There must be a threshold value.  In Alexandria, some of the towers have it and others don't.  (I need to drive around and check on Old Town to see what's what there; haven't been in a while.)  Based one what I've seen, I'd say it's probably less than half, but they're pretty spread out, so I could see the argument.

In some smaller towns, there might only be one tower, so upgrading that one tower would get it listed.  Not sure if any of the places on the list fit that bill yet.

The first Missouri town (Jennings, which is part of St. Louis) showed up after one tower had an install. It's not like it's a small town either, there are dozens of sites.  I'm sure some parts of the country have had more of a head start before they were listed, but if the threshold is one tower for Missouri, I'm sure it is elsewhere.

My Note 8 phone just got a profile update this morning. Now all it does it lock on Band 2. When I have a Band 41 Tower right next to me.

I have a MB in the office and it doesn't hop on that now.

How can I change if it's possible?

Sounds like a lot of people getting pushed over to T-Mobile today. Might be able to get on support and get them to take ROAMAHOME off to let you back on Sprint. Trip had success with that, mileage will likely vary.

I am not terribly familiar with Reddit but I looked just now and didn't see any similar issues in the past few days so maybe it's just me?

I happened to be making my way down to the sticks today, and the service was as poor as I expected it to be on T-Mobile.  So along the way I tried to do SCRTN while "roaming" on Shentel (seriously, with the R and everything), and then when that didn't work, I went to a Sprint store and they swapped my SIM.  When it first came on, it connected to Band 25, but once the network configuration ended, it kicked me right back over to T-Mobile.

I'm trying to figure out how to get myself in touch with some advanced technical support type person to get it sorted out.

Sounds like you may have joined the ranks of the S20, A71, V60 and others that were pushed over to T-Mobile with a network profile update. No idea if there is anyway to roll it back. Didn't hear that the 8x was on it's way over to T-Mobile, so that's a little surprising.

Since this is the case, what happens when TMobile completely shuts the Sprint network.  Will all customers with Sprint phones have to get a new SIM to keep using their phone?

    Probably so.

I don't think so. Some, like the S20 series, A71 and the LG V60 should be able to just receive updates that make the T-Mobile network the home network. Others could require a new SIM, and even older devices may not be compatible at all.

    Maybe a dumb question
I upgraded to the Note 20 Ultra assuming that the antennas would be tmobile. The phone still shows "Sprint by Tmobile".
In the article it references million of Sprint customers needing to shift to T-Mobile 5G. Is the Note 20 Ultra future proof or am I still technically on Sprint's dying network and need to switch to a more compatible device in the near future?

The S20 Ultra is about as future proof as a device can be at the moment. It should be pretty much locked to T-Mobile. You'll be fine.

I see. I'll get pics of one's i think are N41. How was your trip?

The squarish antenna on the left is the T-Mobile N41 antenna that I'm pretty sure is being deployed in Denver.

I have seen the small square antenna on sprint sites, would that be on a t mo site too

Those are the B41 M-MIMO / 5G antennas Sprint was deploying on their sites. I've seen a few sprinkled around town, especially around down town (next to Mile High is the one I saw first). The T-Mobile N41 antennas are actually smaller than those.

I will have to check it out.  I've seen sites with a long skinny antenna next to two other's.  I'll to and get pics.  Wondering what the new 2.5 antenna look like. I did get an update on my phone for 5g nr. Oh wait or was out standalone? Long day yesterday.

The N41 antennas are small squares. There are few examples posted, but I'm not sure where at the moment. I'll link back to them if I come across them.

What market?  I'm in Colorado and I believe I've seen sites like that but don't think 2.5 is on.

I'm fairly certain I saw a T-Mobile site with the N41 antennas added near 6th and I-25. Unfortunately couldn't really stop to take a closer look. Still have a device locked to the Sprint network so couldn't tell what signal was there.

Samsung  phones are extremely widespread.  For others I am assuming it requires root access. But MSL =000000 and that's the simple key if you're on Samsung.  One of the many reasons I have always been with them.

The vast majority of people won't know that, they'll just know their network keeps getting worse as Sprint sites are taken offline, so I really hope the T-Mobile network team is taking that into account as they decommission sites. They're not really offering any good incentives for people to upgrade to new devices at the moment (that I'm aware of) so it's not going to go well if they start making the Sprint network worse before giving people a way to get on the T-Mobile network without scrapping their plans.

"set up"? are you saying that other phones that support the same bands as those can't be set up to run on T-Mo natively?

    5 hours ago, tommym65 said:

No, I'm not saying that. What I'm saying (and I'm no expert) is that Sprint/T-Mobile has provisioned these phones to run natively on the T-Mobile network (so they can use T-Mobile 5G), while all other Sprint phones are currently provisioned to run natively on the Sprint network. My Sprint-purchased A71 5G almost never connects to Sprint (even though it says it is a Sprint phone), it is virtually always on T-Mobile.

Tommy is correct, the listed phone are provisioned to run on T-Mobile only, and will "roam" on Sprint when there is no T-Mobile signal even though they were sold as Sprint phones. This has caused issues for some users where the T-Mobile network is decidedly worse capacity wise than Sprint since they haven't put B41 into use in many places yet.

For everyone else, you are limited to only roam on T-Mobile, so if they are decommissioning "redundant" Sprint sites that served as in-fill or capacity boosts for Sprint users, the experience for those of us still on Sprint only phones will have a much degraded network experience.

Not sure I follow you?    If the site is "redundant" meaning there is a T-Mobile site there too or very near by, why would it cause problems?   We will all be on one network soon, ... some sooner than others.

Unless you have a Samsung Galaxy S20(+, Ultra), Galaxy A71 or LG V60, you only get access to T-Mobile roaming. That means if there is even a hint of Sprint signal, you are stuck on that. So if several of the infill or capacity sites are decommissioned, suddenly you're stuck on crowded B26 or 3G instead of B41 or CA B25. Not good.

Just turn off Sprint bands on your phone.

Yeah... most of us can't do that easily.

Very Good point.  Somebody tell management to quit fooling around with the silly "perks' and silly discounts for only certain people.

This is costing a lot of money and gets next to no retained customers. I do not stay with a cell phone company for a "Popeyes" anything.  I and most other people want excellent service and none of the Tuesday Giveaways.   Spend all your cash on improvements to the network and stop all the playing around.  If you have to give away a Burger King sandwich to hold onto a customer, you must have a bad network.  Get a good network and you will not have to give away hamburgers.

    Wrong perks program.

This is akin to the Sprint Works program, where Sprint and your company have a bit of a deal that gets you a discount on your line. For example, I have a $5 discount for the time being thanks to the Sprint Works deal with my employer.

    Oh, yeah, I didn't mean coverage compared to what I have now, I mean T-Mobile 4g coverage vs T-Mobile 5g coverage. Is T-Mobile's 4g everywhere there is T-Mobile 5g?

Best I can tell, yes anywhere there is 5G, there is also 4G. Some areas the spectrum is split between 5G and 4G, no neither is extremely fast.
