  1. RCR Wireless is already jumping to conclusions based on 1H2016 RootMetrics tests

It appears as if they are coming to that conclusion because T-Mobile has won/shared 1st place in more markets. Though I'm pretty sure that RootMetrics determines who comes in what place based on multiple other factors, rather than total market wins.

  2. Some Androids (and some apps, GSam is my favorite) will show the 'Screen on Time.' I can get 2 or 3 days out of my G4, but that's with like 30 minutes of screen time. Up that to 2 hours, and it's closer to 25 hours of battery life. I'm not sure if "Home & Lock Screen" is the same as "Screen on Time."

"Home and Lock Screen" is screen on time. "Usage" time is also loosely related to screen-on time, but if you're listening to music while the device is locked, that will be counted as "Usage" time too.

  3. It's been like 2+ years since we've gotten a new macro and the competition hasn't been standing still. They need to do something and they need to do it now.

I think if Sprint put equipment on ~50% of the Nextel sites that they aren't colocated on already, it would make they're network very competitive here.

  4. My Mom and Sister are on my family plan and they live in that area. I'm between Midland and Mount Pleasant, so not great service 's expected there! Although I did turn my Airave off a couple of weeks ago and have been getting calls with no issues. There has been much progress, but still a ways to go.

Oh yes, voice/text service is miles better than pre-NV. Data is where the focus needs to be now.

  5. BTW, not sure if we've mentioned it before, but there is a new cell site on UNCC's campus, and guess who's on it?? Not Sprint! But T-Mobile, AT&T and maybe Verizon are on it/will be on it. I'm hoping that Sprint hops on it eventually when NGN kicks into gear here, because God knows that we could use the coverage/capacity!

  6. I still find many places in Charlotte that I hit unusable 3g. Mint Hill area can be bad when I can't get 4g. Was surprised how many bad spots I saw on 485 still between mint Hill and 77

  7. I hope Sprint corporate is sending some NGN love to the greater Hickory area (part of CLT market) as we have too many dead zones due to the hilly terrain and lack of sufficient macro sites.

Sprint could easily fix HWY 16 from CLT to Taylorsville and beyond and all of HWY 321 with small cells and in some cases, B41 backhaul.  It would be really quite awesome to have service where it just hasn't been economical enough for Sprint to co-locate on macro sites.  I just hope Sprint will see the benefit in this and act upon it.  Also, I-40 could really use small cells to close the numerous coverage gaps between Asheville and Winston-Salem.  2016 could be an amazing year for Sprint.

NGN should touch all parts of the Charlotte market, including the Hickory area. I live in the suburbs of Charlotte, so I'm looking forward to the upgrades and expansion that will come with NGN. We'll get some love SoonTM.

  8. Thought I would give this thread a fresh bump.I live north of charlotte in the Salisbury area and have noticed that rootmetrics charlotte score for the first half of 2016 still ranks sprint very poorly on data. Any thoughts on when sprint might start kicking network improvements into high gear in our area? This is in no way a rant about bad service in my area. In fact I am quite happy with sprint's network progress in the last few years,it's just nice to here about upcoming improvements.

Most likely Sprint will start giving our area some attention when NGN kicks into high gear. Charlotte isn't really a priority market so they haven't been doing much here as of late, but NGN will be nationwide so we will have to wait until then to get some upgrades going.

  9. Spectrum would be more useful for LTE-M for the IoT and M2M.

Release 13 recently came out and allows for a just so convenient 1.4MHz block as well as 200kHz.  It looks like it is designed to use spectrum that is < 1GHz.

I know of 1.4 MHz LTE carriers. I'm saying that the 1x carrier is more efficient for that spectrum slice than an LTE carrier.

  10. I'm not against leaving a 1x sliver somewhere in PCS/SMR, preferably just PCS, but I am all for the fastest decommission possible of 3G. :-)

When it comes time for that, the 1x sliver will most likely be in SMR because with one 5x5 carrier deployed, the remaining spectrum will really only be useful for 1x versus more LTE.

  11. I guess at this point, I hold out hope that they'll just replace the screen/glass. I would think it makes better financial sense for them to take the hour or whatever and replace he screen than it does to just hand me a new device? Maybe not.

It depends on if they deem it reparable or not. I have had a couple of experiences where just the glass is damaged but they say that it's not reparable.

  12. Blargh!

7 months+ out from a new iphone, and I managed to drop my beloved Iphone 6+ face down onto concrete yesterday.   :(  Still on 9.0.2 because I did not want to lose my jailbreak - I love CellularInfo, Gmailer, BatteryLife, Speed Intensifier, and TypeStatus 2.

I have AppleCare+.  Last time I went in for an issue, I simply wiped the phone and restored 9.0.2 because that version was still being signed - and I knew I could come back home and jailbreak the replacement device.  As expected - Apple ended up just swapping it the entire device and I came home and did the jailbreak.  Oddly enough - the replacement device was on a wayyyy older iOS version (8.4.1 I think)

Now though... 9.0.2 is no longer signed.

Have an appointment with the genius bar wednesday morning, and in the notes for the appointment, I mentioned that I really wanted THIS devices screen/glass replaced instead of getting a replacement device.

So now the question is this:  If they are not able to just install a replacement display - do I say nevermind and keep my broken display with the jailbreak still there?  Or do I chance it, and take the replacement device, and cross my fingers and hope that the replacement device is still on 9.0.2?

I would get it replaced if I was you, but more than likely, the replacement device will have a newer iOS version on it.

  13. Was unable to make outgoing phone calls after updating to beta 5 last night. Had to restore back to 9.2.1 to get it to come back. Betas never seem to work out good for me for some reason.

That's very odd. I have had no problems whatsoever.

  14. Now with the WiMAX shutdown in Nashville, I am guessing Sprint will need to reconfigure priority of band selection with the iPhone. In downtown Friday, my iPhone was parked on b26 but the speeds were poor. 0.13dn/0.40up.

Correct me if I am wrong but if one band is stressed with traffic, is the phone not able to search other bands for less congestion?

Yes but if Band 26 is the only band that your device is currently able to receive, then there is no other band for it to offload to.

  15. Thanks for the quick reply. Tech wise are they all the same, or what makes you say Nokia?

In the map the south looks to be Nokia. Your pictures mention Ericsson/Nokia. Does Sprint use just Nokia for LTE Band 41, or both of them in the south?

Nokia does the 8T8R equipment in Ericsson areas, and Ericsson does the NV (dual mode B25/B26) equipment.

  16. I've never seen reports of speeds that fast either. My fastest reported speed on LTE was a tick over 75, and that's nearly twice that! My fastest on WiFi was 199 down and 255 up (Google Fiber).

Sprints "LTE Plus" is capable of well over 100 mbps. 147 is near the upper limit of the capabilities of B41 2xCA.
