NR right now is operating in a mode called non standalone (NSA). LTE has to be the anchor band (primary carrier) and NR is aggregated. It uses the LTE core. For voice calls, it actually drops the NR carrier. Honestly I'm not sure what about those phones prevents them from being able to use B2 or B66 as an anchor other than software/certifications. I'm not aware of any technical limitation of the modem that would prevent it

    Fantastic explanation. Thanks!

The difference is sprint was doing n41 5G+ B41 LTE. TMO is doing B66 and or 2 LTE +n41 5G

Is it using both at once? Like carrier aggregation? B66/2 being used for download and upload (like primary carrier) and n41 only being used for download (like secondary carrier)? Again, apologies for the probably basic question lol.

  3. Wait, so what's the difference between T-Mobile's 2.5GHz 5G and Sprint's 2.5GHz 5G, that causes older 5G phones that could connect to Sprint's implementation to not be able to connect to T-Mobile's? I figured it would just be a PLMN change or something (if that's even a thing with 5G).

Apologies at my lack of understanding of 5G. It's been awhile since I've been active on the forum and I'm going off my previous LTE knowledge. Feel free to link something that may help me understand better 😅

Anyone get this app working on the new 13.5 jailbreak?  I installed it because I figured what the hell, might as well try.  Installs and shows the LTE band and GCI, but no RSRP or SNR info displays.

iOS 14 will probably make this app sightly less useful. They redesigned the Field Test screens to be much more useful and pleasing to look at.

  5. 12.4 beta 1 has been released today. Appears to be the last release of iOS 12 before 13 comes out, and will most likely be the super-polished version of iOS 12 that the devices that are having support dropped in iOS 13 will be stuck with.

I’ll ask the tread. I guess as band 26 is still being optimized could there be issues on the network? My data on the I phone xs max keeps timing out in the middle of loading stuff I’ll pull 80mbps and then next second it won’t work anymore and I have to toggle airplan mode for it to work again. I had this phone replace once already.

Most likely not your issue. If you are pulling 80 Mbps on speed tests then you are most definitely not connected to Band 26. Even if your phone switched to Band 26 during your data session, it shouldn't time out because it can continue the data session across different bands, unless there is some other issue present. Someone more knowledgeable about Band 26 tuning and such should be able to correct me if I'm wrong, but my guess is it's something else other than Band 26 needing to be tuned.

Calls to Verizon have been consistently very clear with VoLTE and VoWiFi. The only time I experienced any issues was when I was walking outside on a college campus and the call kept trying to hand off back and forth between weak WiFi and LTE. Even then the call never dropped completely. The person on the other end said that I would go in and out occasionally.

I'm coming to NYC next weekend for a concert with some friends and I'm really looking forward to experiencing the amazing network and VoLTE for the first time. Gonna be awesome!

T-Mobile data usage is being treated as native, meaning no caps. However while roaming, your device will always show roaming, it will never show another network besides Sprint as native (at least so long as the networks are separate companies).

Unless of course you are internationally roaming. My phone showed Telus when I was in Vancouver a few months ago and roaming via Global Roaming.

I don't believe that iOS 12.1 is all it takes, that is part of what is needed for phones other than the iPhone Xs and Xs Max. Those two model don't have iOS 12.1 and they can roam, if they have been updated.

iPhone Xs and Xs Max have 12.1. I’m running it currently on my Xs Max. It was only the first couple days that 12.1 beta 1 was out that there wasn’t an IPSW for the new phones.

I don't think there is a trade in on Series 3. They may continue to keep billing you for the Series 3 watch since you have it on IB, or they may accelerate it on the next bill for you to pay off.

Hmm interesting. I guess we’ll see what happens next bill!

  11. I have had my XS Max since yesterday around noon and can say that so far I haven't experienced any issues with WiFi or LTE connectivity. I have what appears to be the same or better LTE performance as compared to my X. Also, I bought mine from Apple and put my Sprint info in when I ordered it. All I did when I opened the box yesterday was remove the SIM from my X, turn it off, and then power on the XS Max. Activated during setup without any issues. Been loving it so far!

My Series 4 also just got here today. I had a Series 3 that I got back in June of this year on IB, and upgraded to the Series 4. Not sure how I was eligible, but when I was ordering the device I didn't see anything about getting a return kit with my new device to send the old one back. And when I go to Sprint's website I don't see anything about my Series 3 on it anymore now that I've activated my Series 4. I'm unsure when/if I can return the old device.

  12. Does the iPhone XS not come with a SIM in it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you be able to have a Sprint SIM in the device and use the eSIM for whatever other carrier you want? I might not understand how eSIM works but just curious.

Hopefully there’s a price drop this year as well for the iPhone X v2.

I have been seeing $699-$749 for the 6.1'' LCD iPhone, $899 for the 2018 iPhone X, and $999 for the 2018 iPhone X Plus. All rumors/speculation of course.

Well, I finally bought AirPods tonight. I’m so happy I bought them.

Welcome to the club! I've had mine for a year now and still use them every day! Even bought my Mother a pair for Mother's day because she loved mine so much.

You know what else works great? WiFi. It can do everything the MagicBox does today.

Nobody is questioning if the device works. I'm simply questioning its purpose. The box should have never been deployed for residential purposes. Retail? Sure. But giving these away to residential customers was just a waste of money and a fast way of getting your customers to abuse your network.

Just to chime in, I find the Magic Box very useful in my home because we have home internet that goes out at least once a week, and therefore need a backup plan for those times when the internet is out. It gives me reliable internet access when the home ISP goes down. Plus, when connected to a UPS, I also have usable internet for news and emergency updates in the event of a power outage, which happens often during storms. I go from being on 1 bar of B26 to 4 bars of B41, with the box being connected to a B41 site that I otherwise don't have access to in or around my home.

Also a small benefit is having full signal all the time without my device constantly switching between weak B26 and 3G. The battery life savings really add up. Plus being able to make VoLTE phone calls from my home when VoLTE is rolled out will be nice too. All of these are things that WiFi cannot do. Sure, a lot of these problems have solutions or workarounds, all of which require more time, effort and, more importantly, money, than a box that you simply connect to power and never touch again. It almost works like... magic?
