSL was less than 50% most of the time.

I also got all the install and modem fees waived when I threatened to use the other cable provider. Competition is a wonderful thing.

Two is certainly better than one. It'll keep prices somewhat in check. But here in richmond Verizon and Comcast are pretty much content to split market 50-50. You'll pretty much pay the same price at either one. Neither tries to push the other for better services. Internet speeds are pretty much the same as well as channel packages.

Really seems like 3 providers is required to really push things.

  4. I did a search via Tapatalk and didn't find anything, sorry in advance....

I added my hotmail account with no problems with stock email app.

I add my second email, live.com and get login/email wrong. I can pull the website from my phone and can sign right in. Is this a restriction from LG or an app error?

Can someone please try if you have two Hotmail or live emails.

I think it's a setup error. I have both my live.com and outlook.com emails in the stock email app and they work just fine. When you're setting up the accounts the server should be the same. (m.hotmail.com I think) and don't forget the user name should be user@live.com or user@hotmail.com

  5. May be the issue... Someone just posted above you that it is called LG software update, not firmware update...

No dice. Just tried to update LG software and it also says no updates available. Oh well. The wait goes on.

  6. Just tried manual update and I'm installing it now.

Funny how everyone is getting it today.  I'm guessing it was a problem with the mechanism they use to push out the update.

Not everybody. Mine still just says "no firmware update available".

  7. So you were able to get existing accounts added to your Framily Plan after saying you wanted details about leaving Sprint? So they went ahead and moved the existing accounts on your Framily Plan? Is that what you are saying?

Chat seems to have no issues moving people on existing accounts into the same Framily. The even argued with me when I said you couldn't do it and I wanted details about leaving for 45 days so I could join a friend's Framily.

I was looking into getting onto one of the Framily plans that people have posted on slickdeals earlier. I wound end having 2 chat sessions and one phone conversation with Sprint reps.  The bottom line I got is that you can't generally move an existing account onto someone's framily plan with two exceptions. 1. Both accounts share the same billing address or 2. both accounts have the same account holder name.  They said the accounts would still be billed separately but if I wanted join I would have to change the billing address on my account to match the Framily ID holder's.

Of course now looking back on it I forgot to ask if separate bill meant they would send to two different addresses of if both bills would go to same address just with two different names.

  8. What are the ultimate financials of the Sprint/ntelos relationship. I keep hearing everyone talk about how much Sprint has to pay ntelos. But nTelos has 500k subscribers that use sprints nationwide network so is this as lopsided as we think?

~60 million sprint customers, how many of which live or travel through a small state like WV? versus ~500k nTelos subscribers that travel across the entire country (minus VA and NC) using sprints network. What do you suppose the total data usage is by each customer set on the others network?

My understanding is that WV is the primary state where Sprint has minimal footprint and relies on ntelos. Some of the ntelos territory in other states like VA actually overlaps with sprint doesn't it?

Most of South Western Virginia is covered by nTelos and Shentel.  I think Sprint towers stop somewhere around Harrisonburg VA (The correct info is somewhere in this site).  I imagine that not a large percentage of nTelos subs take advantage of the nationwide coverage.  In fact, nTelos most popular and cheapest plans ,until recently, were Tristate local only (The offered nationwide as a separate tier).  Their Nationwide by default plans are a somewhat recent development.  While this region is relatively small, it seems profitable enough that VZW, ATT and even T-Mob, have nearly 100% LTE coverage (Except out in the country, and T-Mobs AWS suckiness).  Sprint is pretty much the only carrier that does not have LTE in 2/3 of Virginia and West Virginia.  Both VZW and ATT have large local Installations in the Roanoke Valley.  None of this probably answers your main question.  Sorry.

Shentel provides coverage from Harrisonburg to points north along I-81. NTelos covers most of area south until about Abingdon.

  9. Wow.  Real classy of them.  I wonder if they will sequester LTE access for Sprint Users, who are the ones that stand to gain the most from this.  Why are they being so secretive ?

    That's the million dollar question.

I think they don't want to spend the resources to build out a 4g network.  This all part of a long dance with Sprint. I suspect sometime in 2014 we'll see nTelos agree to a buyout with Sprint. It's especially curious since today we had the news of Sprint working with Dish on fixed wireless internet access just like Dish is doing with nTelos.

  10. So at a conference, Sprint CFO, Joe Euteneuer, announces that Sprint will not take part in the H block auction coming up in January 2014. Says Sprint will instead focus on lower band auctions later.

Speaking at the Wells Fargo Tech, Media & Telecom Conference, Sprint CFO Joe Euteneuer said that given Sprint's existing spectrum positions, especially with the trove of 2.5 GHZ airwaves it acquired along with Clearwire, Sprint does not feel the need to go after the H Block, which sits right next to the PCS G Block spectrum it is currently using for LTE service.

"Given our belief for the lower-band spectrum, we have made the decision not to participate in that auction," Euteneuer said. He said the FCC's rules for the spectrum, coupled with several other factors, made it less palatable. In terms of low-band spectrum Euteneuer likely was referring to the FCC's forthcoming incentive auctions of 600 MHz broadcast TV spectrum, currently scheduled for next year.

  11. How are you determining the Play Store version will be activated by Sprint? I'm not seeing anything referencing that in the Play Store.

The technical specs section on Nexus 5 is 3 panes wide. If you hit the right arrow twice you'll see the section showing unlocked on TMo and Sprint.

  12. If I am not mistaken the Richmond area is on a whole completely different network than my area. Our are is covered by Ntelos and the Richmond area is covered by Shentel? (not sure on that). My only point is, Ntelos is a really, really small carrier that doesn't have much money to spend. So I suspect their 4G rollout will be super slow and the 4G speeds will most likely be subpar.

That is just some deductive reasoning on my part though, I could be totally wrong!

Just FYI, Richmond is Sprint.  Shentel covers basically I81 at harrisonburg and points north. Everything on 81 south of that is nTelos.

  13. So according to FierceWireless, Sprint has inked both incoming and outgoing roaming deals.  However, sprint has not confirmed any details of who the partners are.  But it sounds like it's with smaller regional players.

Sprint (NYSE:S) currently has a total of three operational inbound LTE roaming agreements, and has inked contracts with two providers for outbound roaming, according to internal Sprint documents obtained by FierceWireless.

Sprint spokeswoman Kelly Schlageter confirmed the existence of LTE roaming agreements but declined to provide additional details, including which wireless providers the agreements are with.

  14. Sprint (NYSE:S) CEO Dan Hesse isn't going anywhere anytime soon, as parent SoftBank has extended Hesse's contract through at least July 31, 2018.

    Hesse

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which was first reported by Dow Jones Newswires, Hesse still has a base salary of $1.2 million, unchanged from his previous contract. No compensation changes were made.

  15. I was told yesterday that the reps were told Fri that  all customers would have to go to the new plans when they do their next upgrade. We actually did switch to the new plan (effective Oct 3rd.) and we are actually saving about $10. Course to do that we limited the 3 lines the kids have to 1 gig while the wife and I are staying unlimited.

This was inevitable.  It's what sprint did the last time they did a major plan change. You got to keep your plan until you wanted to upgrade your phone.  Then they forced you to switch.

  16. LTE (700, 850, AWS, 1900 MHz)

    HSPA ( 850, 900, AWS, 1900, 2100 MHz)

    GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

This message brought to you in part by Sprint and the letters GS and the number 4

But if you look at the full tech specs here:

    http://www.google.com/nexus/7/

    It shows this for LTE:

    • LTE: 700/750/850/1700/1800/1900/2100 MHZ (Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/13/17)

Are any of those Sprint's bands?
